Other things that make me pretty sure it was gimmicked.
1. Piper uses some good misdirection. Drops a bunch of clearly hard coconuts on the table, then reaches in the bag and never drops the one he hit him with. Could have easily been marked with a marker, or much lighter, etc. Makes it much easier to believe all the coconuts are the same when he really has one that he obviously protects as the gimmicked one.
2. The coconut busts apart too easily. You'll have a tough time busting one against a brick wall. No doubt even if you hollowed it out or otherwise softened it, that's still a hard shell that's going to hurt if you get cracked in the head with it, but Snuka would have been in the hospital if not dead if that wasn't gimmicked to some degree.
