Not gonna lie: when I made this post, I didn't foresee our next step this season being "become bowl eligible before USC and Oregon do."

+1 to The Fan.

Seems unlikely I'll get to The Fan, but who knows. Premise seems semi-interesting, but IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes both give it really bad marks. And while I do love De Niro, he's not exactly at a Daniel Day-Lewis level of selectivity. Dude is more than willing to play in some bad stuff in order to cash in. Not that I blame him.

I'll also admit to a bit of bias since it's essentially about Barry Bonds

I'll watch it if they do a remake about Edgar Martinez.

I eventually got around to watching Gravity this weekend and it's probably the most overrated movie in the past 10 years or so. It seemed like everyone loved it and praised it as something amazing but I came off feeling very underwhelmed. It's visually amazing but it's narrative is ridiculous and I'm probably too much of a nerd to ignore that the majority of it is scientifically impossible. George Clooney acting like George Clooney while flying around on some sort of space jetpack killed it early for me. Maybe I read it wrong or misheard but I thought there was supposed to be some legitimacy to it before going in but nope.

Gravity seems to lose most of its impact when you take it out of the theater setting.

I very rarely enjoy movies that get bad marks from those sources, but I really enjoyed the Fan. I really like baseball though.

On a similar note, I never thought when I was talking about Navy football in here I thought they'd now have a legitimate chance at a New Year's bowl.

Pretty pumped because I'm going to the game next week where Keenan Reynolds has another chance to beat the all-time rushing TD record (tied now) and also bought tickets for the bowl game in Annapolis, assuming they don't make a big bowl game. If they do then I hope to someway get to Atlanta or AZ for New Year's.

I crapped out on a number of sporting events the last couple years and missed out on some pretty special things - to me - like the Caps Winter Classic victory and the Orioles in the playoffs. Trying to make up for it with this Navy run.

As an Army grad, I can't begin to explain how jealous I am of the program Navy has put together over the last decade. Army-Navy was the GOAT in the 90s but I can't even get excited about it any more (especially seeing it live in 2012 and having my heart ripped out). Still, I'd love to see Navy in a Big 6 Bowl (so long as it isn't a rematch with ND)

I remember watching some pretty bad Navy teams as a kid, so I feel you. I do hope Army does get better too. I thought Air Force was going to pull away from the military pack after winning the commander-in-chief last year, but they lost their stud QB and their new one is not very good.

I too was wondering if we'll get a rematch of Navy and ND. The only thing that would be cool is for Navy to get a chance to beat the only team that beat them but I think the ratings would be down for a rematch. ND could be on to bigger or better things if a couple of the top 4 slip up down the stretch though, which also helps Navy in the rankings. However, Navy's actual rank won't be as important as winning out from here. Still unbelievable cool seeing them in the national rankings.

I remember that feeling. In 1996 Army went unbeaten and was ranked heading into the next to last game of the year. Lost to Donovan McNab and Syracuse, but had the GOAT comeback against Navy to win (we were 18 points down). In the Independence Bowl, we had Auburn on the ropes, but inexplicably tried to kick a game tying 25 yard FG on 3rd down with 15 seconds left instead of taking a shot at the endzone. Lol kicker of course and Auburn wins. Still, a magical season I've longed to see repeated for almost 20 years.

I don't understand why everyone in SE thinks it's so damn hilarious to say "CUTLAAAAAH" or other variations when QBs throw picks. It's super weird to me that that meme has so much lasting power.

I've often had similar high hopes for Navy. A few years ago they opened the season against MD and had a favorable schedule past that. Navy fumbled the ball I believe four times within the 5 yards on the end zone that day. Put a damper on things early that year. I know the goal is a bowl game every year for a team like Navy, but they've been on the brink for a few years of getting national attention as a good team. They play SMU at home next week. SMU is pretty bad but it seems traditionally to be a trap game for teams tasting a bit of national success for the first time. Plus they play Houston the following week. Hopefully Navy wins by 40 and nobody gets hurt en route to that undefeated Houston team.

Most years SMU is never this bad. That should not be much of a trap game at all.

Yeah, they lost to my wife's alma mater, JMU. I guess I just expect the worst with the teams I root for. (Orioles, Capitals, Redskins, etc). It's not a hockey season until Capitals have lost a game 7.

Liked Interstellar a lot. Certainly worth the lengthy runtime to give it a watch.

Easily my best IMAX-viewing decision ever made

Loved Grand Budapest Hotel. I'm not always huge on Wes Anderson's style, but I'm pretty sure that movie is the best I've seen from him. Ralph Fiennes was excellent.

I wake up and I get to see a video of The Undertaker giving a tombstone to Brad Maddox dressed up like a turkey on late night television. What a time to be alive.
