I think this gets more calls than staying silent.
Unfortunately where I play, a player can show his hand when heads up.
Can be quite useful to get a read if you are the one tanking though...

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I never show. When someone asks I say never.

Similar, Lastnight I was playing a live tournament and someone folded, then showed their hand (Bottom pair on the flop) and asked "Did you have me?" and I said "Maybe" he then proceeded to get angry "You can just be a man about it and admit if I had you" to which I replied "No, I prefer not telling you because it tilts you, and by the way there is no way to know if I "Had you" considering there were more cards to come, but heres one (flip a 7, no relevance to board) now use your imagination"

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

$1/$3 weekly home game, average buy-in $200, stakes all players can easily afford. Frequent rabbit-hunting, a practice I deplore. Occasional "Will you show." Less occasional, "Show me." Soon after I join, the best player says, "Here's $5 to show." I am impressed. Yer man shows. He has not asked/offered again. This week, I am the table captain, triple my buy-in, go to show-down only once, early. Asked to show by the one regular who customarily annoys me, I give him a look of disappointment, followed by an offer to disclose for $5. He declines. Soon after, I reference our original $5 man and my admiration for his relative manhood. Mr Annoyance is also customarily in charge of the music. He solicits the table's opinions. Mine is strongly unfavorable. Yer man offers to change it up for $5. My chip is in the air before he can complete the thought.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I played in a home game tournament ($30 BI, usually about 30 players) where they gave you a lammer that you could use one time to see any hand. Rules were that it had to go to the flop, and you had to have been in the hand at the flop to use the lammer. I thought it was a marginally interesting twist to the home game. Watching who used their lammers for what hands against which players was more interesting to me than anything actually shown.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I don't talk when I'm in a hand, whether I just made my bet or I'm facing a bet. I don't respond to questions either. Just the way I play. Occasionally I'll mutter as I'm folding, but at that moment I'm out of the hand. (I only play MTTs.)

I do make it a point to occasionally tell someone one-on-one (away from the table) after I bust or they bust what I had, and I'm very honest. However, one time I specifically told this douchey guy (he was a d-bag not just to me, but to the entire table) out loud after he asked me if I'd show and he folded after no response, as I raked the pot: "I'll tell you what I had... after you BUST." Not a particularly shocking statement, but considering the source (quiet kid who hadn't said anything other than fold/raise/call in ~2 hours) and the mood at the table (anti-dbag guy), it brought a moment of shock followed by rousing cheers and chatter among the players. Even the dbag guy said something like "Nice play" or "I like you kid" to save face a little bit.

I never talk in a hand. If I'm HU with the guy next to me and he is asking me stuff, I just stare at the felt. I don't respond to anything verbally or non verbally. This usually drives them nuts and sometimes they call me out of spite. i'm usually not bluffing so thats gravy for me. I don't know how many times I've heard "Fine...won't talk? I call!"

I'll show you and we will mark this as your "one time" . Also , I will have my one time whenever I want.

It's good if you want to obtain information later.

This is also a slightly less appropriate musical response. The first 20 seconds, anyway.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

Just tonight I was playing in a 1-1 NL game when a player asked me on the river "will you show me if I fold."

I replied, "I might."

He folded.

I threw my cards in face down and said "I only said I might."

I think the best option when asked is to simply remain silent. That way your opponent falls victim to his own missteps in thinking. Has a lot to do with psychology. A lot of times we try to convince ourselves that our opponent's behavior means our understanding of the situation is correct, when in reality it's not. Basically, we convince ourselves he's using reverse psychology lol.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I feel like when people ask me to show, I more often then not have it. I think its because I'm really putting much pressure on a guy when it seems like he has a strong hand. I generally will say nothing but there are some time when I might say no because I'm convinced if I say yes he will fold and I have it.

Mum poker has many benefits. Before, during and after hands.

One humorous moment. I saw a hand at a small $1/$2, 2 players were all-in on the flop for a small amount, player 3 is a reg and 4 is a new player, player 3 ends up betting the river. Player 4 asks, "Will you show if I fold?" The reg tanks then says "no," I thought it was funny.

Guy kept asking me this the other day at a 1/1. My answer stayed the same: 'I'll show you if you call'-he never did.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

Does anyone ever ask "will you show?" when you are holding the nuts? I did this the other day after the villain had bet into me on all 3 streets at a 1/2 game. He bet almost half pot and I sat and tanked for almost a minute then asked if he would show if I folded. He said yes, so after "thinking" a little more I said ok I raise. He was so confused that he called with only middle pair.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

When people ask me this question I usually just continue staring at the felt or let my eyes wander around depending if they continue to stare at me to try to gain info.
I almost never show except at showdowns so it's just standard I'm not going to show my hand to give info.

The only times I show is if I'm in a pot with someone at the table I'm friends with who already knows how I play in a situation that will benefit me by having other players giving me respect by my play if they're on the level where they would pick up on those types of things if they're paying attention.

I've never tried it, but I'm considering: "Will you fold if I show?"

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

First ever post btw

Was playing in a tourney in the local casino 2 nights ago, I'm in the BB, action folds all the way to the SB who is aggro and the table chip leader. He raises just over half my stack. I think for 7 seconds and go all in.

He asks will you show if I fold

I try and think of a witty answer but in the end I just end up nodding and saying yes

He snap folds

I show 66

He didn't show and told me he was holding AJ off suit. Lies.

Shouldntve showed anything in hindsight, from now on they'll just get the silent treatment. Finished the tourney in 6th and villain bubbled.

If it's a cash game I say the same thing every time:

"I'll show you for $___"

So at 1/2 I usually charge like 5 or 10 bucks depending on the size of the pot. If they ***** about it:

"lessons aren't free"

people usually just get so worked up they just fold and pay anyways.

Of course this won't work more than once against the same players ...if I'm wanting a fold, "I will show if you show" seems to convey strength.
