I'm sure it was, but before the charities took off you could find a decent home game tournament at least once week with a nice structure.

From about 04-06. Knight of Columbus and Elks Club games. George who used to run Big Beaver used to run tournaments out of The Elks. Then you would have a game out in Macomb in one of the McMansions. Downriver had a club. A guy used to run small weekly and a big monthly tournament for a solid year out of his house near Lakeside Mall.

edit: one of the dealers/floor guys at The River used to run the Macomb monthly. Could fit 60-70 people, would go all night. Tons of parking since it was a new subdivision. Good times

Great showing from east side in the WSOP ME .. especially Canton and Sterling Heights areas.

Met a guy at Venetian that used to own 1 or 2 charity rooms near SH I think .. nice guy and hope he's one of them who made Day 2. Alex B has 3x starting I think as well.

Most of the west siders are around or less than starting .. GL

Hey guys. Yup lots of Michigan guys to root for in this main event. I won my way in through one of America's Card Room's satellites and Salty Dog won via our WSOP league. He and Citizen Game also advanced to day two and are playing today. Hammtown's bud Mike Deis is also in the mix, he bagged 87k I think and will be day twoing it with me tomorrow.

Also lots other Michigan guys that don't post ITT. Would be cool to see one of us make a deep run!

Hi Detroiters,

On Bravo is says that the min buy at Greektown is $50. Is that the standard buy in for most players?

Is that the standard min for the rest of the casinos in Detroit or are the others $100?

I guess it doesn't matter if most buy in for $200 or $300, but I've played in venues where everyone was only buying in for the min before, so wanted to run it by you guys.

Hard to say, sometimes you have a table full of people buying in for the min. Sometimes everyone bought in max and are gambling. It can be a wide mix.

^ Yeh, I'm visitng fam in the Midwest so just browsing around. Out here, I've played in some of the best actiony games that are deep-stacked and some real crappy games w/ no money on the table, and this was even on weekends.

What do you think accounts for the inconsistency?

Alex are you still in?

Gogogo Michigan players! Especially Detroit threaders! Feel free to check in/ update us.

Agree about the home game tournaments, circa 2001-2010. Rake was great. (I remember specifically complaining to a guy that was running one about him taking 10% of the buyins, shame!) Structures were great. Players were worse compared to today.

Tournament poker today is your local charity room where structures are bad in general, rake is 20% + tips... or make the trip to FK or SE for a decent structured tournament.

Side note, the $240 at FK Sunday, they were finishing up around 7 I believe. At 82 runners, that's not the greatest structure either. I know the $400 has longer levels and more chips, but a $240 entry should be a good/great structure too imo.

I haven't observed many min-buyers in the Detroit casinos. Sure, there are some in every room. But there are also a lot of max buy-ins too.

Bravo won't show you the number of tables and players at Motor City, the largest room in town. Call and ask them.

Yep, bagged 140k from 50k starting stack. My day 2 session isn't until tomorrow. Salty just busted unfortunately. He came in today with a short stack and just couldn't get anything going. Citizen Game is still grinding today.

Saw the final table later on when they were down to 4. One was a woman that, early on, called a 3bet of mine w/ K6o, bet into me 3 times on a board of K J1088. I had AK. She made some other questionable plays, but hey, more power to you.
Played their $40 daily this morning. 50 runners! Down to 14. I had a nice stack. Spaz on the button shoves 12ish bbs into my bb. I have AQ. I call, this pot is now for about 1/6 of the chips in play. He has A10, 10 in window gg.
Is there a structure sheet found anywhere for this tourney? I plan on playing it when i go back to MSU in the fall

Yeah, the only min buy ins I see are from obvious bad beat chasers or the guys playing with hopes of getting the hourly giveaways at MGM or Greektown. It's really easy to tell and if they're bad beat chasing, they're basically only playing pairs and it's like playing 8 or 9 handed instead of a full table.

I don't think so. I asked for a physical copy, they didn't have one.

First few levels are 50, 100, 200, 400, 600, 800+100, 1200+100, 1600+200, 2000+?
starting stack 20k. 30 min levels.

They complain that if they print structure sheets that they just end up throwing them away. I don't think that the 120/240/400 have the 'exact' same structure and they seem to tweak them every so often too. Not sure why they wont put a PDF link on their website though ...

The 240 & 400 has one re-entry allowed, whereas the 120 doesn't. The last 400 was a 4 or 5-way chop after 14+ hours of play. So for a 1 day tournament that's about the limit. They were still deep enough to drag it on but chopped. GL

Spotted at least 5 names from Sterling Heights moving on to WSOP ME Day 3 with a couple having pretty good stacks. More Michigan players today with the field combining tomorrow for the long haul ... no more days off until Final Table next Monday/Tuesday. FT is 3 days ending on July 22nd. GL
