in retrospect my bitching about the rollins/miz match.. while justified IMO may have been a bit premature given the rest of the card (which luckily i had to watch on demand and not live so i skimmed through a lot of it)

the elias stuff was a liiittle long if im nitpicking (which i am) but otherwise was good stuff

i can see how a lot of that stuff would be better (and in terms of the final match, worse) live, thanks for the TR disko

I listened to Big Dave and Bryan A. talk about this show. Bryan brought up a good point. This Nak/AJ stuff is likely leading to a LMS match. My first thought to that was: they can do a count out in the LMS match as well! There's precedence for this happening on a couple of occasions. Imagine if they actually did that? I can't even fathom the reaction of fans if they did that finish. Naturally, that makes me want to see it.

The Elias stuff was fun. I was just bummed to see what Roode's turned into. A year ago he was NXT champion and a great heel. Now, he's a meme.

Roode can turn it around whenever he goes heel again IMO. Never forget just what a brutal face Miz was.

Miz would have done fine if booked as an antihero/chip on his shoulder (like the Talking Smack segment with Bryan), but like most, he's a terrible pure babyface

I'd like to think he could do it if booked right, but it's hard not to feel a bit dubious after that initial display.

As is, I wish smark crowds would recalibrate and show appreciation to the heels they love by booing the **** out of them. The insistence on cheering Miz creates bad, bad possibilities.

It wouldn't be an issue if faces weren't so awful and being shoved down our throats. Fans should be booing the guy in the wrong, and with how bad the booking is now, it's usually the face that's lacking authenticity or the moral high ground.

I don't advocate booing entertaining heels out of any concern for it being better for the show in the immediate; I advocate booing great heels because cheering them causes unwelcome face turns.

it’s hard to resist cheering heels when the faces are the most unlikeable guys on the roster

they just lost touch with what people want to root for. even the snarkiest fans would pull for DDP over the nWo and stuff like that. NWO had the best heels but it doesn’t matter if you tell a good face story and the heels are actually annoying and not just funny/sarcastic

huge part of the problem is the smarks wanna show how much smarter they are than everyone else and cheer all the heels at every chance...but yea it doens't help that the faces are awful

They make the heels funny and cool, and the faces boring and lame.

It's not about trying to outsmart anything; it's the fact they make the faces act like Nia Jax (super lame), and the heels get to be clever and likable (Elias).

I think they've just sort of lost touch with basic storytelling principles.

I watched it because of this post and...

That was awful. Skimmed through some of the PPV, didn't watch a match in full but did watch the Elias skit and enjoyed it. Elias is a pretty awesome talent. On top of nailing his character, his promos allow him more freedom to ad-lib than other characters on the show and his reactions are usually great.

On the plus side we got a Brittney gif out of it... so that's something.

Just watched Bryan/Big Cass after reading how bad it was. I refused to believe a Daniel Bryan match could be as bad as everything I read said it was, but here we are. This is like HBK/Sid, but at least the crowd cared about Sid back then. If you can’t have at least a decent match with Daniel Bryan, who can you have one with? Meltzer wrote that he doesn’t think even Okada could have a good match with Cass.

Yeah, listening to his review of the show, he said he didn't think Okada could carry him to a 2.5* match

This just makes me want to see Okada vs. Bryan

IMO HBK/Sid wasn't that bad. On last viewings, I gave *** to their Survivor Series '96 match and **3/4 to their Royal Rumble '97 match. Not high obviously, but honestly I have to think that even HBK had worse than that at some point.

What do you think was HBK’s worse match during that run?

I don't remember this match well at all, but at my last viewing of Michaels-Bulldog from IYH: Beware of Dog (from the MNW thread), I called it "mailed in," a "garbage match," and gave it only one star.
