It may not affect how you play, but it could cost you money down the road.

If somebody wants to see my cards, they need to pay me to see them. Most of the time, when I make a river bet, I want to be called.

There are plenty of players out there that want to see what you have and if you make a reasonable bet, they will call you (which is what you want if you have them beat). If you build up the reputation of being a shower, you won't get those river calls like "well, I'm beat but I wanna see what you have".

don't talk during hands

"I;m not gonna answer that"

When I first started playing, I was faced with a river bet from a quiet, friendly player while holding top pair, weak kicker. He could tell I was hemming and hawing over the decision and said to me, "I'll show you", to which I erred on the side of caution and folded only to have him show me K high. Doh!!

More often than not, when someone has said this to me, they have shown a strong hand, but this guy got me to fold best hand. wp..

I'll show him something, but probably not my cards..

I did this too a nervous looking asian kid.. he folded i showed him queen high and took down the pot. I would never usually do this... it is the same way the other way around, most the time I wouldn't say anything but if there is something I have picked up about the psycology of the player i'm playing against I wiill use it. This type of thing is my strength and why i am so much better at live and seem to suck online so its not for everyone and the best response would be to just say nothing.

Show what?

i just flat out say no. Best answer to give.

Tho if i had quads or a funny hand i would maybe show (after saying no)

My room must be in an alternate universe

99.9999% of the time "yeah i'll show" brings a 4 second pause and a fold. I dont think I've ever seen someone call after they get told they can see the hand

It probably speaks of the quality of my room (being poor) but most of the time people are asking genuienly because they have a hard choice and want to know the answer without paying the fee

I always do a little uhhh yeah alright i'll show if Im bluffing, If I have it I always keep quiet. A decent player will pick this up eventually but a decent player wouldnt ask and if/when they do I guess I'll have to react considering I know all my previous responses

I've been a fan of telling someone "I'll show if you fold" if they're thinking but I generally only do this when I know I have them beat and they think I might be bluffing. Maybe it's just where I play but I find that works most of the time against fish who think they're pros.

I have experimented with some answers. I have found that:

"I'll let you choose one." Tends to trigger a call. I originally thought that this would induce a fold, since you're making it a game. But I think it actually triggers some suspicion in the Villain's mind, and tends to get the call.

"No." Tends to induce a fold unless the person wan't to "call just to see."

When bluffing, I usually say nothing, or "I don't want to answer to give you a read, but I almost always show a hand, because I don't see the big deal." This usually gets them to fold, and then I show.

Thoughts?

Them (to you): "Will you show if I fold?"
You (to dealer): "Time!"

No matter what the ooutcome, if you show aren't you giving away a tell or strategy?

Generally speaking if someone asks "will you show?", actually giving them info is meaningless--they are weak/bad players. Any info you give them won't be used against you, they'll still play as they always do.

True, but what about others at the table who may actually be able to use the information?
07-31-2012 , 01:35 PM
That's where your reading & changing gears abilities need to kick in. If you can spot someone good enough to use that info, then use your read on them to switch it up when you're up against them.

If you're not confident enough to do that, then just don't show when the fish ask you to. It comes down to your comfort zone: don't get fancy, play smart.

What about to the rest of the table?

I answered that one post above yours.

Serious answer:

My reply is totally player dependent, and also depends on their perception of you. Against beginner/amateur players (level 1), if I want them to fold I say "yes, I'll show" and hold my cards like I'm ready to flip them over. This usually gets them to fold. If I want them to call I slowly shake my head.

Against better players (level 2) I usually do the opposite especially if THEY think I'm a level 1 player.

Against good players I either don't answer or it depends on what has been transpiring during the session.

I'll show for X dollars.

(amount to call)
08-10-2012 , 09:58 AM
I mostly reply that I rarely show. BTW I rarely show if some folds except in the case where a opponent I play with a lot and I respect folds a big pot and shows their cards. This happens about once or twice a month.

Fold and carry on or Call and ship the chips over here.

A simular situation is when someone asks " do you want me to call ?!?" . It's often the question of real time waisting hollywood types. A dude who fits this description asked me "do you want me to call ?!?"(I shipped my remaining $50 into about a $300 pot otr) to which I replied "I want you to hurry up, that's all I want ! NOW HURRY UP !!" I did it in a jokey kind of way and everone laughed including him. Anyhow incredibly he stopped pissing about after that and played with an agreeable flow. It's nice when it all works out
