How much should I tip the dealer and the wait staff? How much should I tip the dealer and the wait staff?

I really couldn't help myself in making this thread.

I usually throw a five if the pot is over a hundred. And I tip my waitress five if I'm drunk. Of course, I'm not there to make money. Poker is fun.

here's a post on the subject which I totally agree with:

(fwiw he plays 5/10 so it's easy to tip 1$ for winning the blinds

eh I tip super different if I feel strongly one way or the other about a dealer. The ones who are grumpy, slow, and don't know the basic rules of the game are lucky to get $1 if I win a stack whereas the ones who are friendly, deal quickly, are always in control, etc. are typically getting $1 even if I just win the blinds.

Dealer gets a buck unless it's just the blinds. But here's where I lucked out:

At Casino Arizona the reg wait staff serves all drinks and they are NOT hot. I'm saving a bundle compared to my trips to LV!

You tip hot ones more? This ain't a strip club. I drink a LOT (mostly water) and they come in these little 8 ounce bottles. I usually order 4 at a time just to only have to tip once .

i bet you open fold 44 utg too you nit

11-11-2011 , 11:28 AM
.. Of course you tip hot one's more. It encourages them to lean over further when handing you your drink.

No flop, no tip.

Win a pot, tip $1.

Bust a shortstack or double up on shortstack, $2.

Boom headshot someone for a full stack, $3.

"Oh my god you just won a 500bb pot", $5

I use this foolproof system for 5/10 and 2/3NL.

Nice, but what about your hot waitress?
11-11-2011 , 09:03 PM
When I'm in Vegas I just tip a dollar for drinks.

My local cardroom doesnt have waitresses (dry cardroom), they have foodrunners and I tip them the same % that I would tip a pizza delivery person (20%ish the cost of whatever they are getting). Unless it's just a can of soda or something, then I don't tip because I can just get that myself.

I don't tip male and ugly dealers so I can save money to overtip the cute ones.

Lol. Jk.

But if I was single.....

$1 per post-flop pot. Very occasionally $2, if the pot is particulary large.

In split-pot games I'll tip a buck if I scoop or win the high half.

Dollar per drink.

Food service gets tipped like they were regular waiters: 20% of menu price, whether or not it's comped or discounted because of the game I'm playing.

Tip whatever the hell you want. Stiff if you want. It's your decision.

However, those who choose to partake in this socially accepted shared burden of compensation, the following is a wonderful standard that leaves everybody happy:

What, when, and how you tip is your business. But that's a good guide, if it's something you want to do.

More importantly, don't be a jerk. Follow the action. Notice if the dealer seems to keep slowing down or having difficulty with your bets or cards. Notice if others seem to keep pausing to make sure you do or do not have cards, or to see who's on the other side of your forearms. Fix that, and the dealers will be happy.

Never been but Google images has this

for 'Borgata waitress'.

Maybe 6 on the OOT scale but far better than what we get at Casino Arizona. She's worth an extra $ every now and then.

We don't even get the Budweiser Girls even though I think they're free.

Ya. Often. And at the table in PLO games where the dealer keeps things moving because it is rare.

Do this also. And never more than $1 if I'm losing, no matter how big the pot is.

I was much more generous before I started reading these threads, and understanding how much of an impact it has on your bottom line btw.

Here's where my tipping policy gets debatable:

(1) Where I regularly play, chip runners get tips from dealers for fills. I don't tip chip runners for bringing chips, unless they are doing a relatively unusual transaction, such as coloring me up, or printing up a voucher from the player's bank. (In actual practice, since I keep my immediate bankroll in the player's bank, I wind up tipping chip runners routinely.)

(2) Tipping is for service workers. Floorpeople are line managers, not workers. I don't tip managers, so I don't tip floorpeople.

Clarify this please.

I tip a dollar every time the dealer pushes me a pot, no matter what. The discretion I use is on blind steals or half pots where I don't make any money. In those situations, I tip good dealers a buck if I steal the blinds, but stiff the bad dealers.

I tend to order more drinks from hot waitresses. Indeed, there have been times when I wanted a drink, but when I found out we had the ugly girl, not the hot one, I decided to pass. No need to encourage them to keep working there.

Alan:
Does your access to good games get impaired by not tipping floor staff?
11-13-2011 , 01:29 AM
do you tip the waitress more if she's got a whaletail?
11-13-2011 , 01:32 AM
@DiggertheDog: my 2c ... everytime I make a table change I tip these guys. If i see a table I want to play at I usually get into that game with relative ease. I don't know if it's because i tip them regularly but I'd like to think so. I usually tip a few bucks fwiw.

Natural selection at its finest. I concur. I tip good dealers as they switch if I don't win a pot during that rotation. Encourage speed, enthusiasm, command of the table, etc.
