This might end up being too much for me.

Yeah this match is not my thing. Mox is ****.

I don't think Mox is **** but I've never been a huge fan of hardcore matches.

I have to give it to them for actually doing an uncomfortable amount of violence after the build. It's getting over Moxley's character but it's not something I want to watch.

Now that's just dumb. No one on Earth thinks you're actually going to drive an ice pick into anyone.

I'm not sure if the crowd is dead post-title match, or this just isn't doing it for them, but they are not real into this.

It's just making them uncomfortable I think. They're not doing fun spots that get pops, it's just heinous violence. Which is what they were going for I think, but yikes.

Yeah I'm uncomfortable. Bad look IMO.

Yeah it's CZW style stuff and not something I want to watch. Also uncomfortable to watch.

So, the dropkick over the railing was cool, the V-Trigger through the stage light prop (or whatever that thing was) was cool, and the spots on the exposed ring wood were very cool (ouch at the Phoenix Splash onto it). But, yeah, I could do without any more of that. I don't think it's a great look for AEW.

(But guess what? They have a part of the roster consisting of these guys. Moxley, Janela and Havoc, to name the obvious three, and there will be others. I'm guessing this will be a part of the "three-ring circus" approach that sticks around. Meh.)

You can add Darby to that list for sure.

The ring spots saved the match for me. It doesn’t need to be all about blood and guts. You can make hardcore matches more interesting and they showed how at the end. I agree that I could have gone for a lot less barbed wire, but the broom sweeping was at least “funny” in a deranged sorta way.

Absolutely garbage ending to the world title match. The first post TV ppv title match with a "can never challenge again if I lose" stipulation ends with some screwy non-ending where someone else throws in the towel for cody to a walls of jericho? That's weak as hell and WWE levels of non ending after booking themselves into a corner (not wanting jericho to lose but wanting the stakes to seem high so they add a stupid stipulation which makes it seem like he has to). It's a bray wyatt showing up in a rollins/ambrose hell in a cell match type of ending. That's the type of ending that makes me not care about any of their storylines and is some real carny ****.

The rest of the ppv was whatever. Im not into Ambrose and it sucks that KO is stuck doing CZW matches with him but some people are into that so I'll just attribute it to the three ring circus stuff they mentioned. Jobbing PAC out to Page seems like not a good thing but he's the guy those in charge want to groom to be the next guy so I get it.

Overall I was hoping to enjoy it but came away not expecting to check out the next one. It'll take some good reviews for the next couple before I do.

I will say that I've been hard on JR since he was doing stuff with NJPW (his getting names from both in NJPW and AEW has been frustrating) but he did a good job tonight. I liked his call of the MJF turn and aftermath especially.

As I posted earlier, I liked the finish when it was MJF seemingly looking out for Cody, but planting a seed for possible ulterior motives/doubt down the line. I didn't see it as a cop-out because Cody was basically beaten but refusing to quit. The problem is once they did the MJF turn, it made it all illogical nonsense (if he hates Cody, why did he wait until 30 minutes into the match to do anything) and I think they didn't get what they could have out of the story, since it was barely explained to the audience and the babyface looked like a total moron for not realizing that the obvious heel was a heel.

I would have liked to see the story go on for a few months. Have MJF gain more and more trust with Cody and the audience, even toning down his heel tactics considerably, maybe with a tag team run before having the shoe drop on the turn when people have dropped their guards a bit. This was just a wrestling swerve that didn't make much sense imo.

Completely agree with Rat above and the following from Halpert:

They had a stip. They had a screwy finish. The stip will be overturned despite there being no reason for that to happen. MJF threw in the towel? Who cares. Stip's the stip.

I especially didn't care for the finish because it's the first defense of the title on ppv.

I find it incredibly frustrating when wrestlers are selling injuries but then use the injured body part all the time.

They could've gotten a few more months milking the mjf/cody line but I guess he has to turn on him in the title match. That was a rather pathetic payoff to that story really even though it was obvious he was going to turn at some point.

didn't care for having mox/omega last; title should be last except for very rare occasions (not the other way around wwe...). This one especially egregious, title had the best storyline by far too and the best draw on the entire card.

Mox/mega storyline is well these two got nothing else to do but beat each other up so there is not >>>>> title with story stip promos all that jazz.

Agree that they should have developed the Cody/MJF a lot more. It's basically only been the announcers saying they're friends for a few weeks. Otherwise, why shouldn't you expect the heel to do heel things? But then again, development doesn't really seem to be what this company wants to do.
