Hey Phill, take your time -- I know what I'd take at our pick but I want to talk to TN a little more -- but I don't want to hold it up any, so if you'd be slow instead, that's great!

Ive not seen my first pick in a few months, my second pick ive not seen since 2009 but its one of my fave matches of all times, one of the few midcard PPV main events and a legit 5 star match and it was made under the watchful eye of that master booker Vince Russo.

Ive also DLed it to watch when i have time this weekend

My second round pick is:

Good pick, Phill, you can't really go wrong with Daniels vs Styles vs Joe. Its virtually the only thing that TNA can't screw up on in terms of match quality or booking.

Fine choice on the triple threat.

TN and I agonized on this one a bit, as there are a number of fine matches available, but in the end, this is the only one that would have really made me sad to see it go, and is probably the least replaceable of the bunch. It probably would have dropped, but you know what? Screw it. We both want it. Hate on it all you want.

Pick #20 (Round 2)

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Clearly the greatest Royal Rumble in history, and it's not even close. Heenan and Monsoon on commentary and a great crowd just add to the legendary atmosphere as the best Rumble lineup ever (and again, it's not even close) competes for the actual WWF title (and not just a paltry Wrestlemania title shot). As a bonus, we get a legendary Flair promo as part of the package:

We basically lose longer Flair matches as a part of this (he went 59:26 according to Wiki), but everyone else is under 30 minutes except undrafted wrestler who I doubt ever had a 40 minute match in his life -- and anyway, what better way to use Flair than in what even he said was the greatest moment of his life?

Our card:
Spoiler:
IC Title: Ultimate Warrior def. Honky Tonk Man (Summerslam 1988): 00:31
WWF Title: 1992 Royal Rumble 1:02:02

Great pick by Phill, that is the other main match that I have shown to non wrestling fans in the past. Although it was on my radar I was debating whether to pick it or not as it would block other picks so I'm glad Phill has made the decision easy for me.

im shocked 92 rr even got drafted. seems like a really bad pick but id have to look at the participants (and their time in ring) to be sure. still, you're basically guaranteed to lose flair.

edit: for some reason i thought the double-duty time limit was 60 minutes, not 75. that helps a bit and you could use everyone except flair, i'm guessing. not as bad as i thought.

The two picks synergise really well ldo, but damn if it cant have been hard using up just shy of half your time on one match.

Wow such a sick first two picks. 92 Rumble and Honky Tonk Man/Warrior go perfect together with the time limit rule.

I like it, although yes I have to think it would have fallen since you two are the only ones who basically used no time at all in the first round.

Your vision seems like a solid one...and I could listen to Flair's "With a tear in my eye" promo a million times.

I assume you missed the end of Rule 5:

Quote:
Slight exception to this rule: you can have a worker pull double duty in a battle royale (including the Royal Rumble) and another match, as long as their total in-ring time between the two does not exceed 75 minutes.
So no, we don't lose everyone. A few people will obviously pull double duty, and as noted in our writeup, nobody except Flair and lol Piper went over 30:00 in the Rumble.

I gotta admit, it hurt a lot, but I took 10 YES's and it got better.

I've always wanted to see someone win the main event of the WSOP and when Norman Chad is interviewing them, the person just cuts that Flair promo. It would be pretty much the greatest thing ever.

yeah i didnt realize it was 75. looks like savage and BB lasted a bit but their times in the ring shouldnt be prohibitive for your future picks. and as others have said, a fine pairing with your first rounder.

Yeah, the blocking aspect of it is something i was weighing up, but most good Joe matches are uber long, Daniels i lose a few matches that i would have considered but i can draft similar matches in similar quality for decent like for likes if i decide to go that way (obv cant go into details, lol) and AJ is the biggest block loss but one i can accept given i have him going over at possibly the peak of his career (which is more about how bad TNA booking got tbh) winning in the best match he has ever done in the best X Div match ever done.

RR1992 was one of a few matches I was considering for my third round choice, I think it would have fit very well with my first two selections. I think it's a great pick.

Yeah tbh if it passed to me I probably wouldn't have been able to not pick it but it would have been hard because there is another match that I really like and I can't have both. Now I don't have to make that decision and both matches will get some exposure in this thread.

Most people would be better if they only spoke Flair promos.

Im really curious to see where you go tbh. I think there are lots of directions you can go including some decent semi face melters too that would have been blocked by that match so its going to be a nice surprise for later.
