First off, if you hated the crowd during Sasha/Bayley 2, the opening segment with Bayley and Alexa was twice as bad. Not everything has to be a goddamn chant people. Shut the **** up and let them talk. (Full disclosure: this may have soured me on the entire episode)
Nia Jax really needs to change that outfit.
The battle royal ticked a whole bunch of boxes on my things I hate that they do in battle royals.
- Make it a kayfabe hierarchy list. I'm not saying have Elias Samson, Danny Birch, etc. win, but there's no reason the three jobbers have to be thrown out first. It's supposed to be an event with maximum randomness. Showcase that.
- Members of tag teams either turn on each other, or get eliminated together. Why is this necessary?
- Those sequences where wrestler B eliminates wrestler A, then immediately wrestler C eliminates wrestler B, and so on. Starting with Colin Cassady's elimination, I think they got up to wrestler G in this battle royal.
Even more annoying that all of that was Tyler Breeze. What the **** are they doing with him? If you're going to have Apollo win (a move I don't completely hate), why not have Tyler go over at Takeover?
Given the result of the Takeover match, in the battle royal they should have had Tyler in Apollo's spot, Joe in Tyler's spot, and Apollo in Joe's spot. You'd have Tyler as deserving #1 contender and a feud between two undefeated guys, one of whom beat the new #1 contender and the other turning heel by claiming sour grapes that he wasn't anointed with that honor.
Instead Tyler's in another useless feud that he's probably going to lose. Sigh.
I watched it as well, and felt the same way about that opening promo. As for the battle royal, Im old school when it comes to battle royals, and I usually enjoy them. This one was ok, but as someone who isnt the most devoted watcher of NXT, I didnt know more than half of the people in the match.
And as much as I hated the crowd in the opening promo, I hated them even more at the end of this. I understand that everyone wanted Tyler to win. I like him too, and would like to have seen him in that spot, but they tried to hijack that show after he was eliminated. And then they were happy that Tyler eliminated Joe. So that stupid crowd would rather have seen Apollo or Baron wrestle for the title then quite possibly the most talented worker on the roster? Damn idiots!
Edit: I love everything about the Vaudevillians. They are my new favorite tag team
