Texas death match: WCW World Heavyweight Champion Vader vs. Cactus Jack, Halloween Havoc 93

Forget wrestling for now, let's see some brutality.

This match came about as a result of Vader powerbombing Cactus on the concrete in a match earlier in the year and nearly ending his career. Jack came back for revenge, and the two were signed to a "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal" match at Halloween Havoc, after an awful angle I won't even mention here went over like a fart in church. WCW had the good sense to gimmick the wheel this time around, following the UNDRAFTED HORRIBLE MATCH NO ONE SHOULD EVER TRY TO WATCH fiasco from the previous year.

In watching the match, I was reminded this match was, in fact, not for Vader's title -- Cactus didn't care about winning the title, he just wanted to hurt Vader, and Vader wanted to hurt Cactus. And boy, did they ever. This was a wild match that went all over the arena. Both men bled (like you'd expect anything else from Foley). An intense, brutal brawl.

With such a variety of kinds of stuff being picked, only 3/18 matches that have been selected since my last pick were even on my radar yet.

That Jake Roberts promo is extremely sick in multiple senses of the word. Especially with Vince Mcmahon's comment that it is hard to distinguish between Jake Roberts the wrestler and Jake Roberts the man fresh in my mind.

TN's writeup got me to read up more on that UNDRAFTED first ever spin the wheel match. Apparently Halloween Havoc '92 was one of WCWs biggest buyrate PPVs EVER. So, you have an awful promo buildup for that terrible match + Barbarian in the world title match, and it's one of your biggest buys ever?

I just don't get people sometimes...

Shawn Michaels vs Shelton Benjamin (11:43)

Ok so here's the longer write-up for both matches. First Malenko/Jericho. I wanted to add a cruseweight match to my card but one with a really good storyline. This was imo one of the top 5 best storylines WCW ever did. The wrestling in the match is awesome, and I'm not sure if I get undrafted promo, but either way that promo showed just how amazing Jericho was. Also Malenko gets one of the biggest pops I've ever heard, which shows just how great Jericho was, that he was able to get someone like Malenko that over.



As for Goldberg/Hogan, call it nostalgia, but that match was one of my favorite moments ever as a wrestling fan. I was born in 1991 so I didn't get to experience Hogan/Andre so in a way Goldberg/Hogan was my Hogan/Andre. It was at a time when I still thought wrestling was real, I was a huge Goldberg fan because he was simple and really easy to like. I hated Hogan so much I wanted to see nothing more than for him to lose the belt. That ending sequence of Karl Malone giving Mr. Perfect the diamond cutter and Goldberg spearing Hogan and then jackknifing him for the pin was so an awesome finish. The only thing that's going to be hard is not having this match on last but w/e it's such a great moment that I really wanted it.

Just catching up on some vids.

HBK vs Shelton was ****ing awesome. I think you could have easily waited a long time to draft it as its pretty obscure and it being in the middle of some random tournament might make people devalue it a little, but that was completely A+ and im glad i got to see it for the first time.
