Yes. I wasn't paying super close attention to the run-up to that part, but once Jack started quoting snippets that JP would scoff at, I wasn't hearing anything too crazy.

I think it was more the surprise of it being in the contract rather than it being enforced. I'm certainly surprised such a thing is put in contracts so I just imagine his reaction was the same.

Ah, well maybe your interpretation is right.

Triggers bad memories of the Vikings stealing Steve Hutchinson from the Seahawks in 2006. The Seahawks had put the transition tag on Hutch, which meant they could match any offer. The Vikings signed him to a contract with a huge maximum upside that he would never reach, but included a clause saying that if he played X number of games in the state of Washington in a season, the entire contract would become guaranteed. Basically the Vikings would owe a fraction of what the contract's total stated amount was and the Seahawks would owe some ridiculous unaffordable sum by virtue of playing in Seattle if they matched. The damn thing held up on legal challenge too.

I read that like 3 times and didn't understand. I skimmed this article but understand nothing. Sounds intriguing so will definitely read after RR.

Key snippet from that link:

Quote:
Guaranteeing that much would break new ground -- the deal would have been the largest guarantee for a player in NFL history. Peyton Manning received a $34.5 million signing bonus when he signed with the Colts a couple of years ago.
The blatantly unfair clause would have forced the Seahawks to pay the dude more than Peyton Manning money. Just utter silliness that this was held to be enforceable in arbitration.

The last minute of today's TLF was just yikes. Somehow I have a feeling next week's show will be very dark.

This seemed bat**** insane to me when you posted it, but while I still wouldn't call him top three, Lapsed Fritz has turned into a really great character. Much better than I originally thought.

The report of Kevin attempting to kick Fritz in the balls was one of the best things ever.

Interesting stuff here for those of us following the current TLF journey (there may only be two of us, but what the hell):

It should be said that although Bret can be a very negative guy, his "tell it like it is" shtick also includes positive words about people. I always remember being struck by how well he spoke of Lex Luger in his book, given how many are negative on Luger.

I'll always listen to TLF stuff but I'm ready for the WCCW stuff to be over. I usually relisten to the latest episodes but I've been listening to Bryan Alvarez and Vinny's retro Nitro/RAW podcasts instead. Have listened from Wrestlemania 14 to first week of November 98 in the past week or so.

My takeaway from that clip is that Kerry didn't get as ****ed up when not around his dad.

Ready for it to be over too, but I'm enjoying it more today than I was when the first few episodes dropped.

Still, as someone who loves kids in the abstract but gets tired of them extremely quickly, I have a lot of love for celebs who have that much love and patience for kids. Stark difference between that clip and the time that Bret described Ultimate Warrior snubbing a Make-a-Wish kid who sat waiting on him for hours backstage and was promised the chance to see him.

Just to be Negative Nancy, I'm pretty sure this last episode's one of the bottom 10 eps ever. It may have not actually been that bad but I'm so done with this WCCW stuff that it made it much worse. Only two more eps...

It's finally over. I suppose no new episodes until a week or two after Mania

I ended up relistening to the AWA series 5-10 times. I went into that very pessimistic but loved it. I went into this one optimistic because of that. Disappointment.

I've only gotten started on part one of the postscript, and I agree that the journey in general was not their strongest stuff, but I'm still glad that I've taken the time to listen to it.

*** Normal disclosure about how it’s Bruce Prichard, so take it for what it’s worth***

I was getting caught up on podcasts yesterday and I was listening to Bruce Prichard’s podcast and they did Wrestlemania X. Bruce potentially answered one of my question I had about that show since the first time I watched it. When I did the write up, I asked the question about how it was possible for Shawn/Razor to get the blame for going over and causing the 10 man tag to get cancelled. Bruce actually had mentioned that the Bret/Owen March and the Savage/Crush match both went long and he was trying to get that time back for the rest of the night. Others went long too and eventually he had to cut the tag match. Again, take it for what it’s worth, but to me, that makes a lot more sense than just blaming Shawn/Razor.

I had heard this story previously of Savage getting in Hall's face about that ladder match going long, but Hall seems to corroborate it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LV0cNWRcCM

Obviously there's no way of knowing to any certainty, but if Savage was among the blameworthy parties I would expect Hall's reaction to be one of pointing the finger back rather than one of "LOL, oh wellz."

Wrestlemania 19:
JP: You know the difference between HHH and Ric Flair? Ric Flair was a good looking man. HHH is ugly as ****.

LOL

Ric Flair 20 years older than HHH still looks better...

Iso or anyone else who might pay the $10+ per month to TLF:

Are you listening to the weekend TLF stuff? If so, has it been good? I'm a $3.16 contributor, and I rarely care about accessing their Patreon stuff immediately, but I'm willing to consider bumping my pledge to access the Mania stuff immediately if it's worth it.

What are they offering in the $10 tier?

Well everyone who contributes at least $1 can access all of their exclusive stuff eventually, it just gets staggered where, for instance, as a $3.16 subscriber I get it three days after they post it for the $10 people. I've never cared enough to listen to their live calls of ongoing PPVs on Sunday nights during shows (though they do them during every new PPV), but they're in person at Mania this weekend and have been promising to post a ****-ton of stuff throughout the weekend.

The descriptions of what's being posted are unfortunately very vague: "TLF Manes Weekend 1," "TLF Manes Weekend 2," etc., so I don't know what all they're doing.

I don't contribute any longer. I'm curious what they have as well. I thought about getting it simply for the WM calls because I can't fathom actually watching the whole show tomorrow. There are about 4 matches I want to see and I don't want to be bored to death before getting there.

Yeah, when I first saw what he looked like I definitely wasn't expecting JP to be so big considering his obsession with mocking fat wrestlers.

He apparently had a scene on Orange is the New Black at some point. I haven't watched that show beyond the pilot, which didn't successfully grab me.
