I don't care how good Overeem looks against Brock. I ain't ever betting against JDS. He sliced through Velasquez and Carwin like cheese. Dude is a BEAST.
Bigger glove sizes in K1 Grand Prix is pretty huge for both not being able to hit as hard, and also Overeem used the big gloves for defense.
umm, Dana seems to think that hitting with bigger gloves = more power.
it's debatable either way on that point but it's certainly not a huge difference.
the defense is irrelevant since we're talking about clean shots to the chin, which he took. NOT TO MENTION THE LEG KICKS/KNEES THAT ARE MORE POWERFUL ANYWAY!!!

I don't think the fight vs brock means anything. it's his wins in k1 that leads me to believe he is the best at stand up.
everyone thinks dos santos is so great but outside of carwin and velasquez who has he really beat? he isn't some unstoppable force like gsp, anderson silva, jon jones, jose aldo who have dominated most of the top fighters in their weight class and you would expect to be the favorite vs anyone.
Agreed, the guy hasn't beaten anybody except two of the top 5 heavyweights in the world.
he caught velasquez with a lucky punch than messed up his balance not unlike how gsp lost to matt serra then he beat a injury ridden shane carwin who hasn't won a fight in almost two years...
i think his striking is very good but i'm not convinced he is everything people say he is.

Let's take a look at his last few fights. Dos Santos has beaten Velasquez, Carwin, Roy Nelson, Gonzaga, Mirko Crocop, Werdum. That's a pretty impressive resume right there. Dude has proven himself, gtfo.

this
don't get me wrong, that was a damn good punch, but most of the heavyweights can halfway-KO a guy with a single punch. there's nothing i saw in those 50 seconds, or the carwin fight, that suggests JDS can stay atop as champion for very long. granted, that's not to say he can't, but saying "well he beat velasquez and carwin" surprisingly somehow isn't as impressive as it should be
that carwin fight was ****ing abysmal btw. carwin looked far worse as a result of that fight than JDS looked good for it. dude cannot survive any fight that lasts longer than 2 minutes without being completely gassed

If JDS beats Overeem then he will run through Mir, and will have effectively cleaned out the division.
wait? what? because he can beat overeem he can beat mir? uh no not exactly. mir and overeem with both give him problems but in completely different ways.

gonzaga, crocop, werdum and nelson maybe be names in mma but none of them are on the elite tier at this point. these guys would be lucky to even win enough fights to get a title shot.
meh. heavyweight division has the most parity out of any division. dos santos probably loses to overeem, overeem probably loses to mir, mir probably loses to velasquez and round and round we go. the last 13 heavyweight championship fights, the champ is 5-8 and the last 4 title fights there's been a new champion. it's practically impossible to dominate that division
I dont think Overeem loses to Mir. Watch Mirs last few fights, he gets way to comfortable standing/in the clinch and gets hammered. He'll try to trade with Overeem and get smoked most likely, not sure what his takedowns are like but I can't recall a memorable shot.
mir is wayyyy too smart of a fighter to trade punches with overeem. only way he wins is takedown ----> submit, which he's more than capable of doing
he is? don't get me wrong his jitz is sick but i don't think he is capable of overpowering overeem like he did nog. i would also like to see him put reem on his back because i doubt he is capable. the guy to beat reem was brock or maybe carwin. guys who can take him down and pound on him and aren't going to be overpowered.

His fight vs Carwin says otherwise, for someone reason he had no sense of urgency when he was backed up to the fence while in the clinch. We all know what happened next. He'll trade with Overeem for at least a little while, he has to anyway to set up a TD.
I hate when people talk in absolutes in MMA, but if Brock isn't taking down Alistair and Werdum couldn't sub him in the moments they were on the ground, then Mir is not doing either.
