Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I was at Foxwoods a couple months when there was nearly a fist fight over this question. I was not in the hand, but the guy to my left had made a big bet on the river into a decent size pot. The guy on my right says "will you show if I fold?", to which the other guy is caught off guard by the question and replies "maybe". The guy that asked the question had been losing and was clearly tilting and proceeds to freak out. He says "Maybe?!? what the F*** do you mean MAYBE?!?!". The other guy says he was kind of caught off guard by the question and was not sure what he would do if he folded to his bet. It escalated quickly and they both stood up and were screaming at each other. The guy eventually folded and the other guy mucks his hand and says '"F*** YOU PAL". I guess moral of the story is, if you want the guy to fold then reply "maybe"?

"I'll show em if you fold"
Pot gets pushed to you
"Nah, I can't show you this one, maybe next time"

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

A lot of you guys seem to be trying to get too cute with your answers and are giving away just as much information as if you just responded normally (if not more information).

I have two answers:

1 - If the game is higher stakes, or I feel the players at the table can take information from the response, I simply say "maybe".

2 - If the game is low stakes and the table is, generally speaking, unable to pick up information, I say "$5 per card, and it can come from anyone on the table", or whatever price I decide to set. Someone asking this question generally wants to fold anyway, so I'm aiming for a profit. I've easily made a couple hundred $ that I wouldn't have made otherwise.

If you attempt to make any sort of witty or sarcastic reply, it absolutely must fit with your table personality. If you are the quiet, stoic type at the table, don't use a witty reply. If you're the loudmouth who talks every hand, don't suddenly go stone cold quiet. That's when the good players can pick up the tells.

Again, don't overthink it. Just keep your answers consistent.

I usually just say "I'm not answering that" and that's the end of it.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

The person asking the question is trying to get information from you, so if you're a good player and have some feel of what he has and what he wants you to do, and what would be the response to have him do what you want, it's a good opportunity to angle him back.

Wear headphones u don't have to be playing music. Ignore them and stare at the dealer button until you go cross eyes works for me when bluffing and value Betting.. Doesn't work so well when villain is cross eyed and on the button

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

just keep it friendly in general and don't overthink it bc usually the asker wants to fold or they'd have called already and they don't ask u this w the nuts. I often tell em "this is pay per view" or i deflect w "I got a monster." could mean a monster bluff tho, or "yes." "I will show u 1 card" etc. i don't get too greedy in this spot and don't try to manipulate and have to think of leveling answer. usually they are looking to fold and usually I don't have super strong hand and saying I will show keeps the game moving, and friendly and lets them fold to guarantee me the pot.

Yes, but I shall require you to place your betting discs into the middle of the playing surface.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

My response is, "Sorry, I never show".

In fact, I go one step further, when this happens and I'm not even in the hand. After the hand I tell the table "Hey, just so you guys know, I never show so don't bother asking me"

for me, if its a friendly game ill show. if it goes with my table image ill show. 9/10 times though no. most of the time i dont say anything when asked. i tend to get a little excited and speaking definitely shows it.

In the running for dumbest thing ive heard. Keep it on the middle school playground.

Aside from ridiculing you, doing things like that are bad for the game and for keeping fish happy.

Indeed, and I don't do **** like that, I was just giving an example of something someone had done on the day.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

Exactly. Half the people here seem to react like "ZOMG he's trying to play Jedi mind tricks on me what do I do" or get personally offended. I LIKE it when the opponent asks me that. It means he doesn't know what to do, and more importantly, he's TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO BASED ON MY RESPONSE. What can be better than that?

I always want to say "You can decide", but never can remember when the time comes so I just do the safe thing and say nothing.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I can usually tell if they really want to fold by how they ask and just are curious and if I'm bluffing I usually say nicely yes and they fold and I show them the bluff.

Remember if they ask they usually have only a hand strong enough to beat a bluff.

So, if I have a strong hand I will act in a way to encourage a call...

Like "Sounds like you have a weak kicker" (when I'm really strong) hoping they have like two weak pair or top pair strong kicker.

I sometimes ask the dealer "can I just show him/her?"

When the dealer says no (which they always will) I shrug and say "sorry, can't do it".

I think this gets more calls than staying silent.

I came up with a new response that I use uniformly regardless of whether I am bluffing or valuebetting.

If you fold, I will show for $5. If you call, I will show for free. Already collected about $150 this year lol.

Re: How do you reply to Will You Show If I fold?

I find the majority of people that ask, are lose/bad players and are most likely leaning to folding. And talking about the hand to the villian when he/she is facing a bet signals strength, so i just keep my mouth shut when i want a call hoping he talks himself into calling.
