We usually have enough people watching the NXT special events live that I figured we could at least give it a go with giving an event its own thread instead of just burying a bunch of posts about it in the WWE Network thread.
Will add what I know about the builds for those who don't otherwise follow NXT.
NXT Title: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Kevin Owens
If you're unfamiliar with the story going into this match, watch this elite hype video...I do love that excellent hype videos are the one thing that WWE somehow never fail to deliver on.
Great story so far, and the match promises to deliver.
Divas Title: Charlotte (c) vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch
The build to this one has been a bit silly and stupid, but in terms of in-ring action I'd be surprised if this match was anything but good. Charlotte and Bayley are your babyfaces, though Bayley somewhat turned on Charlotte and may be going heel. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch are the heel allies; Sasha expects Becky to help her win, but Becky has pretty clearly shown her desire to go into business for herself.
#1 Contender Match: Adrian Neville vs. Finn Balor
This is the finals of a tournament to determine a #1 contender for the NXT Title. Both are faces. I would suspect that Balor goes over? That would create more unique and new matches at least; I'm in for watching more of Neville vs. Zayn or Neville vs. Owens, but it does feel like Neville should be shifted into a non-title program by now.
Tag Titles: Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake (c) vs. The Lucha Dragons
Murphy and Blake got hotshotted to the top of the (really small) tag division and took the belts off of the Dragons a couple of weeks ago. This is the rematch. Their initial matchup was a good one and I would expect more of the same here.
No DQ: Baron Corbin vs. Bull Dempsey
Baron Corbin has a kickass finisher and was squashing everyone he faced until he lost to Adrian Neville in the semifinals of the #1 contender tournament last week. I've missed pieces of this build; all I've really gathered is that these two keep bumping into each other and then grunting angrily at each other until their segment ends. Something like that.
Hideo Itami vs. Tyler Breeze
These two have no promo photo that I can find, and I also don't remember them building this match at all, but it's on the Wikipedia page as part of the card. I assume that it's just a way to get these two onto the show. Others can fill in the blanks for me if I'm missing something.
Not to hijack away from this "PPV", but it's nice to actually see a #1 Contender Match in the WWE. Seriously, when is the last time a #1 Contender Match happened on Raw? It's nice to see that there is somewhat of a plan to where NXT is going rather than having "oh yeah Cena get's his 9836728th title shot because.... he's well John Cena and LOLCENAWINS"
In. I know LKJ will lol at me for recency bias if I say it after the show so I'll predict it now, Zayn/Owens will be MOTY and probably feud of the year.
Still a rookie when it comes to watching NXT. I've watched the other events on replay but will catch this one live. Excited about the hype for the main event. I havent really seen anything with Owens before he joined WWE.
And the old shows. Basically everything except the current product. If there were ever an option where it would be cheaper to leave off streaming PPVs I'd do that.
It really doesn't have any weak spots. I'm least interested in Corbin-Dempsey and that might still be good.
I'm all kinds of stoked for Zayn-Owens.
I'm kind of into the Corbin character right now and probably don't mind the big guys brawling type matches as much as most here, but I know there will be a point sometime soon when he Roman Reigns and I hate him.
