GW is not a very well known casino, but there are a few 2p2 lurkers I know of. I thought i'd start a chat thread.

NL Games:
$2/$2 NLH (50bb max)
$3/$5 NLH (100bb max)

i know of maybe 4, not sure how many still post here though.

I lost $250 playing Saturday, it was such a good game too. I only left because I felt I was playing bad. I got it in w. 55 vs A10 vs KJ where I shoved my last $50 (I didnt rebuy because I was leaving) and lost.

I have put in a good number of hours there in the past couple of years. Mostly at the 3/5nl game, but sometimes getting stuck at that terrible 2/2nl game that is not Poker. Played a few sessions of the big game too: either 5/10 or 10/20nl when it was going. I actually prefer to play Omaha than the 2/2nl. They are terrible and the pots are bigger.

Complaints / suggestions: make the 2/2nl a $200 max or get rid of it and spread the 2/3 instead. Increase comps on the players card and/or comp the 3/5 nl game. That game has trouble staying afloat sometimes.....

Btw- I played the 3/5 on wed and fri last week. Was anybody there too?

Lifting the max buyin to $200 is a suggestion ive made many times to the highest levels and it's only ignored. They always say "If you want to buyin for $200 play 3/5" - obviously missing the point that it's not about DOLLARS it's about stack sizes in relation to blinds. $200 in a 1/2 game is different than $200 in a 5/10 game.

Oh well. Why do you say 22 is not poker? Stack sizes or the typical level of play?

The 2/2 game is more like the final table of a tourney where everybody is short stacked. To play profitably , u have to play super tight avoiding paying the rake except with a monster, which I have a really super hard time doing in a low limit game. How can it be correct to fold pocket pairs and certainly connectors in early position......IN A CASH GAME!? Boring poker. No wonder I can't win in that game. Haha.

The reason the casino keeps the buy in low is so that it takes forever to bleed the bad players dry. And assuming they have a job, they can potentially bleed them forever.

What is seriously ridic is when 1 or 2 people limp in and play for a $1 pot. And they don't figure it out that limping is stupid!

I'd love to head over there but playing 50 bb deep is lame and I don't have the bankroll to play 500 responsibly. I guess I'll just keep grinding online for now, hopefully I'll see you there in a couple months axiomtek.

the 3/5 game plays like a 5NL game online, and if you pick the right time to play I think taking a shot with 2BI might be worth it.

I've taken 2 shots w. 1k in my pocket and the first time I broke even, and the second I made $800. It's big money though.

The 22 game is very beatable, you just need to be patient and know how to play 50bb poker. Players are making such giant fundamental mistakes it just takes time for you to exploit it.

Any limit action in this place?

2/4 and 3/6 run 24/7. I'm not a big limit guy though.

i've played 4/8 on occasion (capping blind with T6ss and flopping a flush -- haha), and they have a regular 4/8 omaha 8 game too. a while back i played in an 8/16 lhe game, but i don't think that game is regular. for a stretch, there were some guys interested in mixed games, and we played 10/20 horse one night, and 10/20 omaha hi the next. pretty fun. those days are over though as far as i know.

I wish they just had PLO-HI, the game they run at GW is nuts, its all hi-low split with "kill pots" and all other kinda madness, its just satans game

Ive been playing O8 more. its fun and nice change of pace from 2/2.

but i got finances in order gonna play 3/5 more now.

we played limit omaha hi there in the past. but omaha is normally played either pot limit high, or limit O/8. there is one place that i know of that routinely spreads limit omaha high and that is boulder station in vegas. i prefer the PLO variety myself (it is probably my overall preferred poker game).

one idea i had was to see if the casino has "overs" buttons for the limit games. i played a bit of O/8 with overs at my local card room and it was fun. maybe try to get the old O/8 codgers out of their comfort zone a bit.

maybe after this thread develops a bit, we can point the GW management in this direction to show them that the players want the 2/2nl buy in to be bigger.

management will never do it. I heard somewhere its a CAli law, i dont think any 2/2 game in CA you can BI for 100BB but i could be wrong.

I heard some mixed reviews of aviator. Mainly 1/2 with 40max and 2/3 with 200 max and the big game is on Thursday or Weds? 5/10 right? Heard it was supposed to be 10/25 before that would have been interesting.

Also Omaha HI only played it twice in the evening, i remember went on a heater once and ran a 100 into like 500 in about an hour. but since the business has been done it rarely if ever runs. I dont even think they run O8 in the evenings anymore.

So chilidog the action is better at AViator?

can't really comment yet about the action being better or worse at aviator as i've only just been there for the first time last week.

I stop into GW whenever i can... at least a few times a year.
Love the room. good staff, most of the players ive met are cool - not a lot of meatheads like Commerce... Definitely a pleasant surprise for Bakersfield.

GW is an absolute stop whenever i travel up 99.

Another good room is in Rosamond / Lancaster - Diamond Jims (i guess id call it my home room even though its an hour drive, there isnt much for poker here in Ridgecrest, other than a dive bar game)

Really? I'm skeptical of that because why would 3/5 be 100bb max? So in 1/2 CA law saws 50bb max but 3/5 100? Also, they ran a 5/10 game when Mike Matasow was in town, and he asked if they could change it to 10/20 and they did on the spot, lifted the buyin for like 4k

Also i called the aviator and the max buyin for 1/2 is $40 lol. poverty.

i'm doubtful that there is a california law that states the max buyin for 1/2nl is $100. typically gaming licenses are given by the city / county.

when the big NL game used to go at GW, it would usually be 10/20nl, uncapped. i don't remember if the 5/10 had a cap.

the 1/2nl at aviator probably isn't worth playing but the 2/3nl has a $200 max buy in (and i think a $100 min). also for all you degens, the aviator has no commission blackjack.

then its some kind of county/city regulation.

ive played in quite a few casinos in CA and i cant ever remember seeing a 200 max 1/2 or 2/2 table.

the funny thing is anything over, say 2/3 or 3/5, its almost always 100bb max or more.

maybe i have a skewed perspective since there are a lot of indian casinos near where i live and most of them have reasonable buy ins.

Does Rob ever play there any more? He was the catalyst to get some mixed games going. He won the seat to the NAPT last fall and cashed in it (see poster in the tourney room).
