Phil Ivey to Sue Crockfords Casino! Phil Ivey to Sue Crockfords Casino!

Here is an article I found on poker news today:

http://www.pokernews.com/news/2013/0...7-8m-14945.htm

Basically, this whole Puto Banco fiasco has been going on longer than it should have. They should tell the man, "Hey we think you cheated and you aren't getting the money." My opinion is that they have taken too long to make a clear decision and have forced the hand of one of my favorite professionals. Now, let me be clear, I think he made fair winnings, but at the same time he may have cheated. I blame the casino for not making that explicitly clear from the jump. Any thoughts?

My thoughts is that if this is the case and they dont have any evidence they are going to have a tough time in High Court against Ivey. I think this case would be solved before they eventually meet in Court though.

One would hope. This tarnishes Crockfords' reputation in my book. I mean to wait seven months to take a stand? That is suspect to me. If you are the such a venerable establishment and someone beats one of your games badly, would you not have the foresight to check with your floor people? Maybe they are just broke and cannot afford the payment.

It just breaks my heart that a former owner of FTP is having trouble getting his money from a casino.

What is this world coming to?

how the **** can he afford to bet 150k euro per hand

It's the casinos responsibility to make sure their cards, dice, and tables are on the up and up. I don't see a problem with Ivey exploiting a flaw that was present in the game. Going out of your way to cheat is one thing, but as far as I can see, this is just a gambler taking full advantage of an edge that he was observant enough to find. The casino has the right to stop the action at any time, has the right to ask him to leave and not come back, they do not have the right however, to withhold his winnings.

Well, I don't think it's mentioned in the article above, but I read another article on Yahoo Sports this morning that said the casino is claiming that Ivey was cheating. They're trying to say there was a rouge deck in play and that Ivey was able to know what the cards were when they were face down.

Here's the link to that article:

LOL! Puto Banco? Puto means like a pimp in spanish. Unless you mean Punto Banco which is Baccarat.

IIRC, gambling debts are not enforceable in UK law courts.

The situation may have changed.

Someone jump in if they know better.

That definition is the EXTENDED SLANG meaning (my term). The first dictionary definition is a male prostitute, a male whore.

Anyway, I don't see Ivey getting paid. The "turning the cards around" for superstition's sake thing is really killing it for me.

The casino overall is a vulture and is ruthless. Even if he did cheat, more power to him. Oh and btw yeah ****ing right.......in the high roller area of any casino, anyone 'winning' is super monitored and if there was any fowl play at hand they would have caught it immediately. Just an excuse not to pay.

WTF IS PUTO BLANCO
06-03-2013 , 05:31 PM
It's sad that there's no way for anyone to access a search engine and type in "wtf is punto banco" and get an answer in less than a minute. If only. Now you'll have to wait literally hours until someone clues you in! Let's hope that happens soon.

a table game with a very low house edge compared to other table games ... besides it´s played very fast (=many h/hour)
06-04-2013 , 04:15 PM
So low it's just about double the edge of strip rules BJ.

Nah, if he really did cheat, more power to the casino and he should be thrown in jail. People rot in jail for scamming for a lot less money than that, why not him?

He didn't cheat though, but he didn't not cheat, either. It's a grey area. I don't understand why he, of all people, wanted to do this.
