Well, he hadn't been buried by jobbing out to a t-shirt yet

Honestly that t-shirt promo is probably the reason that I think of him as an idiot, when of course that could happen to anyone of any intelligence.

Almost wanted to give this it's own thread... but this is incredible:

I saw this video linked on another site. It's from the Donahue show back in 1992. It may have been featured somewhere on here before, but I didn't know it existed.

It features....

- Vince answering questions about steroid abuse and homosexual sexual harassment.
- Randy Orton's uncle.
- Superstar Billy Graham accusing Pat Patterson of molestation and Hulk Hogan of steroid abuse.
- A crowd that laughs at homosexuality and pedophilia.
- Bruno Sammartino calling out Vince, his father, and a mark in the audience.
- A young Dave Meltzer and his mullet.

No royal rumble pool this year?

Was coming here to ask. If there is a Rumble Pool I'm in.

We need someone to run it. I asked in the smackdown thread. I can’t because I’m not in the US so there would be fees involved in most of the transfers.

Already pm'ed punker like yesterday or so, nothing yet

So does anybody want to organize the pool? Punker would do it if asked but not overly excited about it. I would do it, but not in the right location

Redirk has kindly offered his services to run a Rumble pool. Going to spam this in the major threads in case thread subscribers wouldn't see it otherwise.

So lot's of talk around about pyro and everyone missing it which is nice to see, What do you think of a Wrestlemania without pyro? WOAT?

I haven't seen WM 1 or 2 but I'm going to just say that those will always be the worst visuals for WM.

If there isn't any pyro...does this mean that HHH doesn't get a special entrance? Chances HHH gets a special entrance no matter what? 100%? higher?

Visuals of 2 weren’t yet good, but were already significantly improved over 1.

My rant has nothing to do with Hogan but just an observation I made.

Beginning-0:56 = The opening of RAW. I can't believe we used to get that and now we get, "Ladies and gentleman, The Chief Brand *****, Stephanie McMahon" from whoever the ring announcer is. Where's that passion from the fans? Oh right, "we have enough Daniel Bryan signs". This was pretty depressing to watch tbh.

I don’t know about that, I’ll counter with this:

I think we all were in agreement last year that this was the perfect opening.

idk if countering with a reaction that happens once a year is a good counter . Check out other 02 openings and you'll see the same enthusiasm. Check out other openings from 2017 and you won't see day after WM hype.

I do realize my example was of day after WM but it was every week.

To think they're gonna have to do it again this year LOL

I don’t disagree with you, and I know that you put the disclaimer up front, but using the night after WM X8 isn’t the best example. I also don’t think anyone disagrees that they need to do something to shake things up. Both shows, but Smackdown especially, are just stale as ****. Unfortunately, unless something unforeseen happens, I wouldn’t even know where to begin to look for that.

Is that the most entertaining that Roman's ever been? I'm being facetious, ofc but he did work the crowd pretty well.

So were face and heel turns always a thing? I can sort of get my mind around people believing wrestling to be a shoot back in the 70s and prior, when it's lots of punches and kicks and grappling on the mat, but traditional face and heel turns seem like they would be impossible to buy into as a shoot.

A feud organically builds between fan favorites and one becomes the heel by being more in the wrong? No problem. That's totally realistic. But now the wrestler who was the heel in that feud just starts exclusively wrestling babyfaces going forward? And suddenly he's just randomly cheating against everyone? I don't know the history of wrestling that far back...was the face/heel structure ever done more believably?

I'm not a fantastic wrestling historian, but yes, heel turns (while much rarer) were a thing as far back as the 1940s/1950s. If memory serves me right (ha!), they were usually done at the top of the card to keep things fresh/generate more interest/money. The most common turns were:

1. An ally turns against the (face) champ because he wants the belt. Pretty easy to sell that.

2. The teacher/pupil thing a la Sammartino/Zybyzko (which I'm sure I spelled wrong).

There were "blood" feuds that stemmed from turns over jealousy/a woman/whatever but as far as I know they were less common.

Last edited by antidan444; 03-23-2018 at 10:34 PM. Reason: One of the reasons there were fewer turns was because wrestlers would rotate to different territories and didn't need turns.
