The kliqsters did it on their own. It seemed clear enough after the Sasha/Bayley Ironwoman match that this stuff is HHH-sanctioned.

Is NXT supposed to take place in an alternate reality to the main WWE shows? Why doesn't Charlotte have to be in character?

I don't mind it as much as most in this very specific instance that keeps happening: Someone that did so, so much for nxt having their last match knowing they aren't wrestling there again getting some love from the people they had some great moments with and then getting their send off to the fans. Especially in instances where its a face/face match (like sami/nakamura and asuka/bayley here). I can see the frustration a lot more for the Bayley/Sasha one since they were such big rivals.

Seems like it. HHH was a huge face in NXT when he was the top heel on the main roster.

The fact that it's being done as a meta acknowledgment outside of kayfabe is the problem.

I really think that you can and should reserve deliberate kayfabe-breaking moments to:
Hall of Fame night
retirements
deaths

I get what you're saying and agree for the most part. I guess I just view leaving nxt as a kind of retiring from nxt thing. but maybe it should be reserved for the house shows or the dark stuff after the ppv
