Keeping this in the spoiler thread seems silly

Great thread, ****ty pole. Needs more options along the lines of embarrassing/pathetic failure and the ability to pick multiple options.

Guessing he'll fight a couple of bums first because BUYRATES and then promptly get destroyed the first time he steps in with any competent.

Can't find the quote but I saw it earlier...Dana said that he's going to put Punk in the ring with 1-0 guys or less experienced guys because "He's no Brock Lesnar and not being thrown to the lions", paraphrased of course aside from the "no Brock" part.

Who can't laugh at this?

Phil wants to cash in on the drawing power of CM Punk before the character becomes an irrelevant memory and he's too old to compete. Punk looks like a lying, greedy hypocrite by signing with UFC after the statements made on the podcast.

it will be eerily ironic if Punk dies or get paralyzed in the UFC, considering both the egotistical nature of his podcast and the warning from McMahon that "someone is going to die in the octagon"

when I first saw the headlines I figured he was going to be an announcer for them and thought "interesting". this is kinda lol though.

I'll give him credit for this: CM Punk is a MUCH bigger deal than I expected. Seeing him as the front page as the lead headline on yahoo was impressive.

If nothing else, good for him for capitalizing on his momentum, and lol wwe for not doing a better job of it after MITB

I think everyone is dangerously under-rating the guy. I mean, he did legit beat up a fan in the stands once. He has a shot.

I mean, the podcast made it pretty clear that even if this is a cash grab on his drawing power there's nothing hypocritical about it. He pretty bluntly stated that was his MO during his peak after the shoot

It depends how you define success.

IMO making millions of dollars for a few MMA bouts is an epic win, regardless of titles.

He's definitely not making millions for a few fights

Iirc Bork made a half mil per fight just from base salary from UFC so punk making a few mil overall isn't at all inconceivable

He's not incompetent on the ground, and he wants to compete before he's too old to do so. I don't see a problem with it, and I wish him all the best.

I'll give Punk the benefit of the doubt. He might surprise us and I like being surprised. That said, if he does get his ass whipped, it won't be unexpected.

On the podcast, he stated that avoiding serious health risk was a major priority and one of the main reasons he left WWE. For Punk to then turn around and fight in the most dangerous sport in existence, with no experience, is the epitome of phony.

For Punk to say that he'd rather main event an elimination triple threat with Rock/Cena and lose in 5 minutes rather than steal the show with Undertaker in a streak match just tells you everything you need to know about the mindset of CM Punk. WWE made him rich (he possesses no rare talents) and he doesn't give a **** about the business. If I was HHH I would have spit in his face in that boardroom.

Punk is going to sell tickets because he's a curiosity. That has a dollar value attached to it. It will probably harm the UFC's brand in some small way if he flops horribly tho

Yup

Bro likes MMA and had the chance to give it a shot. Good for him. Probs gets his ass beat but who cares. Do you what you love to do.

Dan LeBatard did a solid two minutes on Punk on his radio show today (which is of course why he was signed in the first place), basically saying Punk was going to get his head taken off, that he's in no way comparable to Lesnar or even Bobby Lashley, who both had significant amateur experience, that he was basically signed just to sell tickets, and then kind of laughing at the fact that UFC has fallen off the map to the point where Dana White's two biggest draws were "a woman and this guy".
