Well, finally watched through WK 11. Man, went through over 5 hours of stuff. I don't think any other company, but NJPW, can get me to watch a 5 hour wrestling show. I stated before that I didn't think WK 10 was a show of the year, but we're only four days in, but I can easily see WK 11 as a show of the year.

Undercard stuff is undercard stuff, but the last four matches certainly delivered with results that I did not expect. Heck, while I was watching Okada/Omega, as the match kept reaching its climax, I was thinking "This is the sort of match dreams are made of!!!!" Heck, I lost track on how long the match was and didn't think it actually went 46 minutes.

I hope that I can attend the NJPW shows in Long Beach in July.

I really really liked the main event. It was excellent. I preferred the match before that though. Was just incredible psychology and story telling going on. I'll likely watch it all again in a few days to see if that opinion holds.

The Naito match definitely had a great story but i enjoyed the Omega match more. Wish the result was different but the way she goes.
Some of the results were surprising but thats a positive.
I wouldnt even consider watching 5 hours of WWE, well i FWD through a couple parts, but it didnt seem like a chore to get through.
I really dont have any problems with Kevin Kelly, actually prefer him the Stricker.

Based on what I've read after seeing Okada/Omega, I'm ready to declare it the most overrated match of all time.

Kind of agree, darO.

It was for sure a great match, 4+ stars, but definitely not best match of all time or whatever. Okada vs. Ishii and Okada vs. Tanahashi last year were both better.

I seemed to enjoy Shibata vs. Goto more than most, thought it was fantastic.

I thought Shibata/Goto and especially Naito/Tanahashi were better.

Last 3 matches were all great, Naito entrance was awesome but Omegas was really bad lol

I need to re-watch but right now I'm still fine with 5*. Maybe not the "best match I've ever seen" but I was marking out and in the moment. There was a lot of meta stuff going on that added a lot to the match for me.

With that said Punk/Cena MITB is the most overrated of all time and it's really not even close.

It was just such a spot fest that basically told no story that included both guys just shrugging off insane damage (especially Okada)

It was still an excellent match but I'd personally give it 4 1/2

I think they told a pretty good story, the stakes were just so high. Okada finally getting his own main event and a chance to prove he's the man without Tana against the gaijin who heads a stable that's known for disrespecting njpw/leaving for the WWE. Both were doing whatever it takes to win. It wasn't perfect though..

Spoiler:
Kenny kicking out of 2 rainmakers was dumb, didn't like that at all. It's like someone kicking out of 2 stunners.

On a side note, the Rainmaker is a terrible finisher

Yeah it doesn't suit him at all. It's almost leg drop bad.

It's just funny that in a promotion full of nasty ass strikes and incredibly dangerous drivers and impact moves, the top 2 guy's finishers are a transitional clothesline and a frog splash.

Meltzer ratings in... history is made.

Quote:
New Japan Rumble 1
Tiger Mask W vs. Tiger the Dark 3
Young Bucks (c) vs. RPG Vice 3.5
Finlay/Ricochet/Kojima (c) vs. Bullet Club, CHAOS, LIJ 3, 1, 3.25 (he rated these in succession)
Cody vs. Juice Robinson 2.75
Kyle O'Reilly (c) vs. Adam Cole 3.5
GOD (c) vs. Ishii/Yano vs. Great Bash Heel 3.5
KUSHIDA (c) vs. Hiromu Takahashi 4.5
Katsuyori Shibata (c) vs. Hirooki Goto 4.5
Tetsuya Naito (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi 4.5
Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Kenny Omega 6

"Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada may have put on the greatest match in pro wrestling history" - Dave Meltzer"

Fun notes:
This is Okada's fifth five star match, third in the past year
This is Omega's sixth match over 4.75 in the past year
First 6 star match ever. I obv loved the match but with that and his negative ratings I say lol Melzter ratings for ever now.

Since the next star rating above 4 is 4.25, shouldn't the next star rating above 5 be 5.25?

As an aside, this is not the first time Meltzer has put out the "above 5 stars" rating:

Quote:
4/3/89 Observer: 3/18 Landover, MD - Capital Centre

"Steamboat pinned Flair in 32 minutes of a match which blew the top off the five star scale. This match was significantly better than their Chicago match and deserved something like 5½ to 6 stars as a fair grade. Those in the know were amazed at how good this match was, particularly when they realized they had another match later that night in Philadelphia (which wasn't as good, but was still a fantastic match)"
He allegedly said the 6/9/95 Misawa/Kobashi v Taue/Kawada match was "*****+"

Just rewatched the match with English commentary and better video....

This was a fantastic match, not necessarily 6 stars but definitely 5 stars.

At least the frog splash looks awesome and has been a finisher by several guys for years. Clothesline hasn't been a finisher since JBL (and Hansen before that), right?

Also, both are still better than a fireman's carry or an elbow drop.

Its also physics as a short arm clothesline creates way less force than the clothesline from hell where jbl gets a running start and just clobbers you with it.

Omega's version with the knee looked awesome as all hell, so of course Okada no sold it.

With the way Tanahashi does his frog splash, he does it in twos as a finisher, one to his opponent's back/or as a crossbody, following with one as a normal frog splash to the chest. Also, his offense is mainly working the legs/knees to ground his opponent and set up High Fly Flow so at least, there's kayfabe logic for Tanahashi having that as a finisher.

Sure, as a finisher, Okada's Rainmaker is basically a short-arm clothesline, but the logic is that he has to spin his opponent from behind before hitting that move thus causing more velocity/impact, I guess? Also helps that his offense is focusing on wearing the neck/upper body down.

Regal would probably be disappointed in me with my analysis of why these are finishers.

I dont think Tanahashi's Frog Splash is bad at all, I just think its funny that he has such a basic finisher in the Wild Wild West that is NJPW's allowable moves.

The Rainmaker looks like **** vs anyone that doesn't sell like HBK is wrestling Hogan tho.
***Official Indy/Puro Thread*** Quote

That I can agree on. When Okada does the Rainmaker on a big guy like Bad Luck Fale, I can't see how the big guy can realistically take the move. Compare that to say AJ Styles when he took the move, Styles always made that move look devastating to take.
