Amazingly awful. Amazingly embarrassing. DX and Jason Sensation parodying Nation of Domination was better than that monstrosity that WCW put on.

Nash absolutely kills it in that promo, they got such great heel heat.

Contrary to popular belief, Nash has actually never cut a particularly good promo in his life.

LOOK AT THE ADJECTIVE: PLAY.

CARD WRITE-UP - LKJFEST I

Here is your link if you'd like to watch an epic card and enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...eature=mh_lolz

OPENING CONTEST: THE ROCKERS VS. THE ORIENT EXPRESS

Gorilla and Piper are as amazed on the call as we are in the PPV audience. Non-stop action, great chemistry between teams that had worked together in the AWA...this was revolutionary in a WWF that just didn't have a ton of flying teams.

Relax and enjoy a great start...and when Roddy says, "AND THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST MATCH?!?," smile knowing that the card is going to get better.

PROMO: CHRIS BENOIT JOINS THE FOUR HORSEMEN

I said previously that I'd put this on after his match, but I think that lessens the impact of the match. Benoit was very new to WCW when he got his awesome promotion, and a lot of fans still weren't that familiar yet. I think that having this intro really adds something to his match later in the card since, with all due respect to the great Eddy Guerrero, it was an absolute Benoit showcase.

BRET HART VS. MR. PERFECT

We go from two teams flying around to a more grounded match, one of the finest technical mat wrestling displays ever put on by the WWF. In the first match we saw future legend Shawn Michaels before his prime; in this match we see fellow legends Bret Hart and Curt Hennig starting to hit theirs.

Macho Man excuses himself after this match to go get ready, because he's got a match later.

WCW TAG TEAM TITLES: STEINER BROTHERS VS. STING/LEX LUGER

I very deliberately went for scarcity when it comes to title matches on my card. Unlike today's WWE, I want title matches to be a big ****ing deal. This is one of the finest tag matches that WCW ever put on, and pits one of the greatest teams of all time against two of the great singles competitors in WCW/NWA lore.

CHRIS BENOIT VS. EDDY GUERRERO

"Who the **** is this young kid that the Horsemen just gave a membership to?!?

...

Oh...my...God. He's amazing."

That's the story this match tells on my card.

PROMO: CHRIS JERICHO MOCKS DEAN MALENKO

We already had a lot of great action of varying types; now we add some comic relief from one of the funniest heels ever.

Jericho heads to the ring, tearing up an adoring fan's sign along the way, and then cuts a great heel promo on Dean Malenko, leading to...

CHRIS JERICHO VS. BORE-US MALENKO

Watching Jericho pull Bore-us on top of him slays me no matter how many times I see it. I love the way Schiavone really sounds genuinely disgusted about this whole thing.

CACTUS JACK VS. PAUL ORNDORFF - FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE

On his way to big things, Cactus Jack is getting over huge and carries this match to greatness. The crowd loves the hardcore brawl I've added to the mix.

MAIN EVENT #1 - NWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE - RIC FLAIR VS. RICKY STEAMBOAT

Two of the greatest of all time show how it's done. This has rarely been matched...and when it has been, it was just by these two again.

POST-MATCH PROMO: RICKY STEAMBOAT, NEW NWA CHAMPION

Steamboat wasn't a master of the mic, but his emotion sold this moment wonderfully back in the locker room. Great feel-good moment.

SEGMENT: RECALL OF SAVAGE BEING SNAKEBITTEN

One of the more shocking segments I remember seeing as a kid. This is disturbing.

PRE-MATCH PROMOS: JAKE "THE SNAKE" ROBERTS AND "MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE

Two of the best to ever rock a mic doing their thing. To think, this wasn't even going to be the best mic work relating to this matchup...

JAKE "THE SNAKE" ROBERTS VS. "MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE

Nice little brawl - I like Savage rage-attacking Jake from behind - but kept short so we could get to the good stuff.

AFTERMATH AND PROMO: JAKE/SAVAGE

Savage gets incapacitated. Liz gets slapped. Jake cuts the creepiest heel promo I've ever heard in my life.

JUVENTUD GUERRERA, LIZMARK JR. AND HECTOR GARZA VS. LA PARKA, PSICOSIS AND VILIANO IV

Luchadores jumping around and doing awesome high spots is my way of getting a crowd back up for the big main event after Jake just shocked the **** out of them the match before.

Unfortunately no YouTube for this, so please go to these links and enjoy just how awesome this match is.

MAIN EVENT #2 - WWF/INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE - HULK HOGAN VS. THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR

The crowd, already loving this card, goes absolutely bonkers as two of the biggest stars of all time put the cap on this show. Hogan jobs cleanly in the middle of the ring, hands the belt over in a rare act of class (yes, rare even in kayfabe), and the torch is passed to a younger superstar. Okay, so Warrior didn't run with the ball as effectively as hoped, but that doesn't diminish this moment at all.

I think the luchadore match should open not be soo high on the card

It's a tactical placement. You can't just go from Jake Roberts hitting a woman into the main event. You need a happy pick-me-up for the crowd. Cactus-Orndorff is too dark for that. Bret-Perfect has to go early for continuity reasons with Savage commentating on that match. You simply have to put a midcard match there in order to transition from Jake/Savage into the main event. It's a double main event card, and it's more respectful to Flair/Steamboat to give it its own placement in the middle and then have clearly inferior stuff going after it before Hogan/Warrior begins than to just place it second-to-last. It's not as though I'm coming even close to calling that six-man tag one of the best matches of the card.

That's just applying the same concept but putting a match that has a bunch of commentary references to being the curtain-jerker late instead for no good reason.

I'm surprised more matches from Smackdown 2002-2004 weren't drafted.

I remember watching when the core group of guys were Angle, Benoit, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Brock Lesnar, Eddy Guerrero. You had the great tag team matches with Los Guerreros, Rey/Edge, Angle/Benoit. You had the cruiserweight division and all the great talent. Lesnar was always solid for a great match.

My 10th and 11th pick:

This first part of this was a really innovative face promo at the time setting up an innovative way to decide a title. It won't seem as such now because it's been imitated sense, and you will likely be able to see what I'm talking about if you watch it. Highly effective booking.

After everyone finishes drafting we should all pick our top 3 favorite cards, not including our own.

I'm done; that's enough promos setting up future angles. The recipe for promotion success is, in my view, combining a variety of components: drawing power matches, some great technical matches, some great spectacles, good promos that build storylines making people want to stay tuned to see how they play out.

I suppose the order would look something like:

Toyota vs. Kong
Rage in a Cage
Magnum TA anti-authority face promo and Nikita response to Magnum being stripped
Freebirds vs. Von Erichs
Mauler vs. Doll interrupted by Hall
Angle vs. HBK
Dusty Rhodes promo on Road Warriors injuring his eye
Austin vs. Rock
Flair vs. Steamboat
Hogan vs. Andre

lkj,

Your match order is odd. I can see why you put it that way as i assume you are worried about the co-main overshadowing the main but id have had Flair Steamboat much later, perhaps even after Hogan Warrior, at least taking the spot the luchas have before it to rebuild the crowd after the promo and just not caring that it overshadows it.

Ok, mark me down as done. I was gonna try and find a good 5 minute match to open my card but I've had a lot of other stuff on so haven't been able to. I basically have a card of main events but that's fine. I'll try and give a final write up in the next few days about my tactics for both this and the other match draft, as well as my favourite cards.

I think putting Hogan/Warrior last works best for a couple of reasons...
1. Without question, it's the more climactic way to end my card for the casual fan (and even a decent number of the smarks who are left going "OMG Hogan just got pinned clean).
2. Steamboat/Flair has that locker room celebration and post-match promo by Steamboat that doesn't seem to end a show nearly as well as Hogan/Warrior's "blow the roof off the place, and then fade to black on Warrior's celebration music" moment.

As for not putting it right before, you guessed correctly that I thought it would overshadow it to not let it have its own spotlight and then just have Hogan/Warrior seem bigger right after.

Anyway, there are only two matches in between Flair/Steamboat and Hogan/Warrior, so it's not as though I had it really early on the card. I had to split Bret/Perfect and Jake/Savage apart because of Savage doing commentary on Bret/Perfect, and I didn't feel like I could lead into the world title match on Jake's evil heel notes, so I put it after and then did the pick-me-up. Those two being forced apart messed with my order a little bit, but I'm happy with the order I took.

I agree with this, though I've sure got some watching to do on some cards in order to be able to cast fair votes.

Sorry I didn't pick yesterday. I was on a train all day and had no internet access. The last thing I'm taking is the Backlash 2000 introduction.

This is far from the best video package the WWF ever did, but it's nice to have the intro that was used for my main event.

To add an interesting little fact, Backlash 2000 earned the WWF/E its highest ever buyrate for a secondary PPV. In fact, only WrestleMania outsold Backlash in 2000.

I was 16 then, we just didnt have Sky TV and for a brief amount of time WWF was shown on Channel 4 really late at night.

I probably watched for like 6 months, then they lost whatever deal they had and didnt watch again till 2004ish.
