I dunno, there's some matches in the tournament that shouldn't have been in it at all. There's some matches there deserve to be in the tournament, anywhere from Danielson vs. Aries, Joe vs Daniels vs Styles, Angle vs Joe, Awesome vs Tanaka, Lynn vs RVD, Richards vs Edwards, Joe vs Styles vs Danielson, Punk vs Hero, Punk vs Joe, Low Ki vs Daniels, Low KI vs Danielson, Briscoes vs MCMG etc etc. Instead we have final four from IYH

^^ Hmmmm, fair enough, we should have mentioned Joe vs Styles vs Daniels, heck we included Punk vs Rey vs Eddie as the only indie choice. But regardless of that, Bret/Austin would have still been the clear favorite.

Yeah, I agree. Bret vs Austin is an EPIC match. I still remember marking hard for that match as a kid. But some of the matches in this tournament are WEAK.

Granted we could have upped the technical merits of some matches in order to indulge some hipster dreams, but it's not as though it would have changed the result in any way.

To me the very best two matches are facing off in the finals. I like it, even though there probably won't be a ton of drama to it.

If Bret Austin beats Flair Steamboat and Owen Bret beats Steamboat Savage then run the winner of 3rd place run off against the loser of the final and then we can truly test if this semi final should have been the final. I really dont think Bret Austin stomping Bret Owen pretty easily is any measure of whether we got the correct final or not.

Edit, but tournament gonna tournament and it happens in Wimbledon or the World Cup where the so called true final is in the semis and they spend a lot of time and energy working out their seeding.

I mean it's not as though I need additional evidence that young people are young. Bret/Austin appears to be off to the races against Steamboat/Flair as well (I'm guessing many are having the foolish words "and it's not even close" in their mind), and I'm pretty sure it will win, but if the margin is at all similar to what this one was then I don't see what the functional difference would be between having had this be the final or having our current final be the final.

Im nearly 28 and watched neither match in their prime and in fact i never watched wrestling when Bret was wrestling. The only wrestlers of the five i have seen live are Austin, Flair and Steamboat and yet i prefer both Bret and Austin and Bret and Owen matches.

I really really dont think its anything to do with any kind of recency bias for most of the people voting.

It's not necessarily about having watched it at the time (though for some people it would be that); I think it's more about the fact that those matches are simply more relatable to today's style that we're all comfortable with.

I mean I don't want to come off like I'm ripping on either of these Bret Hart matches, because ****, they're both absolutely elite in the history of wrestling. It's not that I think that these are being overvalued in this tourney; I just can't shake the feeling that the Steamboat matches are being undervalued.
