Ehh, nothing in particular. Didn't see that UFC event so hadn't seen the fight yet. Was randomly looking over results of it and saw Bader won by KO (Punch), not punches. Figured it was going to be some super awesome smashing KO shot cause I know the power Bader has.

Was a bit disappointed.

Sorry 4thstrete but I knew everything you posted

People quickly realized how crucial it would be afterwards and were already predicting that it would be the catalyst for a boom of the sport, which proved to be absolutely correct. But find me an article or forum posts from before the event that the fight was anticipated at a level that Fedor vs Cro Cop was or, for example, a GSP vs Silva would be, and I'll be happy.

Griffin vs Bonnar stole the spotlight, because it wasn't on them in the first place. It wasn't even the Main Event. The whole "ratings increased as people called their friends to come watch" is indicative of the fact that people weren't interested in the fight until the found out that it was exciting.

The event as a whole was vastly important, but no one placed their sights directly on the one fight, rather the 3 broadcast fights

Not disagreeing with you here. No one said it was the most anticpated fight of all time. At that time no one cared about MMA and for that matter no one was watching. A lot of people consider Leonard Garcia vs The Korean Zombie a great fight and the fight of the year. But was that an anticipated fight at the level of Cro Cop vs Fedor?
No, but that didn't stop people loving that fight.

rmthawk64 asked about the most important fight in MMA history and it was. It was also unquestionable a great fight, which it was as per the topic of this thread.

Not to mention that fight was over 7 years ago, that's a lifetime in MMA. Look how far Forrest Griffin has evolved as a fighter. You also can't look at it from today's eyes and say that it was a great technical fight so it wasn't good.

For you, a highly anticipated fight like an Anderson Silva vs GSP would make a great fight but for many people a Tank Abott slugfest is all they need for a great fight.

Given that Bonnar/Griffin was a key event.

But Ken Shamrock's fights with Kimo and Ortiz which brought the UFC to Las Vegas for the very first time, also had a massive contribution because of the fact that Shamrock brought the WWF fans with him.

Yup, it wasn't a coincidence that The Ultimate Fighter put their shows on following Raw on Spike. A large part of the newer MMA fanbase were pro wrestling fans who stayed after watching Raw to tune into the Ultimate Fighter.

Loveminuszero, Do you think the UFC would still be a company right now if the Bonner/Griffen fight ended via rear naked choke at 4:15 of rd 1?

They both came to brawl and put on a good show for the fans. While technically it wasn't a good fight, they showed a great amount of heart and slugged it out.

Zuffa has copied quite a bit of what they do from the WWE. The prelims on Facebook and then Spike lead into PPVs. They try to build personalities that will help draw buys for the PPVs. This is why all the non Americans and Brazilians get better match ups. Dana clearly moved away from the non confrontational commissioners of other professional sports to be more like McMahan.

They do a terrible job of this, which is part of the reason they've struggled with PPVs over the last 12 months. (Not the whole reason, of course.)

Jared Rollins vs Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver at the UFC 6 finale was one of my favourite fights for ages but I can't find the video anywhere, a real back and forth bloody battle between two less well known names.

Here's highlights of the hendo-Shogun fight. Probably the best fight I've ever seen - and I've seen quite a few.
