My Love/Hate Relationship with FanDuel

I'm guessing that this thread could be locked, but I'm not here to write a glowing review of FanDuel. Far from it, actually. The one thing that I do like about FanDuel is that I believe it is beatable, even with the high number of regs that sit in all of the multiplayer contests. Since it's near impossible to avoid those regs, that's a good thing--a virtual necessity.

Granted, I'm a well above average player. I have been on the FanDuel leaderboard for the past 2 months, but I think that anyone can become a winning player on their site with enough work & dedication.

Here is where the problem comes in, their software SUCKS!!! Oh my God, it sucks so bad. I can't believe how slow it is. It's like that old Heinz ketchup commercial where the guy is standing on the ledge of a skyscraper, unscrews the Heinz bottle, lays it on its side, and then has time to run down 90 flights of stairs just in time to have the ketchup finally come out of the bottle and onto his waiting hot dog.

I kid you not last week, I spent 7+ hrs just to register for 110 contests. I had never registered for over 60 on there before, and I seriously regretted registering for that many contests. I created "dummy" lineups to be able to register for them all, with the intention of going back & editing them before first pitch. Because of how epically slow their software is, I was unable to edit at least 20 lineups. I lost 75% of my bankroll that night.

I now hate FanDuel. I mean, before their slow software annoyed me, but this time it cost me dearly. And the thing of it is, if you can't play in 100 tournaments a day & set optimal lineups, then you can't make any real money.

Just wanted to share these thoughts & opinions and see if anyone else has had the same experience. Would also like to know if Draft Day's software is any faster? If so, I will transfer my roll onto to Draft Day ASAP.

I would be particularly interested to hear from dips56, the clone, ehafner, primtime420, ray of hope, lovebases, moneysink, mrtuttle05, shorts, bringemvaught, thedude404, PippenAintEasy, or any of the other regs who play on FanDuel religiously. Thanks.

um, i think its pretty much common knowledge that fan duel's software sucks.
Only thing i can say is vote with your wallet, there are other sites out there, including this forum's sponsor Draft Day who has some of the best software out there imo.

Re: My Love/Hate Relationship with FanDuel

software definitely sucks, but 1hr to reg 100 games is definitely way too much. should be able to get that down to 15m. edit: Just read that again. SEVEN HOURS? yea, you're doing it wrong.

some tips:
- 20 entries per dummy roster to avoid the export from glitching (though i think they just fixed this bug)
- for heads up games, get to the screen where you're about to submit the lineup, then hit alt-d followed by alt-enter, will duplicate the tab, then you can control-tab through them all to submit. easy to fire off 20+ this way. repeat per buyin level.
- for gpps - middle click on your mouse (push in on the scroll wheel) to open different events in new tabs. you can just middle click 5x on all the gpps in the export screen then control-tab through and submit.
- for 50/50s - if you submit a lineup into a contest that you've already maxed entries on, fanduel will use that lineup you just tried to submit as a default lineup until you submit something official. SO. lets say you're putting a dummy roster into the guaranteed doubles, but want to put it in the 50/50's too, which arent available on export lineup.. put the dummy lineup into a guaranteed single entry twice - when it gives you an error, go back to the lobby and middle click all the 50/50s you want to join, they will all have that dummy lineup preloaded so you dont have to import each one individually.

or just play on draftday, whatever. tho DK's new mylineups page probably puts it above DD for best overall software now. easier to reg, easier to sweat.

Re: My Love/Hate Relationship with FanDuel

to be clear, i kept referencing the 'export screen' when i meant to say 'Enter other games screen'

export is obv the one you use once already reg'd and are trying to set.

Re: My Love/Hate Relationship with FanDuel

Thank you for the tips! Yeah, I knew that I wasn't doing it right, lol. I guess, I should add a couple of details too, though.

I started out on FanDuel with a $100 buyin, went bust and then re-bought for $100 more. From there I pretty much had things down, and once I saw that I was holding my own versus the regs, I started registering for tournaments the night before too. So, after the Late Night tournaments start you can go to the lobby and find tournaments loading for the next day. If you're trying to play 100+ tournaments/contests a day it's important to get in these tournaments.

Most of the time I begin doing my research for tournaments/contests the night before. This night was no exception, only this night I found more players that I liked than usual. Whereas, I normally narrow it down to just 1 or maybe 2 guys that I like per position, and for the outfield 4-5 guys, this night I liked as many as 4 guys per position, and I liked about 12 outfielders. So, about 4 of those 7 hours were spent doing research and trying to rank all of these favorable splits matchups 1-4 at each position and 1-12 in the outfield.

Another thing that I had just started doing was setting a different lineup for 50/50s & h2hs than I would set for 5 mans, 10 mans, 20 mans, and another lineup for the mega tournaments too. For example, Joe Mauer is a safer play in a 50/50 where I am less worried about an 0-4, than I would be with J.P. Arencibia. I would play Arencibia in the mega tournaments where I feel he has a better chance of hitting a home run.

I had a problem that night too where I was trying to get in a $25 3-man contest with two new players, which is rare to see, but FanDuel kept sending me back to a $1 tournament screen that it wasn't allowing me to register for because I had five $1 tournaments open already. Talked to support for 45 minutes, but could never get that handled, so I went to bed with 106 tournaments registered.

The real problem that I experienced with FanDuel's software is that I woke up about 2.5 hours before first pitch, but I still didn't have enough time to go back and manually adjust lineups. Obviously, you have to first check the actual mlb lineups to make sure that the players you've selected are actually starting. Then you also have to look at the weather forecasts, so that eats up 15-20 minutues. I like to also look and see if a player I like has been moved from 2nd in the batting order to 8th or little things like that. This particular night, I started with about 1 hr and 45 minutes before 1st pitches going back & importing lineups based on whether it was a 50/50, multi-player tournament, 3-man contest, etc. In 1 hour and 45 minutes, I was still not able to import lineups for all 110 of my contests/tournaments. I had about 12 dummy lineups for that night, and about 30 or so lineups at the end I just started importing my 50/50s lineup regardless of the type of tournament it was.

I'm pretty sure that your tips will help to do things more efficiently; although, I'm not sure that I understand the export function. I'm mainly familiar with import. I'm also pretty sure that FanDuel, ultimately, just sucks so bad that it doesn't present a good hourly rate for even the best players.

Re: My Love/Hate Relationship with FanDuel

Fanduel and all those daily fantasy sports is a bunch of bull. You will sit there setting up heads up matches you can set up 100 games and it seems like they have a worker or some person sit like 80 of your games they start your pitcher and do multiple different lineups so you cant profit and pay a ton of rake. It seems like everything online is some sort of scam these days. I knew something was fishy when he picked like 80 of my matches. Is there anything thats not rigged online these days? You just have go to wok 9 to 5 if you want to make money.

Some regs will take every game posted by an unknown player. So it's not the site sitting a worker in your games, it's a sharp taking your action because they think they're probably better than you.
