I love how the commentary team no sold it.

Uhh...so now what?

It was not clear at all what is happening.

Hopefully Bryan wins the Belt/interim however they handle it.

Yeah it was very confusing but Punk's still champ and on Wednesday they're going to open the show with a battle royal. The winner of that battle royal will face Mox at Forbidden Door later in June.

The above is wrong. Show opens with a battle royal on Wednesday, the winner of that faces Mox in the main event later that night, and the winner of that faces someone at Forbidden Door for the interim championsip. A lot of people assuming it's going to be Tanahashi they face because that was Punk's opponent.

It will be the winner of Tanahashi vs. Goto on June 8th. Tanahashi should win so it'll be Tanahashi vs. ? for the interim title at Forbidden Door.

That whole thing was handled very sloppily by AEW.
  • So, CM Punk is injured and he gives an emotional speech about needing to have surgery and taking some time off to recover.
  • During this speech, he is never really clear about what is happening with the title.
  • Later, Jericho says that Punk is relinquishing the title. Up until this point, everything could have made sense.
  • Then, they take that back and say that there will be an interim title. Shouldn't the commentary team be more aware of what is happening?
  • This idea of an interim belt is stupid in the first place, but even dumber because it went against Punk's speech of not holding up things and giving chances to the talent in the back. Punk isn't sacrificing anything and is clearly holding things up.
  • And to top it off, they give Jon Moxley a bye into the defacto semifinals for the belt. He wasn't the top ranked guy. He wasn't even top 3. He was #4. And then they retcon the rankings after Rampage, shooting Mox up to #1 for...beating Daniel Garcia?

This was nonsensical to a level normally reserved for WWE.

Yah, that whole thing was just awkward. Also, I'm pretty sure on-air they said it would be Mox vs. the battle royale winner at Forbidden Door, then they changed it immediately after.

The interim belt is a dumb idea. I would think it would be cooler having Punk come back and being the TWO TIME champ anyway, rather than just the unification.

Moxley has wrestled 1 singles match over the past 8 weeks and is somehow the #1 singles contender. Yah ok.

It also means that way more likely than not the top title scene's predictable until whoever wins the interim belt faces Punk to unify.

If they insist on doing the interim title, I'd much rather they'd have gone the 1993 IC title route where there was a battle royal and the last two faced each other the next week. Have Mox and Bryan be the last two and they can face each other the same night as the Jericho/Kingston hair vs. hair match in two Wednesday's and make it a super stacked show.

I’m excited for some interim shenanigans. TK weirdly seems to thrive in these surprise scenarios, and Wednesday is looking fun as hell.

Once again, chaos is king in AEW. I almost wish stuff like multiple injuries would happen more often, as TK just throws everything at the wall to improve the product. Lot of opportunities for a roster shuffle, and the cards just keep getting better. The new belt is exciting. Forbidden Door is gonna be insane.

I’m going to be there live for Dynamite next week, can’t wait!

I actually thought that episode was pretty underwhelming. The Battle Royale was awful. There was no one in it who could even be a world champ, so once the joker was Andrade, it was just a matter of who would be the sacrificial lamb to Moxley. They basically eliminated all tension entirely.

The new belt is cool I guess, mainly b/c it has all the guys I wanted in the TNT picture. That tournament is far more interesting to me than the main belt stuff. I guess Scorpio will just hold the TNT belt hostage for a bit longer and hopefully Wardlow can finally get it and something interesting can happen with the TNT belt for the first time in ages.

Next week's Dynamite will be worth it for the 3-way tag title ladder match alone.

Yeah the first hour was pretty bad. I put the rest of it on mute on my second monitor and watched the finals so missed a lot of the rest but didn't look great. Pac vs. Buddy was very good though.

Next week also features Jericho vs. Kingston in hair vs. hair which I think will be very good.

Hoping desperately that Jericho loses that match. He's been horrible for awhile and needs a reboot. And please, for the love of god, shut up about wizards and fireballs.

That trios match was awesome.

Sorry some of you guys aren’t enjoying AEW, but I’m still loving it. I’ve been having much more fun once I started ignoring the online chatter and live thread participation. Nothing against that, it’s great to have someone to talk to about wrestling. But, I find there’s a lot of needless negativity and the hivemind can quickly spiral. This goes for WWE stuff as well.

Just gonna strive to be a simple mark from now on.

AEW's been fine. It had one really bad episode and even in that had somethings to enjoy (Pac/Buddy and KOR/Mox). Can't always be roses. I haven't been spoiled on the trios match so might seek it out

I think you misspelled "retirement".

Seriously, I'm struggling to remember the last thing Jericho was involved in that was truly engaging.

I like Jericho as the comedy character

Watched Rampage (minus women stuff) and it was pretty good. When I saw Jake Hager faced Eddie Kingston in the opener, I had to watch. A fun little match with the highlight for me being Hager double legging Eddie, picking him up high in the air, and slamming the **** out of him. I've always liked Hager. He's great. He's not top of the card great but he should be in the ring more often.

I'm still enjoying it a great deal, I just like to vent.

It's mainly Jericho and the booking of a couple of the titles in general that have irked me, but there are plenty of positives and it's still miles ahead of WWE.

I hated Jericho as the aging rocker, but this sports entertainer thing has been brilliant. I need more fireballs, stat!

Can’t believe how much I love Hookhausen, considering I was adamantly against Danhausen coming to AEW. I love how his hair is becoming progressively more like Hook’s.

As always, Statlander deserves everything.

Hookhausen is awesome.

Final of the women's Owen tourney should've been Stat v. Storm.

Wardlow v. 20 scrubs will be hilarious.

I know Ethan Page will just be cannon fodder for Miro, but he's a guy who I think could be pushed way up the card, hopefully he has a good showing.

Road Rager should be another great Dynamite!

The sadness that washed over me when I saw Ortiz come out to face Jericho instead of Eddie. It was a good match though. The spot where Kingston did the spinning back fist had me really bite for that near fall.

Wardlow stuff wasn't offensively bad or enjoyable. This Dax/Will match should be good . edits: Dax/Will easily one of the best AEW matches of the year.

Forbidden Door build has been a cluster. Kind of a shame considering some of the talent on that card.
