Has anyone had any experience of playing the cash game at the Sportsman casino on a Friday night?

I went there one Friday night when there was a massive donkament on at the vic. The cash game was £1/£3 and was the weakest game I've ever played in London. People were sitting with stacks ~£1500 and were generally awful. Left with a nice tidy profit.

Within the next few weeks I will be looking to play in my first live game. I would lke to play in a cheapish tournament £20-£50 and then some of the lower stake cash games.

Im thinking of going to either the Vic or Empire and was hoping that someone could answer a few questions for me. What would be the best casino for me to play in as a beginner?? Which are the softest cash games?? What are the lowest stake cash games available?? Finally, are most of the tables dealer dealt??

Thanks in advance for any replies..

well when i went they had 2 1/2s running and a 1/3 but i was stuck at a table of regulars who all knew each other.
A 20£ rebuy was running which attracted a fair amount.

let me no how it is on a sunday down there

Haven't been to the Sportsman in ages, but they used to have high-stakes action on friday nights fed by the £100 rebuy donkament which was super popular among the local degens. Didn't know they spread £1/£3, worth checking out.

In the meantime I hear the new room at the Barra is regularly spreading a sick big game, £100/£200 or thereabouts.

if you are thinking about a meet up then The International would be happy to host a 2+2 night. Not sure what you would want and what sort of numbers but I am sure we can assist by way of a buffet or drinks reception if the numbers are significant enough.

For more info on the club please go to www.theintclub.com

Next week will be my first time in London. Which casino/cardroom would be the best to play some NL? Do they have any good daily tournaments?

Dont know much about tournaments best bet is to just phone the cardroom.

Cash is good at Vic/Empire/international for plo I think. (vic and empire are both 24).

if you want to play 5/10+ you wanna go to the vic.

vic (0207-298-2411)
empire (0203-014-1000)

Am I just being sentimental or does anybody else think fondly of the basement at Russell Square with Roy Houghton running the show.

Was that the good old days or not?

Anyone know what the dress code is for the Vic? I turned up today and was told I couldn't go upstairs with my bag (fair) or wearing a hoody. But I could wear a baseball cap. On going upstairs, I immediately noticed at least 2 people sitting at poker tables in hoodies, and I'm pretty sure I have done in the past.

ps, i don't sit there with hood, cap + sunglasses concealing my face and think i'm a star in the 1/3 game, i just happened to be wearing a particularly comfortable top with a hood on it tonight.

pps the 1/3 game was incredibly soft (moreso than when i've played there before), unfortunately wasn't able to stay long

Vic: You have to put bags in the cloakroom, and cant wear caps in the casino but you can at the poker table itself. Other than that people seem to wear anything they want. Hoodies are or at least were completely fine. Think I was there last week in one?

Which would be the softest game at the Vic? The rake is high. I'm not sure if this is the norm in Europe.

Every Day No Limit Hold'em £200 £1,200 £2 - £5 £7 - 30min charge
Every Day No Limit Hold'em £120 £600 £1 - £3 £6 - 30min charge
Every Day No Limit Hold'em £80 £400 £1 - £2 5% rake £15 cap

1/3 most likely. just game select if you can afford to play higher. 1/2 rake plays very nitty and reggy I dont like it.

Hey where in general are the best value donkaments in London, taking a trip up there in the summer and just want to play a few soft tournies (if there are any)? I will still probably head to the Vic for a bit of cash near the end of my trip.

I just finished a £1-£2 NL session at Empire. Card dead and jet lagged most all night but there are some favorable spots there. It looks like the room catches a lot of tourists. Killer rake though. I'm hoping to check out the Vic tomorrow. Are there any other poker rooms worth visiting beside empire and vic?

Played at the Empire a few days ago. On either side of me were horrid people , talking about win-rates, berating the fish, thinking it was in their right to talk about the hands in process when they've folded then almost starting a fight when they were told they were out of line. They also talked about 2+2, I really hope they read this and realise what complete fools they looked like.
Even so, Empire was alright.
Went to the Int, much nicer atmosphere, friendly people.

I went to the vic a few weeks ago on a wednesday night (from midnight - 6am), and all the cash games were dealer dealt. I'm not sure if this is the case all the time but I hope so. The 1/1 game is a 10% rake £5 max, and I believe the 1/2 and 1/3 games are 5% rake. There were 2 tables of 1/1 running, but around 2.30am there was only 1 as people hate playing shorthanded.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there's free parking anywhere around the empire, I'm going on tuesday night and need a place to park for free. Otherwise i'll just go to the vic.

Not a London regular but was visiting and played at the G Casino in Leicester Square on Thursday night....

Super-tiny casino but they have one table of £1/£1 NLHE in the pit on a blackjack type table with 10% rake. 8 players crowded around was a bit too cozy but game was pretty fishy. One decent player, one semi-decent player one nit and the rest fish.
