Eagles 3512 has up to $10 rake? Seems excessive. Is the high hand an every hour thing?

If in Indy, is Hammond that much better than Cincinnati? Seems to be about 2.5 hr vs 2 hrs.

My trip is coming up.

1. Wondering if anyone knew specifics for July 5th Saturday with respect to the American Legion games or the like close to downtown indy.

2. Any advice on Horseshoe Cincy versus Horseshoe Southern Indiana. I am a low roller, and like to play well structure tournies. I am not rolled to play the Saturday $400 event, even though I am sure the structure is solid. I mainly want to just play for 6+ hours, prefer LIMIT since I am only bringing about $300.

3. Any other advice also appreciated with respect to venue.

Cin or Columbus oh better than southern Indy

Hammond is 2.5 hours north, another option

Hammond being next to Chicago has a deep player pool and has some high quality play.

Haven't been to Cin. Or Columbus Ohio both are about the same distance from Indy but Cincinatti seems to be better run.

Lawrenceburg used to have a good room but years of crappy indifferent service combined with competition led to people deciding to stay home in Cincinnati and Columbus once casinos opened there...

Horseshoe Southern Indiana runs 3/6 LHE tables on a regular basis. There are days when they have up to 3 tables running at a time. Lots of 1-2 and 2-5 action there also. Nice room on a non-smoking level of the boat.

Check out Hollywood Lawrenceburgs Tourney Schedule! Online Bravo Poker. The room has declined a whole lot especially their cash game tables, but they have a decent low rent tourney or two every day. Might be what you are looking for.

Yes, I did look there as well, and at first was leaning on Hollywood. The 15 min levels concerned me, especially if the blind levels double every time. Thanks for the tips.

Hollywood starts $5K guarantee tournaments this weekend. Friday night 7:15 - $130 Green Chip Bounty, Saturday 4:15 - $100, 6000 starting chips. All Hollywood tournaments have an optional $10 dealer toke for an additional 2000 chips (paid at cage when regging). All tournaments allow re-entries through the 1st break.

I think Friday is still 25 minute levels & will have antes, Sat. 4:15 is changing to 20 minutes, no antes. They also have an 9:15 on Saturday night for $80+$10 dealer toke, 20 minute levels, 35-50 runners usually. The structures at Hollywood are actually pretty decent for a local daily tournament.

If you come down this Saturday look me up, I'll be there for both.

If you just want to play cash, go to Horseshoe Cincinnati!!!!!

Great info beef, thanks.

My schedule is probably more during the day time hours. My non-poker traveling companions will be busy 8a-6p Friday/Saturday in Indy. The evening tournies look right up my alley. I will hope to get to the Thurs 715p (which is the same day we arrive in Indy, so who knows).

Playing at Knights of Columbus on the northside of Indy (keystone and 71st) is your best action game available in Indy. They have 1-2NL and 2-5NL. Both games play quite large. Max buy-ins begin at 200 and 500 I believe. However, they also use the 75% of large stack rule, so I have seen someone buy-in with $6000+ at the 2-5 game. I have set quite a few nights when the 2-5 game became a mandatory 2-5-10 game.

They play Monday and Wednesday from noon to midnight.

Thanks for the extra game, but I was here Thurs/Fri/Sat. Sounds like these games play a bit big for my funds anyways.

I was going to play Hollywood Thursday night (7p) tourney, but I was too tired from driving all day. But my research online suggested it is a well structured daily tourney.

I ended up playing the Horseshoe Cincy all day Friday. I had a great time. Place was perfect for what I was looking for. Great selection of games, and enough to be able to move tables if the vibe was not right. Drive was a bit long from Indy but doable.

I was surprised at the price of alcohol....$5 per drink? Crazy.

Self parking area was well lit, and fairly close to poker room entrance. I did not see a need for valet (but I was also super early and got a spot near the elevator).

I ended up playing the 12n turbo, but that was a mistake. Total crap shoot (probably should have placed $80 on pass line instead).

Also from a non-poker perspective, there were plenty of $10 BJ and $10 Pai Gow tables on a Friday, which I thought was awesome. I did not see any interesting VP games. I always like to put a bit of money into these games, to record so extra Tier points.

I did not want to travel far on Saturday, so I checked out Danville American Legion. Nice folks (actually super nice)...., but I would not go back for the poker. Level 1 = 100/200 Level 2 = 200/400 Level 3 = 400/800...nuf said.

If anyone in or around Indy is playing, I ran into a kid at a local game with a solid schedule for 1-2 (occasional 2-5 and some PLO) action every day of the week.

Mon: Knights of Columbus Northside Noon-midnight
Tues: American Legion Greenwood 6-midnight
Weds: Knights of Columbus Northside Noon-midnight
Thurs: American Legion Greenwood 6-midnight
Friday: Knights of Columbus Southside 6 PM Fri-12 AM Sun
Sat: See Above
Sun: Eagle's Lodge Lebannon Noon-Midnight

I met him at the Thurs game and am going to check out all the other games in the coming week(s). If there's interest in a meetup or reviews, let me know.

+1 - just what I've been looking for. Definitely interested in any reviews - I'll post mine when I get around to playing at any of them.

Thompson and 31. Just south of 465.

All the games are legal and from what I gear pretty good. I can't play the weekend due to a commitment but I'll be making the rounds starting Monday.

Not that I'm aware of butbim sure there out there. Best bet is to show up at games you know of and ask them. It's almost a lock that you'll find someone that "Plays at the lodge on Tues/Thurs" or something.

Anyone know if Tuesday nights at the Legion is strictly tourney play?
Indianapolis, IN Quote

From what I understand, Tues starts with a tourney then the cash game breaks out. I've been told it's sort of "bad form" to show up and wait just for the cash game, but I'm not sure how true that is.

Given that these games are legal but sort of "informal", I like to be careful to avoid pissing people off.

So I played in the NorthEast side KoC game tonight.

The set-up:
The game is run in a large event hall. The tables are not uniform but almost all are mid-grade poker tables with a cushioned rail and decent felt. Games are 1/3, 2/5, some PLO and a 2-7 triple draw game was going.

Chips are pretty crappy generic clays that are really dirty, cards are Copegs.

Most dealers were courteous and competent but one woman, Frankie maybe (a thinner black woman who wears a baseball cap) was awful. She would insult players frequently and spent a fair amount of time texting during hands (not kidding). In fairness to her she claimed to be sick and that her texting was about a friend in the hospital, but I've never seen anything like it.

The game:
This is a really hard game to rate. Everything about it is very Good news/Bad news. The good news is there are a ton of very bad players*; the bad news is there are also a lot of very good players. Because the game is "underground" (it's a legal game but it's not a place you'd just stumble on without someone telling you), there are a lot of players who are older guys/girls and members of the KoC, and a lot of younger players (21-28ish) that are very solid. This causes the games to play much bigger than they are. The 1/3 game generally opens with $15-25 raises, although some hands are limped by 4-7 people. Post-flop aggression is much more common than you would see at a casino. If there is a cap on the buy-in, I didn't notice it and stacks are generally pretty big.

*This hand is not an example of what every hand is like, but it did happen.
I'm in the CO, 7 handed with about $400
BTN has $100 and straddled for $6
BB has ~$500
MP has ~$1100

SB folds, BB makes it $25, folds to MP who calls, I call, BTN shoves, BB shoves, MP calls, I fold.

BTN-44
BB-AQo
MP-AJo

44 holds up

The look on my face had to be priceless.

The Verdict:
If you live nearby, it's probably worth your time to check out. It runs from 12P-12A and is a winnable game. That said, it's going to leave you much more open to variance than your local home game/American Legion game/whatever, so come prepared.

ATM on site ($3 fee), full bar with a waitress or two roaming around. No tipping allowed although I saw a few players cash out and roll up some bills to slip to dealers on their way out.

$6 max as far as I could tell.

That game was so painful to be card dead in. Any time you could make two pair or better one of two things would happen:
1)Bet all the way down and get paid off
2)Bet twice and check the river which induces an auto-bluff by a lot of older players like 80% of the time.

My third hand I ran KK into AA but every other big hand I made I got paid off on. Just didn't make many of them lol

Played Tuesday at the Legion in Greenwood. $40 Dollar tourney, about 50 people played. 1-2 game broke out after the tourney ($1 rake per hand).

Setup: standard round dining tables through out their banquet hall. Buy-in is to the left as you walk into the hall. 10,000 in chips to start, 15 minute blinds (the whole tourney moves fairly quickly). Table passes dealer duties - whoever deals isn't dealt a hand until its 5 handed at the final table. Chips are standard clay chips.

Type of players: Mix of Nits and extremely passive players. Few people made any moves without having a big hand. Able to build a stack off a lady who couldn't fold top pair, and then tried to call down any bet I made. Any decent tourney player would have a huge edge if they wanted to play a $40.00 buy in suckament.

Cash Game: I somehow placed 4th (tournaments aren't my thing but wanted something to do before the cash game started) , and by that time (10:30 pm) the single table they had going of 1-2 NL was full. From looking at everyone's stacks, many people bout in for $100, a few for $200. Again, hard to judge since I didn't bust the tourney till late.

Recommend?: If you have no where else to play, then sure. But between having to pass the deal, the lack of different games going, having a hard time lifting your cards off the glossy tables and having the "regs" lecture you about how you are playing: I'd say pass on playing here on Tuesday nights.
