I guess this is the reboot. Hope they drop some YouTube content to hype it, give us an actual card, etc.

This is what FITE says:

Quote:
On March 21st NWA is back on FITE! Back for the Attack is the first PPV event of NWA in 2021 and will be big, and historic! The event features the NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis, NWA stars Thunder Rosa, Aron Stevens, Trevor Murdoch, Elijah Burke aka The Pope, Tim Storm, Kamille, and many more.
I'll be tempted to drop $20 to support this, though obviously their roster has taken a big hit in the past year. Not great to have lost Eli Drake and James Storm, not to mention Stu Bennett on commentary. Also if it's empty-arena I think I'll struggle to actually pay money for it.

Alright, **** it, I made the last-minute decision to buy the PPV. Here goes nothing.

I can probably assume at this point that I'm alone here?

So that's probably a yes.

Anyway, it was a pretty good show I thought.

Four-way opener was solid and worked well as an opener. Tyrus vs. Kratos was crap. Latimer vs. Pope was surprisingly really good. Didn't like Murdoch vs. Adonis at all. Rosa vs. Kamille and Aldis vs. Stevens were both good. Tim Storm as the new color commentator was quite good; it's still a loss that Stu Bennett is gone, but Storm fills the seat well. The guest commentators they had were rough, and that's especially true of Austin Idol trying aggressively to ruin the main event. Let's just stick with Galli and Storm on everything without a third wheel for them to try to carry.

I might check out Powerrr later but I'm definitely not excited about it due to the gutted roster. As long as they're signing the Brodus Clays of the world, I would like to see them make a play for Tessa Blanchard, though she may feel that NWA is beneath her or something. Though I just remembered that Allysin Kay is the one who called her out initially and started the whole backlash, so that might be tough... lol.

Unfortunately Powerrr now costs money ($5 per month on FITE), so you won't be able to just queue it up on YouTube. I did go ahead and throw them an initial subscription since that cost is pretty low and I felt pot-committed after dropping $20 on the PPV, especially since I did enjoy the PPV.

Velvet Sky joined the announce team tonight, and she was better than the other third commentators they were throwing at us during the PPV. I didn't think this season premiere of Powerrr was all that great. At least they came to their senses and reinstalled "Into the Fire" as the theme song to the weekly show.

They'll need to earn my monthly sub. Tonight's show wasn't actively bad or anything, but if this is the quality level for the next few weeks then I'm not sure I'd continue to subscribe. I'm not planning to just donate $5/month in perpetuity unless it feels like it's worth paying for.

Meh, I'm interested enough to go subscribe for another month at least. They're doing some solid stuff.

Strangely, the Pope has been the best part of the season, and I didn't like him at all when he started with NWA pre-pandemic.

I had decided to unsubscribe, but then I forgot and let myself get charged again the other day. Tonight's Powerrr was the strongest since the reboot by far. Thunder Rosa vs. Kamille was ridiculously good.

There's a PPV tomorrow (middle afternoon for some reason). I haven't been keeping up with the show but this feature on the Murdoch/Aldis feud might have roped me in. Stellar stuff.

That's a really strong hype video.

NWA has had an issue for a bit that only got worse with the pandemic roster losses, in that Nick Aldis - who is absolutely great - just doesn't have anyone believably on his level. Aron Stevens cut an elite promo to set up his title match at the last PPV, but I didn't believe at all that he could go over. I've kind of felt similarly about Trevor Murdoch, but that video does put doubt in my mind. At some point they're just going to have to pull the trigger on letting someone beat Aldis for the title, and after that video I could see this maybe being the time. That definitely gave me a far greater investment in the match.

I haven't been planning to buy this show, but maybe it will become an impulse buy tomorrow. We'll see. I do think that, while the harm of the roster losses has definitely been felt, the NWA creative has continued to demonstrate good instincts. Aside from pushing Tyrus, at least. He's terrible.

I debated up until show time, but didn't end up buying. Based on how the main event was apparently booked, I have no regrets. That's not a PPV ending.

Ended up getting the VOD. I liked the ending but have a high tolerance for heel shenanigans/screwjobs/etc. I'm guessing everyone is shitting on it but it felt like the heat was on Aldis, not the promotion to me. I do think this reign needs to get over with pretty soon because they can't pull stuff like this every time and need to pay it off. Felt to me like a chapter in Murdoch eventually winning the belt but we'll see. (EDIT: I didn't realize Aldis didn't actually tap and was just going with the announcers -- that makes it a lot worse, though still don't think it's as bad as people are saying.)

The rest of the show was alright. Deeb/Kamille was pretty good. I don't know how good Kamille is but she at least has a sense of what kind of stuff she should be doing in the ring and Deeb can get a match out of anyone. Hoping she sticks around but she's been busy with AEW.

I fast-forwarded the Tyrus match, there was a decent JTG/whatever Darren Young calls himself now match, and a Lucha tag that I didn't like since AEW has ruined "chaotic" tag matches for me forever. The tag title match was better than I expected since it was a triple threat, but they actually told a decent story with it and it felt logical. Kylie Rae debuted in a women's tag. I know her name and that she's sort of walked out on both AEW/IMPACT, so will be interesting to see how that goes. She has the same "smiling" Bayley-esque gimmick but was working sort of heel in the match and cheated to win, then apologized afterwards (maybe insincerely) which was weird.

I haven't watched since Tim Storm and Velvet got added on commentary. Didn't feel like they were very good and it's a looser vibe than previously. Joe Galli is great though and his yelling in the main event about how much of a SOB Aldis is was the kind of thing I miss in wrestling (other promotions try it but it never feels as authentic for some reason).

Also, apparently they advertised a preshow on YouTube and it just never aired.

I'm obviously quite supportive of what this company does in general, but they **** with enough Powerrr endings with bait-and-switch stuff that I hate seeing shenanigans to end a PPV now also. I agree just from reading the recap that this probably means that Murdoch is eventually successful in chasing the title down.

I feel good about Kamille's development at this point. She put on a lengthy time-limit draw with Thunder Rosa recently that I loved. Was glad to see Kamille go over here. Deeb didn't make any appearances on weekly NWA to build this up. I realize she's injured, but there were no promos or anything.

Pope has surprisingly been one of the show MVPs since they came back, and it's a shame that he's been bogged down by Tyrus. Even if a person is willing to look the other way on Tyrus's character issues outside the ring, he's complete garbage in the ring these days, he gets a bunch of X-Pac heat from the crowd, and it's hard to shake the feeling that their insistence on pushing him is basically a silly political statement by Corgan et al.

For the past month or so, it's just been Galli and Velvet, and although Velvet isn't great it's generally been better than when they were doing three-person booth before. Tim Storm got drawn into involvement in a match while at the commentary table, and then it seems that they just went without him for the rest of that taping. I'd much prefer that he continued to wrestle regularly.

Fred Rosser (fka Darren Young) is just wrestling under his real name now. I haven't found him too interesting so far in NWA, but I was glad to see that they had brought in JTG...always thought he was talented.

Not sure anyone else checks this thread anymore, but...

I stopped paying the $5 monthly subscription cost about six months ago, so I've been out of the loop except for what I catch being posted on social media. However, NWA is returning to YouTube, and they're transitioning to a model where the subscription fee is only required to get the shows three days earlier on Fite.tv. They're also going with a $50 annual all-access subscription that gets not only the earlier showings, but includes every PPV under that one annual price. Given that (I believe) each PPV was $30 apiece in the past, this seems like a strong value if I can get back into the product.

My decision to cancel the subscription wasn't really a reflection of me having a negative opinion of the show quality. I was just struggling to stay into it because there's no peanut gallery here to post with about it. But for free, I'll give it a shot again, and maybe they can coax my money away by whenever the next PPV is.

I started watching NWA again. The Crockett Cup is tonight, but the price of the ippv is $45 and I'm not invested in NWA enough to justify paying that price tag. The first episode of this season of power aired some (imo very good) matches from their last ppv, so hopefully the matches will show up on power eventually.

I'm liking Aldis's face turn, and with ROH disbanding there are some good wrestlers (like the Briscoes) replenishing the NWA roster. If anybody is ordering I'd love to hear your thoughts.

NWA started their 8th season post Crockett Cup.

IMO their roster is pretty good (Aldis, the Briscoes, Austin Aries, Chris Adonis/Masters, Matt Cardona, Aron Stevens), although they don't always feature their best talent.

The top angle seems to revolve around Cardona having retained the belt at the Crockett Cup against Aldis thanks to interference and referee Jeff Jarret inadvertently handing the victory to the champion. There's a few ways they could go with this, hopefully Aldis chasing the belt will get some of NWA's momentum back.

The Briscoes bring a lot of energy to the show. Their match with The OGK to start off Power was hit and miss (imo mostly due to The OGK doing a babyface hot tag spot in the middle of the match after being heels the whole time), but the Briscoes are charismatic and super over with the crowd. Trevor Murdoch has turned into a pissed off, aggressive heel and I like him better in that role. Ricky Morton's son Kerry is fantastic in the ring for a rookie. Homicide is getting a lot of air time as the Jr. Heavyweight champion. He's a face who wrestles like a heel and I expect him to turn soon. At the end of Power he wrestled Austin Aries... I wish they had just gone with Aries as champ because he put on a great heel performance in the loss.

They have 2 weekly shows and apparently for $50 you can get all their PPV's. I'm not ready to part with my $ yet, but I like what's on youtube better than what I've seen from the major promotions.

Feels like a good sign for the viability of the NWA that Joe Galli got to a point where he felt he could leave a longtime job behind to focus fully on the NWA job.

I guess more people are going for the $50 subscriptions than I thought... hopefully they'll start running more live shows and tapings.

I haven't watched in a while, but...

Apparently Corgan got NWA a tv deal with the CW network, but that got torpedoed when Father Jim Mitchell snorted coke on a PPV.

I'm having trouble linking to the video on twitter/x. It's here: https://twitter.com/orangecrushart/s...l-exclusive%2F
