I kinda half remember a Brock Lesnar vs. either Kurt Angle or maybe Chris Benoit (both?), but maybe that was at RR or something. Basically give me all of your straws and I'll grasp towards them.

I don't think I'd have much prayer at this. I'll say confidently that it wasn't a match from the first 14 WrestleManias. The matches have to have been in my dead zone where I didn't see most PPVs.

And Bret winning the title later in the night only magnified the upset.

I actually watched all of the first ten WrestleManias again since Royal Rumble as a warm-up to this. I meant to watch the entire series but got sidetracked.

I'd power-rank the first ten WMs as follows:

Awesome
1. WM III - Hogan/Andre and Savage/Steamboat, this one wins because the historical value is just so huge. It made wrestling itself a way bigger deal.
2. WM X - two epic matches, great feel-good ending, very little AIDS. In a vacuum and discounting history, it beats WM III.
3. WM VIII - Savage/Flair, Bret/Piper, Warrior's epic return which I marked for even as a kid who only halfway liked him. Great Mania.

Good
4. WM VI - Awesome Hogan/Warrior main event, Andre's curtain call face turn was a great feel-good moment, solid card overall. Very similar in quality to...
5. WM VII - Savage/Warrior is so epic, and the post-match really is GOAT. Hogan/Slaughter is solid, card all-around was pretty good.

Decent
6. WM I - In a vacuum it's the worst one, but if historical value is getting a say then I can't put it at the bottom. No great matches on it. Still sort of fun to watch all the way through for its historic value.
7. WM V - Love Hogan/Savage, the card has a decent bit of filler but I enjoy it overall. It is brought down considerably by a wretched crowd at Trump Plaza.
8. WM IV - Total lack of great matchups, but the story of watching Savage rise to the top is very gratifying when you stand back from it and look at the set of four matches. Not a great PPV but an enjoyable historical artifact.

AIDS
9. WM IX - Not much going for this one. If you search hard enough, you can find things to like about Luger/Perfect, HBK/Tatanka, Steiners/Headshrinkers. But it's a poor PPV. Best historical value from it, I suppose, is that it was the WWF debut of Jim Ross.
10. WM 2 - Pretty wretched. Bulldogs vs. Dream Team was good, but the main event was lame as **** and so was the concept of holding Mania in three different cities.

Wish I'd completed the series so that I could rank all of them.

Actually, I'll take Savage/DiBiase for the tournament/title.

I guess if you rate the "moment" aspect highly enough that could be it. That pop at the end and the celebration afterward in the ring is excellent.

Yes to the bolded one.

Neither, although Eddie/Angle was one I thought about a little before passing on it.

Same as Eddie/Angle.

The other tough cut is going to be tough to guess.

Hey, it's late, I just hit a work deadline after cranking out a story about a 15-14 lacrosse game that was crazy, give me a break.

Both close cuts are still out there.

Went to work coming up with a dream Wrestlemania card of matches that never happened at a Wrestlemania (obviously taking each wrestler at his peak ... initially wrote his/her peak but LOL women's wrestling!) ... wrestlers must have participated in a Wrestlemania to be eligible:

WWE TITLE: Hulk Hogan vs. Steve Austin
* LDO as the main event. The face will win. Who would I make the face? I have no ****ing idea. I personally want to make Austin the face because **** Hogan. But historically, I think that’s wrong.

STREAK ON THE LINE: Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar
* I think Brock is the best choice to challenge Taker’s WM streak. Let the MMA fun begin!

WORLD TAG TITLES: Legion of Doom vs. Steiner Brothers
* This is the best tag matchup I could come up with. I also grudgingly went with this as the only tag match on the card. I know some great tag talent got left off. Sorry.

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP: Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Perfect
* IMO, Perfect was the greatest IC champ (edging Savage and Bret). I just like this match best for Michaels, who’s faced damn near everyone at WM anyway. Perfect would enter as the heel champ and lose.

THE MOTHER OF ALL MONEY IN THE BANK MATCHES: Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat vs. Kurt Angle vs. Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit vs. Owen Hart vs. Edge vs. Jeff Hardy

-----

And here’s an (obviously incomplete) list of guys I currently have doing nothing:

The Rock
Ric Flair
John Cena
Bret Hart
Triple H
Andre the Giant
CM Punk
Ultimate Warrior
Mick Foley
Dusty Rhodes
Randy Orton
Razor Ramon

Gonna keep thinking this one through.

I'd make Austin the face. If you're going for peak vs. peak, neither were at their peak as a heel but Hogan's heel peak was a lot closer to his overall peak than Austin's heel peak was to his.

Also I think HBK-Perfect is a bit of a whiff when they faced each other at a SummerSlam and it disappointed.

I had no clue they ever wrestled on a PPV.

I'm sure Michaels' peak came much later though.

I'm going to stick with my top three matches (although they may not be the last three to go on), but may alter the IC and MitB matches (if I even go the MitB route, which I think I still will just because being able to get eight great wrestlers in a 20-minute match is a good thing).

Last edited by antidan444; 04-05-2013 at 11:29 PM. Reason: Also, there's a very good chance I don't get this card finalized until after WM 29.

SummerSlam 1993, Michaels defended the IC title against Perfect. Sure it wasn't peak vs. peak, but we do have indications that their styles aren't great together.

Doesn't help that they ended the match on a damn countout, obviously not the wrestlers' fault.

Lol just shows how weak this WM is. You guys are making up dream matches and talking about old WMs, instead of the event that is taking place in less than 2 days.

This WM is so weak for me, that I don't even think that I'm going to watch it or read the news reports, and I always have been doing that for the last six years or so. Heck, I haven't been making posts here as of late, due to me being more frequent in the NHL thread.

I do not really care much in Rock/Cena II, or Brock/HHH if HHH is going to win, or Punk/Undertaker (though it may be an interesting match). Heck, I don't even know most of the matchups or why Jericho is wrestling some dude I do not know rather than working a great showcase match with Ziggler or DB and I'm not even excited about Jericho wrestling much as I used to, since I am more intrigued of his band, Fozzy, and his radio show.

I don't even know why I posted, except to just rant on how far out of touch I have been with wrestling in the last few months and how WWE does not give me a reason to care much (I know I am not part of the core audience and blah, blah, blah but if what WWE's offering does not satisfy me, then I am out, plain and simple). Rant over.

WM29 could very easily be the end of the road for me as well. I haven't been even remotely interested in the build and the card does absolutely nothing for me. I'm still going to watch it, but something (I don't know what) will have to happen to re-grab my interest. Board has been so dead lately and that was the only thing keeping me semi-interested for the last several months.

WM29 IS the end of the road for me after 27 years, and the only reason I'm still even half paying attention is because of the pickem contest. Punk is the only guy I give a rat's ass about at this point. Cena as champ does nothing for me at all, and I sure they're going to give him a long run to make up for the fact that he hasn't been strapped for nearly two years, and keep Punk away from him since Vince thinks that feud is dead. Everybody else at the top is part time, and WWE hasn't given me a single reason to care about anyone else with their horrible booking. Not to mention, Raw is unwatchable in the three-hour format. I'll probably still hang around and look out for classic match discussion and stuff, but as far a the current product goes, yeah, this is the end.
