And for one of the worst looking gifs, this. Apparently there are reports saying that Hiromu broke his neck on this move.

From NJPW site:
Quote:
Hiromu Takahashi has been hospitalized after suffering a neck injury while facing Dragon Lee in the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match on Saturday night’s G1 Special in San Francisco.

It is reported Takahashi, after the match was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. He is currently undergoing a thorough evaluation, Takahashi is conscious, and is able to sit and talk.

We at New Japan Pro Wrestling deeply appreciate our fans’ sincere concerns. Please keep checking njpw1972.com for updates as we learn more.
It must be pretty bad if he's still in the hospital

Anyone watching the G1?

I know the internet is going to love this ZSJ/Kota match but ZSJ's offense just looks dumb and pointless and I hate it.

This Naito/Kenny match is awesome so far, worth watching.

edit: ugh Kenny with a stupid reckless move though. It looked **** and there was no way Naito's head would land in any way other than bad.

Spoiler:

It seems like every time I see clips of NJPW it’s some guy almost getting his neck broken

That's actually a very common Omega move and Naito took it fine. Looks worse because of the camera angle.

Really good match. Much prefer these 20-25 minute "sprints" to the hour-long epics (even though I appreciate the epics too.)

Just saw Sabre/Ibushi. That was really good. I know ZSJ isn't everybody's cup of tea, and he's not totally mine, but that match was pretty sweet, had a nice flow to it, especially in the last 10 minutes.

Gotta say, the A block has been quite unexpected. Is this Okada losing streak going to be a thing? (Oh, and I absolutely HATED his theme change and Day 1 entrance.)

I haven't seen any of the G-1 because I don't have the time to sit through a bunch of matches atm but I've heard stellar reviews for Naito/Ishii so I'm looking forward to seeing that

I also heard that Yano/ZSJ was really good . I may check that out for the curiosity factor. I'm not too surprised though. Yano usually bangs out one great match per G-1. I'm also probably a bigger fan of him than most.

dar0, just headed to another sweet redemption storyline

Forgot all about Naito-Ishii ... A+ as advertised. Wish Ishii would have won, though ... not that I expected it, but Ishii is great and I would love to see him get a BIG push someday. The straight right punch he clobbered Naito with in the middle of Naito's disrespectful display was fantastic.

Jay White blows, as does the push he's getting.

Goto-Ishii was predictably fantastic.

Ibushi losing to Yano is all kinds of awful. There's so many legit guys Ibushi can lose to credibly in Block B, there's no need to have a goof like Yano win. Argh.

Some free-form thoughts ...

1. If you haven't watched Omega-Ishii, do it now. Holy hell.

2. If you're looking for bumps that should be criticized, go watch Ibushi's (modified, as it was a Destino counter) brainbuster on Naito. I don't know how Naito isn't in a wheelchair for life. (Also, Naito's shoulder was clearly up on the 3. Bleh.)

3. Block A is coming down to Tanahashi-Okada. Duh. I hipe Tanahashi wins (I'd really like to see a Tanahashi-Omega final because we haven't seen them go at it in about two years since Omega beat Tanahashi for the IC title), but the smart money has to be on Okada as we all know.

4. Block B will come down to Omega-Ibushi with a two-point difference (with Naito potentially ending up tied with both but losing to both head-to-head). Omega absolutely should NOT win the match. If you want Omega in the final, have Ibushi take him to a draw. I think they will have Ibushi win and lose to Okada in the final. Honestly, I would take Omega-Tanahashi or Okada vs. either Omega or Ibushi (even though Okada-Ibushi also happened somewhat recently).

5. Here's what I'm kinda hoping they do: Ibushi beats Omega, Okada beats Tanahashi and Ibushi, and Okada challenges JERICHO at WK 13. Then we get Omega/Ibushi for the title and Okada-Jericho in a great double main, plus we'd get an Omega-Ishii title match before WK13. That would be great.

6. Poor Naito. Poor, poor Naito.

Really I hate every time Naito and Ibushi wrestle each other, wayyyyyyy too many risky neck moves. Was true in last year's G1.

I screwed this up. The match I don't want is another Okada-Omega ... they need to save that for next year's MSG show. Any other combination (Tanahashi-Omega, Tanahashi-Ibushi, Okada-Ibushi) is fine.

Let's just say I intensely hated what they did to Block B today.

Omega and Ibushi both lose due to Firing Squad BS. Horrible.

Now the Naito/Sabre match Saturday matters, and if Naito wins (and he should) Ibushi is frozen out. I think an Omega-Ibushi draw is most likely, meaning we may get Okada-Naito in the final now.

(However, if we get Tanahashi-Naito in the final, that's cool because those two are magic together. Plus it will probably mean either Tanahashi-Omega or Tanahashi-Jericho at WK 13 which are both great. Jericho has mentioned multiple times that he wants to work with Tanahashi.)
