Some of these TLF Japan shows had some interesting/funny stuff, but my heart has increasingly dropped when I've found that they've dropped yet another one, as they just sort of stumbled their way into a journey that they didn't map out and just kept looking to extend the series. After the Kitao/Earthquake show, which did interest me, I was ready for that to be the last of it.

I'm glad that this week they're going to drop a Diesel 1995 show.

Like you I was ready for it to end a bit ago. The series did give us Savage locking Liz in the basement from Japan which was an amazing bit but . Ready for some Sid/Nash lampooning.

STWW's Earthquake episode this week was top notch.

TLF gonna do a War Games journey. Hadn't occurred to me that they've never done a PPV with a War Games match, but I don't think they have.

Honestly I think I prefer when they randomly jump around from PPV to PPV and leave us no idea what's coming from week to week, but as journeys of uncovered material go this is a pretty solid choice.

When I saw there was a journey announcement I was very skeptical because I just want lapsed stuff but very pleased w/War Games. I rented GAB 87 ~100 times when I was younger so that'll be a nice one to hear. Funny enough they'll start with a Meltzer 5* match (GAB 87) and end with a Meltzer -5* match (War Games on Nitro in 2000). Should be fun.

Yeah, historically I was slow to warm to War Games because I jumped in at 1995 - a terrible Hogan and friends vs. DoD match - and just watched those going forward. I don't think there was ever a good one when just going forward from 1995. I eventually back-filled my knowledge of the prior ones and understood why the match is so revered. The early ones are great.

I do wonder if War Games '95 is the one time that Hulk Hogan ever won a match by submission.

I don't remember much about any other ppv besides the 87 one but that one had some not great but really fun NWA matches on it. I vividly remember a Tully vs. Dusty barbwire ladder match. Flair in a cage match against I think Ronnie Garvin which I'm sure JP will have a ball with. The rental version also had two different Wargames matches.

edits: pretty sure it was Jimmy Garvin now that I think about it because I remember Precious involved

I see that the TLF guys are still doing the thing where they pretend they don’t care about people taking shots at them for over-laughing at their own jokes, followed not long after by them raging about those complaints they get about it.

It’s almost as though talking about something frequently is a reliable tell that you do care.

My one dislike from that episode was the obsession over VHS and how you aren't able to walk through video stores now. Not everything used to be better.

I share their nostalgia on the VHS rental thing, but I agree that it's not something that was objectively better.

I've been doing a wrestling podcast every Thursday night at 8:30pm. It's live, people can ask questions on Youtube or FB. Anyway I just had Koko B. Ware on 2 weeks ago, that was fun.

What is the GTO strategy for listening to the lapsed fan podcast? Do you watch the show first, then listen to them talk about it? Do you listen to them talk about it, then watch the show and look for the things that they talked about? Or do you just listen to the podcast and not watch the shows?

If I know the show well enough I just listen. Otherwise I'd say watch the show in advance if you haven't. I try listening to episodes where I'm not familiar with the underlying PPV, and they just don't interest me near as much.

Man...for someone who has listened to TLF for years, this is gold:

That's good stuff.

Other news: This latest episode of TLF (Exposed) is really bad to me. Sometimes the laughing becomes too much. And the Coliseum Collection is garbage so far. Stopped giving on patreon after years of doing so.

BatB 2000 way overdelivered. CHARACTER.

The laughing frequently gets to be too much. And then sometimes they talk at length about how much they don't care about the criticism they get for it. Which they wouldn't do if they actually didn't care. (I haven't gotten too far into the newest episode, so I don't know if it annoyed me there yet.)

Coliseum Collection usually consists of the weaker episodes, but I can't fault them for adding that project as part of their overall offering. With the insane amount of work they crank out, these coliseum videos are shows where they really don't have to do much deep research for; I'm guessing the prep time is considerably less and it frees up some of their hours. They only rarely give themselves weeks off without releasing an episode at all, so putting in the easier episodes gives them a bit of a break (I think).

By the way, I was musing to myself earlier about which of the lapsed characters is the most accurate voice imitation. I tend to think it's Nash. Vince and Lanny are up there though.

I think Dusty and Jack's Austin are pretty good.

But Andre is by far my favorite. You know it's gonna be hilarious when Lapsed Andre shows up.

I've enjoyed Lapsed Andre at times, the bit is definitely funny, but it's pretty one-note.

The worst by a lot is Lapsed Helen.
