Logically you're right, but I think now that he's shown in kayfabe that he can beat Cena clean without warmup matches, this has sort of gone out the window.

he had that sweet warmup tag match like 8 months prior to beating Cena though!

also Dwayne has never won or participated in an elimination chamber so he needs that for "great one" bonus points imo.

I think it would be pretty cool to have the NWO "third man" angle rehashed with Cena tonight. The Shield takes the top of the ramp or otherwise threatens to interfere with Cena coming out to make the save only to cost The Rock the title and setup their rematch. Of course, having Punk and Cena as mega-heels is probably not going to happen. But, it would allow the Cena/Rock rematch to not be for the title and still have a lot of purpose and Punk could go on to a newly face Ziggler.

Cena will probably turn heel one day on the basis that we've been given the IRM seal of certainty that it will never happen again in his career. With that said, it's nowhere on the horizon at all right now.

since the E has done a remarkably horrible job building a single bankable face, no, cena won't turn heel any time soon out of basic necessity

Cena could essentially get temporary heat until after Wrestlemania and give a "I want my country back" speech the next night. I feel as if, looking back, they have tried some version of a soft invasion angle (NXT, Corre, Shield, etc) so many times in the past few years trying to do something like the "third man" angle but the group never gets traction so they write it off.

That said, the shield could just come down and beat the snot out of Punk with The Rock coming out tomorrow night and laughing as Punk gets stripped of the title while stating he was just in it to cash the check. The corporate champ versus Cena at WM.
