Have i played this badly? Have i played this badly?

Hey,
the limits are 25c 50c, 5 players its getting late.
So the other day at a local home game i was faced with the following situation.
I am UTG with KJ, i raise to $3 and i get 3 callers. The board comes down J 7 3, i check the flop, 2nd to act leads into the pot for $15. I decide to move all-in for an extra $104.75. He calls and rolls A8, and rivers the backdoor flush....
Is me shoving bad? Is him calling bad?
He believes that the only hands that shove on this board is a stone cold bluff.
Josh.

Why are we shoving flop? Villan known to lay down flush draws? Does he call off stacks with <TP mid kicker? Otherwise as played with little detail/history and no reads it looks like a bingo match....

ask a better question recieve a better answer....

of course his call is way loose...showing a little pot control would maybe help....but again need more history/reads....

The player in question has been known to call off his entire stack with marginal hands at best pre-flop and known to often play hyper aggressive after being checked too. So how would i approach pot control in this situation?

if this is THAT kind of player then wp, he just got lucky....you got him to call with way the worst of it...these slight edge high variance plays go both ways sometimes...

You have to wait til you have a monster to think about shoving flop against these kinds of players who will think you're full of it. If not a monster then a decent hand that can improve, KJ suited with top pair ain't it. Hate the shove, the guy is a total donkey for calling with ace high no kick.

Was this the last hand of the night or last orbit? I play in a .25/.50 home game where people do the dumbest things once its clear the game is about to end. That's a huge leak and will wipe out hours of solid play.

It was a good move. You were 84% to win as played and still better than 50% if he had something like a flush draw and a gutshot or overcard. You got all the money in with the best hand. Long term this is what makes a winning player.

That is a very very poor way to look at poker. Instead, think about expectation.

Our opponent could call with a whole range of hands, from ace-high or a draw to a monster like a set. But if he's likely to put you on a bluff, as he seems inclined to do, and try to snap you off with any part of his range ace-high or better (pocket pairs, bottom pair, middle pair), then this is a hugely profitable shove.

You may not enjoy stacking off for $100 a hand all the time, and you might pass up profitable opportunities as a result. But you must realize this is a HUGELY profitable shove against anyone who stacks off this light.

He'll figure it out and stop eventually, but spiking his BDF will postpone that because he'll associate his horrible style of play with that time he backdoored a flush. So, nh.

I would agree with AKQJ10. Don't you as a player want this call everytime? Just because it didn't work out this time, you're going to get paid off most of the time here right?
