I am going to play at the Buckeye Poker Club in Pickerington next week. Hopefully it is a good one. My friends back home recommended it.

Schadenfred is expressing his confusion over why you wouldn't want to play in a game permeated with weak players. If you can't adjust your game to take advantage of this +EV situation, then you sir are the fish.

fwiw when I said that I was on tilt...I have yet to have a losing session in the 6 months I've played there...it is just amazing to watch some of the hands people play there...for example saw a guy call in 1/2 call a raise of $30 with 72off UTG

There will always be individuals who act irrationally for one reason or another. Come to terms that these recreational players will continue to make mistakes and you'll be on the wrong end of the result from time to time. It is what it is, good luck on continuing to mop up the game.

Just curious, if the 72off player is UTG, who's $30 raise is he calling?

And, since they value entertainment > money, if you are nice to them, they'll continue to show up at the same game/table and continually lose, occasionally winning, and you will benefit greatly.

I'd also argue it's not irrational, they just get a high degree of entertainment utility from a night of fun and polite gamboooool amongst adults. That utility is bigger than the dollars lost in the gambooool.

The irrational ones are the ones who claim to be experts at poker while playing ******edly - the ones who overshove with JJ b/c they don't wanna see a flop types. They value the money but play ******edly and seemingly have no desire to improve since they think they've solved the game. But someone limp/calling $30 with 72o? That's a gambooool type.

Anyone else play at Hollywood Lawrenceburg? Thats my regular game and Hollywood is a pretty nice casino. Comps are pretty decent too. $1 an hour for food/bev. Most dealers are good and the place is almost always packed on the weekends and holidays

Been a couple times. I just hate the drive back from Cincinnati. I'm always dead exhausted and once you go past the outlet malls, it sucks bad

And I hate their hotel. It smells like children's tylenol - the cherry chewables..

I Like Hollywood, I try to hit them up every other weekend. Do you all think when the casino in Columbus opens the private clubs will close?

I'm pretty sure that the casino would want to have the private clubs around shut down because its their competition. But the clubs are legal and there isn't any raked pots so I could see them staying open potentially. I don't think that they will stay open long term though. The casino is going to be really nice and I expect the games to be really good for at least the first year or so. The casino is going to be a place that everyone wants to see and take their their girlfriends and see what is looks like. I think that most people in Columbus want to at least go there and check it out.
I'd there will be big NL/PL games on the weekends. As I stated earlier, because it will the "jumpin" place in town for at least the first year, I expect the games will be good even though the rake will be way worse than the private clubs. Fish don't really care about rake anyway and the pros follow the fish, so I expect the private clubs will not be long for this world.
Just hoping that a big PLO game is run on the weekends

I don't see them surviving long. Gemini and Nick's might survive some, because they have a large base.

But having frequented about 8-10 of them over the last several years, the smaller ones just can't pull in a player pool to survive when the casino opens - many have a hard time without it.

Like short says, there's going to be a huge "we goin to the casino!" attitude. That's where everyone will want to go.

The clubs have served their purpose - keeping interest and givin us a place to play, but they just won't be able to survive the casino.

Given Gemini's 1/3 no rake, buy-in % structure, and level of play, I wouldn't go elsewhere when in town.

I frequent Gemini (161 & Cleveland ave) and Nicks (Bethel Rd) when I'm in town. Both have good 1/3 NL cash action which can get pretty deep stacked late at night. Nick's has a decent turnout for tourney's. This past Friday I counted 10 or 12 tables starting for an $85 NLHE.
