Anyone watching AEW and their seemingly enormous referees?

Picking MJF to be in his corner is a great tribute to his father, Sting

Cody/Spears was as bad as you'd expect it to be

I liked the old school psychology of the match with a babyface/heel, the managers, etc. Better than the rest of this show which as been heavy on spotfests, random moves and "shocking" kickouts for my tastes.

I don't really understand MJF's character right now, since people keep proclaiming him to be the "best heel in wrestling" but now he's apparently sincerely supporting Cody and firing up the crowd that he has been calling nerd losers and virgins in every promo.

I've been watching. PAC vs Omega was good but the rest has been very underwhelming so far.

This felt EXACTLY like all those plodding HHH matches where he farts around for 25 minutes while a bunch of crap goes on until he hits his 3 moves and wins, but with Cody instead of HHH

God dammit. I'm not watching the show because football, but I trust that your account of things is on point. Really didn't want this to just be NXT with a bigger budget.

Yeah I understand this view. I think in the context of the show I just appreciated that it had an actual story with characters and some drama instead of guys hitting a ton of moves and then shaking hands afterwards.

I've only seen Omega/PAC because it got posted on Youtube, but I thought it was pretty sloppy. Good but nothing more. Omega has been pretty disappointing since ... well, since the 2018 G1, actually.

It hasn't been as absurd as Takeover's but it's not surprising considering the foundation AEW's built on (Bucks/Omega).

I really can't even quite understand the thought process of people who are happy to see the "OMG shocking kickout" become so prevalent. It's more than just a matter of taste, and I can't imagine that they have some magic immunity I don't in terms of no longer being shocked by almost any kickout. I don't know how it can still be enjoyable when you expect it.

It's more a general fatiguing trend of every match going on 5-10 too many minutes with big nearfalls than specifically egregious kickouts. Some of these midcard matches should be simple 8-10 minute deals with decisive finishes.

Man you're gonna hate that 93 lb Joshi who's gimmick appears to be "Kicks out of everything and scores a flash pin"

Yeah I have no familiarity, but that sounds WOATish.

I do get people who love cheap spotfests way more than I do. I wish they were less popular for selfish reasons, but I at least can't pretend to not understand. It's just the kickout thing that feels like it should be a point of unity even among people with different taste.

I will say that Ladder matches are perfect for that type of ridiculousness and this one is pretty good

(TYB vs Lucha Bros that is)

I can't do Young Bucks matches. The Canadian Destroyer off the ladder through the table spot (yes, really) should have taken the recipient to the hospital but instead everyone gets up and keeps setting up spots.

At least it's a ladder match so they're not kicking out of everything. And the spots are objectively amazing to watch sometimes.

I'm not enjoying this match. I really hate the spots where they do the same moves at the same time and the commentators are like "thats how well they know each other" :|
