I remember a great German against Yujiro but can't remember the exact spot.

I did watch Wrestle Kingdom 9, yesterday, and yep, it was awesome. With my short attention span, I didn't think I would go through the whole 4 hour show without being bored, but dang, every match had great watchable qualities and there was no doubting that it was building up to the point that the final 3 matches were tremendous.

I still can't find that gif. Need to just find the time to start watching G1. Haven't seen any of it yet.

So I read the news that ROH and PWG has formed an alliance over sending some of the ROH talents to California for PWG shows. Seems like a good move. ROH doesn't host shows in California, on a regular basis that I know of, so this is a good outlet for them in addition with their partnership with NJPW. In addition to that and everything else non-WWE related, it's a good time be a wrestling fan.

Afaik, the last ROH show in Cali was in January of 2011 when Roderick Strong defeated Jay Briscoe to retain the title. Looking forward to whatever because PWG's been on a downward spiral since late-2012 after an epic 2011 and early 2012.

El Kabong, catch the 14th Anniversary show? I watched it and I'll just c/p what I wrote on WF:

Quote:
Just finished this and it was the first full ROH show I've watched since BitW 2011.

The crowd was superdead for almost the entire show and nothing like 2011. The production is so crisp now. I saw in the opening they had Bryan and Nigel in HD. Did they ever release any events or matches from 02-2011 events in HD?

It was decent but the crowd took me out to an extent. I thought Moose vs Okada was great. I came in with no expectations in that because people itt seemed disappointed that Moose was the guy going against Okada and I'd never seen Moose before. Okada is just such a ****ing superstar, though. He knows how to work a crowd and a match. 6-man was great.

Daniels vs I forget was terrible. Done seemingly only to reunite MCMG. Whatever. I hate hate hate Lethal's finisher as it exposes how choreographed wrestling is. War Machine vs ANX was bad.

I'll probably give them another shot and if the fans aren't corpses, maybe I'll start watching regularly because it's decent enough.
The main event that I neglected to mention was fine and nothing special. It seems some things ran late because it only got ~10 minutes and the show ended at 2hrs 58mins.

Overall I'd give it a 5.5. The show was pretty bad until the second half of the show beginning with Tanahashi/Elgin vs. The Briscoes. The opener (TV title match) was extremely disappointing. I thought it was just bad.

The crowd seemed like they were there more to see the stars than the actual matches, which is weird for ROH, but NJPW has done a good job of building stars. ROH really upped their production at TV tapings a week or two ago, so the weekly free show on the ROH website should look better once those start airing (I don't know when). ROH is running low on guys for the singles undercard because WWE and LU have scooped up so many, so I'd expect that to be pretty weak given that they decided to push Pearce against Whitmer who is one of the few real heels they have had that people legit want to see lose and be embarrassed etc. If they picked somebody that wasn't so mediocre to face Whitmer the crowd might have cared. However, the tag wrestling scene is great (outside of ANX who have no business challenging for the title) and so are Cole and Lethal (outside the finisher).

Thanks for the update, mooro. Do you know if they're going to come out with hd versions of the best shows or matches?

It seems they've taped 3 more weeks of shows and then a new set is airing.

I haven't watched it yet, I forgot it was on and had matches spoiled on twitter. I'm surprised the IC match was bad, I was looking forward to it.

I like Moose so I don't get why people were upset with that pairing. I'll watch that match, Tana/Elgin vs Briscoes, the 6 man and the main event. I heard they filmed Omega vs ACH for the TV tapings so I'm hyped for that.

Have to agree that the Lethal Injection is pretty terrible. I saw a gif of the double one and it made me cringe with Kyle and Cole just standing there hugging each other waiting for Lethal to do a hand stand.

This Ibushi saga is interesting. He was injured shortly before WK but even before he was announced as injured, he was taking time off. He's resigned from both, DDT and NJPW because of "physical and mental burnout". However, he's staying on as a freelancer (which I thought he was already for NJPW). He said it was too much working for two companies and that he's bored wrestling his current style. He's starting his own wrestling school called the "Ibushi Pro Wrestling Institute". It seems he's not going to be wrestling at all in NJPW for the foreseeable future. . If he just signed exclusively with NJPW, he'd be IWGP champ by the end of WK XII in 2018 and maybe even by the end of next years Invasion Attack show in April. Sad news. Translated tweet of what Ibushi said at his press conference.

This has led to Nakamura publicly offering to talk to Ibushi and to get him a spot in WWE. It has also led to Okada claiming his allegiance to NJPW, saying that he would never leave because "NJPW would die" without him. He's definitely correct. Shibata is another guy who, if they signed an exclusive contract, would be in the main event scene, making things better after the recent departures that now include Ibushi. Shibata doesn't even wrestle for other promotions, he just doesn't want to be held to a contract. With Tanahashi injuring his shoulder recently and in addition to having the nagging back injury, NJPW's falling apart.

In other news, the New Japan Cup brackets:
Tanahashi vs. Fale
Tenzan vs. Big Mike

Makabe vs. Tonga
Nagata vs. Goto

Honma vs. Kojima
YTR vs. Yujiro

Ishii vs. EVIL
YOSHI-HASHI vs. Naito

My prediction is Goto vs. Naito in the finals. Naito avenges his loss at the Dome. Naito challenges Okada at Invasion Attack and loses.

NJPW's president also resigned a few days ago. Things not looking good but I'm staying optimistic. It's a huge company, they can pick themselves back up.

Timing is terrible though. Hideo, Asuka and Nakamura all on NXT and don't look to be going to the main roster any time soon. I don't see WWE investing in a fourth Japanese wrestler especially if he has poor English. I hope I'm wrong though. Hideo will be in a really tough spot if they do sign him, Nakamura has more charisma and Ibushi is a better wrestler.

Ibushi should be able to land a spot in that big cruiserweight tournament they are doing if nothing else.

With Vince expanding into NJPW's territory, if he views the management of the company as competent, he will probably try and pluck many stars from them like he did from Verne and Watts in the 80s.

From what I've read Asuka was brought in with the intention of her never being on the main roster.

Oh I completely forgot about the cruiserweight tourn. Yeah I agree he has a decent chance of showing up on that.

I didn't know that about Asuka. A big shame if true.

Well, watched NJPW's Invasion Attack the other night. It is a pretty damn good show. Not only some of the matches were really great like KUSHIDA vs Will Ospreay and the main event of Naito vs Okada for the heavyweight championship, but they did so much to set themselves up well for the next few big events before approaching the G1 Climax in July.

I'll be fair, I had my doubts on whether NJPW can survive after that big acquisition from WWE, but after watching Invasion Attack and reading that they sold out Sumo Hall (had over 9k people attend), had some new debuts that sets up fresh good matchups, and set up a good amount of future title matches, NJPW looks to have righted the ship, for now.

I just spoiled myself on the main event result. Well that was a big mistake. Didn't think Naito had a shot because he's performing way under what he was in 2011 (since he got injured that winter). Makes sense though. Gotta make another big name performer. Take a chance with him. A shame it's not Ibushi

Definitely going to watch to see the title change. I've also never seen Ospeary before. I've heard people rave about him before and now people are raving about his match with one of my favorites .

Shibata vs. Nagata next month :fap:

It might have been Ibushi, but he opted not to go full exclusive with NJPW (I get this feeling that NJPW does not want to go all the way with those that are freelancers and does not have a contract exclusive to NJPW when wrestling in Japan), and decided to do whatever the heck he wants to do now under this "Ibushi Wrestling Research Institute" whatever it means for him.

I would've thought they'd give Shibata the belt before Naito but he's kind of a face but more importantly, he's more over than Naito. So I'd bet that Shibata is taking the G-1 and then challenging Okada or Tanahashi at WK. Even as champ now, I don't think NJPW is going to try to sellout the Tokyo Dome with him on top.

Apparently Ibushi is doing a few dates with a semi-shoot wrestling company, IGW. A great thing for a wrestler who seems injury prone.
