Feminist Pioneer Stephanie McMahon Presents: WWE Evolution (10/28/18, 7 p.m. ET)

Once upon a time, wrestling was a regressive place for women. The industry leader, the WWE, was very much a boys club, owned and controlled by an old pervert who got his rocks off by forcing one of the women who worked for him to strip off her clothes and bark like a dog as the masses roared in approval. Women were trotted out as a bit of eye candy to perform in between the matches that actually mattered, and to the extent that they were ever given a story, it was essentially a variation on the same mean girls story over and over again.

But one day, the old pervert's daughter found some gumption and rode in on a white horse. Drawing inspiration from her husband, who one night singlehandedly turned around the Monday Night Wars by driving a tank to Monday Nitro and screaming "LET MY PEOPLE GO," Stephanie McMahon rode in on a white horse and decided that women were going to get a respected place in the very company that her husband once saved at that fateful Monday Nitro.

In a compelling piece of television, one night on Monday Night Raw, Stephanie McMahon strode brazenly to the ring and started reciting names of the company's best female wrestlers, declaring that they would be in factions together. Then, to show how serious she truly was that this was going to be a new day, she sent out a company memo that demanded that every announcer say "divas revolution" in every sentence during all subsequent women's matches. These steps did not necessarily make great sense on the surface, but as the famous saying goes, Stephanie works in mysterious ways.

The "divas revolution" morphed into the "women's revolution" over time, and women were able to break new ground with things like their own Money in the Bank, Royal Rumble, and Hell in a Cell matches. On a particularly progressive note, they were even allowed to watch the WWE's first Saudi Arabia event on an HD feed. Tonight marks the culmination of Stephanie McMahon's incredible singlehanded efforts of the past couple of years, as the WWE will put on a women-only PPV event.

---

In all seriousness, I am glad that they've built up a good women's division in the company, and if you can block out the nauseating self-congratulatory nonsense that is 100% certain to be splattered all over this broadcast, I'm optimistic that it could be a good show, even if I'm disheartened by the LMS (LWS) stip on the Charlotte-Becky match.

What match stipulation would you prefer?

Any and/or none. I haven't followed the weekly product in a while, so I don't know if there's a kayfabe reason that they had to have a stip at all, but if they did then LMS would be just about my last choice besides flag-on-a-pole.

What happened to Alexa Bliss? Is she injured? That's disappointing if so.

Becky/Charlotte has become a bit of a blood feud so it makes sense in kayfabe, although LMS is kind of a bad stip in general imo.

Also I see that Alundra Blayze is in the HISTORIC battle royal. wtf isn't she like 60 by now?

Blood feuds can always just escalate to cage or street fight as needed.

Madusa is five years younger than Flair was when he retired, but yeah it's surprising to see her getting in the ring again.

It looks like Alexa suffered a concussion and is being replaced by Alicia Fox.

OP and title get an A+.

Without the Mae Young Classic and NXT, I would have no idea that this event was tonight.

I'm expecting that battle royal to be abysmal, but most of the other in ring action should be mostly decent.

Right away I'm pretty relieved that the arena lights didn't open up on Steph.

It feels like this ppv needs some sort of drinking game. It could end very badly though

edit: thanks LKJ, forgot ppvs started at 4 now

Pretending that Alicia Fox is a suitable stand-in here reminds me of Shawn Michaels subbing into Survivor Series '93 with his knights and pretending that he had been ripping on Stu Hart for months while he hadn't even been in the company.

I'm in because I live in a state with legal marijuana and have nothing better to do.

lol at WWE for everything they do.

But whatever, I'm here watching so maybe I'm the idiot, not them.

Super cool they run a PPV 3 days before Halloween and aren't creative enough to do anything with that.

I don't remember Lita running the ropes like Kelly Kelly.

Trish looks like she has a smaller sized Nia suit.

I was thinking maybe I would come up with a drinking game by 8:30 or 9 and start then. Don't want to peak too early IMO.

And yeah, I've been putting the start time in thread titles just to try to rally people in. I much prefer the 8:00 start times, especially during football season.

This is pretty atrocious, but it makes sense to light up the crowd with the nostalgia pop right off the bat.

Not that I mind that much but it's odd to light this show up like a house show. It's like they made the women's ppv the one with the smallest budget.

Alright, please provide something good next. I want to watch the two title matches, but I sure as **** can't watch three hours of that between now and then.

Re: Feminist Pioneer Stephanie McMahon Presents: WWE Evolution (10/28/18, 7 p.m. ET)

I say this all the time so it's probably annoying to post it again, but my problem with the women's division is that 90% of them are sub-5'8" petite models.

But the WWE advertises them as if they're badasses, so I end up watching a bunch of featherweights under the guise they're tough, which they clearly are not. At least not in a fighting sense of the word.

Could you imagine if every male wrestler was 5'10" and built like a long distance runner? Tough to take that seriously as a combat sport.

Why has Asuka been de-pushed so hard? She was one of the main women I always wanted to watch. I wondered if she was injured too, but I see she's in the battle royal.

Because... stuff.

I heard on a podcast it was only 13 months ago she debuted on the main roster, and they've already got nothing for her to do.

Carmella is always awesome though.

Who would have guessed out of her, Enzo, and Big Cass, she would be the only one on the payroll at all now.

I'm fairly sure people only care about Torrie in this. She's in this right? I hope so.
