That's not too surprising for the midwest. One problem with Iowa/Kansas/Oklahoma/etc is they are somewhat insular. The folks who work in those rooms may have never worked in any large poker market, and may not interact with the more avid of poker fans very much.
In Vegas, 2+2 and AVP are recognized as free advertising and rumor-central, and are pretty well known among poker dealers and floors. But it still varies across the spectrum. Older staff tend to be more "yeah, I've heard of that--that's some online thing, right" while the younger staff are more likely to be "yeah, didja see that thread in B&M about the ruling at MGM where the floor..." And I've spotted a couple floors browsing 2+2 while on the clock in the poker room (not all poker rooms let the staff web surf from the poker room computer, but some do).
I mention B&M to new Vegas floor people when they're a little fuzzy on rulings and are asking privately after the fact "did I get that one right?" They don't have to participate, but they should be reading every word RR writes.

Just look at the rooms in the Poker Venues sub-top over on the other side. It's all Northeast, Florida, Vegas, Cali, and the random big rooms like Hammond and WinStar. Little podunk room in no man's land that has 8 tables with 3 games a night isn't really gonna have staff that's versed deeply in 2+2isms or poker happenings.
