[Thanks for clearing up the betting limits also.]

Vegas has the nittiest 1/2 games I've ever played in.

Is that good or bad?

Bad. Less profitable then the standard loose passive local games, imo.

Geez, where did you play? I was just there a few weekends ago, and after quitting the 1/2/5 PLO game @ the Venetian to donk around with my friend @ 1/2 NLHE, I was pretty shocked at how horrible (in a non-nitty way) the players at my table were.

I think it's a combination of lots of things: the people playing in London generally are fairly intelligent, educated, and successful; you have to register to play there which likely puts off a lot of tourists; rake is higher and alcohol isn't free...

While there may be more regs in Vegas, and I'm sure many of them are significantly better, I've found that on the whole that many of them aren't that great and they don't need to be, because when push comes to shove you can't beat Vegas for the sheer numbers of drunk and/or clueless tourists who wander into the poker room and either a) think they know what they're doing but clearly don't or b) know they're amateurs but just want to gamble and have fun. If you can afford to play (what I consider) higher limits in London, there are occasionally some huge whales playing 2-5 and 5-10 GBP NL games... usually businessmen from the Middle East with tons of money and an urge to gamble, but they seem to be more the exception to the rule. In London, the most I ever made in a session was about 6xs my buy-in, in Vegas routinely made 10-15xs my buy-in every day. Going back this weekend and can't wait to play some cards...
10-15x BI daily.....I don't think so.

generally yes, because more people who wouldn't normally seek out a game are in the game, but it really does depend on the table, sometimes it can be much harder

absolutely yes last trip to vegas i won every poker session, one guy even called my river check raise on a paired board with a 10 high flush.

My local card room is in Phoenix, AZ.

There are bad players everywhere...you just have to know how to spot them.

I think it's easier to spot the recreational poker player in vegas than in the near-by Native American Casinos near me.

I typically average about 1-1.5 buy-ins profit between the two casinos near me. In Vegas, I've always been able to make enough $$ playing 1-2 to pay for my whole trip(a week's stay....three different times). I make enough to cover airfare, hotel, food, etc and come home with what I arrived with or a little on top.

Games play similar....Just easier to spot the recreational player (tourist).

I can always find a softer game in Vegas. IMO it's has to do with in no particular order

Alcohol - free equals trouble for a lot . At my local casino they charge for all alcohol it limits what people will get themselves into

Tourist who just to gamble - you will find grinders but not so much at the 1-2 games . At my local 1-2 is the only option unless you want PLO or 10-20 limit

Just the shear number of 1-2 tables you have access to with in a 10 min cab ride or 15 min walk makes it easy to walk away when you see half the table is 300-400 BB deep or just don't like the vibe

Familiarity breeds ( oh IDK) but I have to keep changing up my game at the local which at times gets me in trouble but in Vegas ill never see any of these guys again. My moves/ quirks / and what ever tells I have are new and I my take time for some to pick up on this

I have a small sample size in Vegas but found the games extremely softer than my local games here in Cleveland area. I played 8 hours total on a Tues morn. And a wed. night and paid for my whole 4 day trip plus a couple hundred.

This is great -- if I can find it in real time, it will be my standard go-to answer every time someone asks about 1-2 games.

I find turkeys at local card rooms and in Vegas, but in general the Vegas turkeys buy in for 200-300 at 1/2 and are willing to reload several times. The local turkeys are more often short buys and leave after their first or second $100 is gone.

Makes sense... people save up for a trip to Vegas, but don't really think to save up for a night at the local poker room.

reg-infested vegas games are generally worse games to be in on average, but vegas games on the whole are better because you have other options if a particular game is bad

while other cities have rocks that just want to grind out their $2 per hour comp, it seems to be more pervasive there

I'm going to Vegas in September with about 9 other poker players. We might make a blogg about our encounters. We will also rate some of the rooms(we will probably be playing only a few rooms; the ones that give us the best poker deals).

Keep up!

This actually explains a lot about the difference between the venues. Well played
