+1 to all that. I thought it was dragging a little bit and then I looked after the match and it went a little under 27 minutes. Way too long.

Glad to see this from DDP:

Quote:
DDP has done a couple of battle royals in recent years but his last match came eight years ago. He was asked if we may see him wrestle one more match.

"I've gotta say no, truthfully, and I'm not working you. My body feels too good that I don't wanna screw anything up," DDP said before telling a story of a then-71-year-old Bruno Sammartino being offered a spot in a DDP match to which Bruno replied, 'No, no. I feel so good right now, I don't wanna play with it.'

"I didn't understand it because I was 51, 52 and felt like I could run through a brick wall. At 63 I kinda understand."

While he doesn't see himself wrestling again, that doesn't mean you won't see him in the ring again.

"I really don't see it happening [with another match]. Some Diamond Cutters – I have plenty of those left in me," stated DDP. "But actually working? I'm gonna say no right now because I'd have to get paid to take any kind of bumps [laughs]...

It's kind of like what Arn Anderson said about spine busters. He has a very limited amount left in his body and needs to save them for special occasions. Claims to only have handed out three since he retired.

I'm fine with seeing older guys in that capacity, but I don't like them going toe to toe with current talent and coming out ahead. He can hand out all the Diamond Cutters he wants, but if he wants to be a regular part of programming, his best use might be taking a beating or two from an up and comer.

AEW Dark featured Darby Allin vs. Jimmy Havoc vs. Jack Evans in a falls count anywhere match. Darby was super over. When his music hit, the place exploded and he got chants through the match as well. This was probably the best showcase of him and he wrestled circles around the others. An accurate representation of this match:

Are you sure it has nothing to do with DDP having a successful life outside of wrestling now?

Money talks, offer people enough and they'll do it. It's easy for successful people to say ****, replace that with previously big name people who wasted their money and you can't get why they'd take payout even though it'd **** their body up, especially when their bodies are already ****ed. If anything the oppsite is true, say it's your last match get more money, a few years later say it again.

I 100% agree I don't want to see Flair die trying to wrestle just for a payday but you all need to get over this wrestling is like a sport where if people retire they should retire (i.e. they can no longer compete). IT isn't, make the money right for anyone and they'll do it. The realistic scenario is for most people the money doesn't make sense for how much of a draw they are (i.e DDP).

PAC was #2 in the AEW contender rankings Of course he's gonna lose. He's good and I've warmed to him, but no way in hell is he #2?

Just the way they had MJF come out after Cody made me think MJF was going to turn on him especially with how much they started talking about their friendship etc. Didn't exoect it to go down the way it did though. I hope whoever through the drink on MJF is banned 4 life.

Speaking of Jericho, him and Sammy are challenging for the tag titles. We also getting a rubber match between Hangman and Pac. I'm gonna miss the first hour or so and maybe all of it

Double or Nothing PPV tonight in Jacksonville. I can't remember the last time I paid for a wrestling PPV (not counting the network streaming), but I'm actually gonna buy this one.

Perfect combination of boredom and intrigue in this card has me ready to part with fiddy bones. Anyone else watching this?

Card looks solid overall. Don't have any interest in their 'top feud' which is a problem for AEW, but I think there should be 5 above average matches.

-Cody/Archer
-MJF/Jungle Boy
-Nyla Rose/Hikaru Shida
-AEW version of a MITB ladder match
-Inner Circle vs Elite

Ladder match was won by a debuting Brian Cage. I’m not familiar with his work but apparently he’s a big deal. I’ll say this, he is ****ing HUGE.

Good match, bunch of cool spots

I enjoyed the MJF/Jungle Boy match. Those are two young guys they can build around.

Ladder match felt like a lot of spots and contrivances with people disappearing for long periods, but that's par for the course. Cage definitely has potential. IIRC he is too roided up to pass even WWE's wellness tests, which can probably get him some heat with AEW's audience.

This is a major minority opinion, but I find AEW's use of wrestlers in the crowd to be distracting and corny.

It's wild how much better these AEW shows/PPVs have been than WWE

MJF-Jungle Boy was very good.

Glad they addressed that TNT belt not being completed, because it looked ridiculous

Shawn Spears just got buried deeper than just about anyone has been in WWE.

Cody match was the usual melodramatic stuff. I'm seeing a lot of promise in Archer so I don't know how I feel about that win. Based on reddit response the tide is turning and I could see Cody being an effective heel soon.

I like Statlander's potential but think the alien gimmick is limiting her potential a lot. Eagerly awaiting her "I'm serious now" turn where she ditches that.

I love the way AEW hypes title matches like they just did with the women's title, with commentators picking who they think will win and breaking it down in a sports-like style.

Nyla/Shida was great. As people criticized the women's division for its sloppy wrestling early on, I thought one of the solutions would be doing a more brawly/grudge match style, which this was. Felt like a fight instead of convoluted moves.

I think having Nyla drop the title is pretty bad though. She should have been a monster heel like Shayna in NXT who created a new star at a point where people were desperate for her to lose.

Is Mr. Brodie Lee the worst gimmick/performer pairing of all time?

It's terrible imo. Has actually caused me to watch the TV show less because it's so goofy and I had expectations for him doing something cool on AEW.

Agree completely about Nyla/Shida. Great match wrong winner.

I don’t care at all about this title match. Bring on the Stampede
