Advice from grinders Advice from grinders

Long time reader and I had an account years ago and forgot the info.

I fear I may be out of work soon. And need help with how to get startied to grind for a living. There is no work around anywhere for what I do and if I'm of of this job I'm screwed.

I need any advice and what limits for hold em. Maybe middle or no limit small stakes. Bankroll management, buy in amounts etc. I knew all these specifics before when I was more involved in the poker community.

I would be going to Foxwoods, Mohegan sun, or take the bus to AC so the idea is to play 6 hrs a day for the bus stay allows and I need to win 250 x 5 days to cover the bus fares and make what I was to support my family. I know its not an easy way to make a living like they make it seem on TV that all these 20 year old pros but I'm 32 and have a professional license and career and there just isn't any work out there as it is.

This is a last resort cause unemployment won't cut it and I won't get it anyway cause I work 2 jobs now anyway and I would still have my second job but its part time only.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance

The types of questions you are asking suggest that this is a really really really bad idea and you should re-evaluate.

I can understand that you're under alot of stress, but these are fish questions and what you are suggesting could **** up your life so be careful.

You'd need like 6 months living expenses and 20 buyins, always buy in full to maximize your winrate and you would probably have to game select rather than play 6 hrs a day.

In any case, terrible, terrible, terrible idea. Those 20 year old kids have probably been playing for years and knew more about poker as teenagers than you do now.

In any case, good luck.

1) don't do it

2) if you plan on making your expenses it's a bad idea. for risk of ruin to be less than a long-term lock you need expected bankroll growth.

3) short days are a poor use of time. travel time/expenses, time waiting for a seat is significant. you'll get more money for your time with 10+ hour sessions.

4) don't do it

The OP already started a similar thread earlier today which was moved to the Beginner's room...I guess he didn't like the answers he was being given there either.

What do you mean how to get started? Just go and play whatever limit you can beat using whatever bankroll management you won't go broke with.

lol at your response to CBorders in your other thread, after seeing that I the best option is to move to Canada and play online

if you are asking these questions, you are so far away from being a professional poker player. I know this may sound a little harsh but there are great poker players who are light years ahead of your experience and knowledge who are also asking themselves if they're ready to play for a living yet. Right now it will not be too much different if you wanted to play craps for a living.

I advise you to find a job first, even if you have to change careers, then continue to learn how to be a consistant winner at poker. If you jump into it right now because you have to, you will probably never come back to it and who knows, maybe in a few years you WILL be playing for a living.
