Is the NJ transit train from 30th St Station to AC running? I'm confused when I check the website. Anybody know?

yes, it is. it's only not listed on the websites list of train lines that are now running, because it was the only one that never stopped.

They never had a $5 poker rate. The poker rate at least used to be something like $79 weeknights and $99 weekends, but I don't recall for sure.

If you were offered a comped room, you had to pay $5 in taxes per night, which I think has been recently increased to $10.

Gotcha. Buddy going with us next week said he heard that but I'd imagined it was a folk tale. Thanks for the info.

Just gathering info for upcoming trip next Sunday. Arriving Sunday around 8am and leaving Monday at checkout. Was planning on playing in the borgata bounty since a guy we are going with is in the riverchasers championships there. But the $1,009 buy in being there means no low buy in tournaments.

So guess gonna play mostly Ballys (where we r staying) and taj and then hit one of the midnight tourneys for a good drunken nightcap.

3. It could jump start that horrible mall in the Meadowlands and make it an entertainment destination.

The only downside is I believe it would put a further hurting on AC especially during the off-season. Thus, there is no shot that the South Jersey politicians would ever vote for it.

i definitely think a meadowlands casino would kill ac. i don't even think they should do one for the giants game... just set up tons of shuttle and try to grow some interest and talk about ac. i live in hoboken, about 15 miles from the meadowlands and i hope it doesn't happen. i would much rather ac get cleaned up and become an attractive destination again.

i guess it'd be a win-win with me (in my mind). either ac stays the only spot in nj and we centralize a bunch of players and casinos to play against, or i get a poker room real close to home. but i hope ac picks up. no reason it shouldn't be the vegas of the east coast. it's closer to the major populations and has a beach! it's a shame it's in the state it's in.

pokerstars buying atlantic club would be awesome!

why would that be awesome? place is a dump and not like ac needs another poker room.

because place is a dump, lol... and i'm sure they'd make it nicer and bring in more players... heck they'd probably start holding their big tournies there and sending online players as prizes. but even if it just took the players from tropicana... at least we'd be elevated to a nicer room.

Krayzie777, if you want a low buy-in with a decent field, try the Showboat.

does anyone from the NYC area grind AC full-time?

I'm thinking of moving to the Brooklyn area, and was wondering if it would be feasible to commute to AC (by bus) 4-5 times per week.

Is this totally unreasonable?

Thanks guys. If you'd rather PM than post here, that's cool, too.

fwiw, I'll be living with my girlfriend, so living in the AC area is out of the question

First of all, grinding any sort of livable wage isn't nearly as easy as some think. It's is *VERY HARD*. Doable, but very hard. Be warned.

Second - from Brooklyn, wny not head up to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun? Also, any of the Pennsylvania casinos in the NE area might be closer to you. Parx has a great room, and is just north of Philly, just off of I-95 from where you are.

Third, as GTL suggests - go once a week and get cheap or comped rooms. Maybe take the girlfriend - she'll probably love the spa's there! Maybe the clubs and other entertainments as well. Just a thought.

AC is ~30 mins closer from most of Brooklyn than Foxwoods/Mohegan (usually its northern Queens people and Bronx, etc that go to CT over AC). The trip down to AC usually takes about two and a half hours, accounting for mild traffic here and there. The PA rooms are all marginally closer, like ~20 mins from Brooklyn, at which point imo its better to just go the extra bit and be in AC than a lone casino in the middle of nowhere. the commute times for each get longer on the bus, though i would imagine a Parx bus wouldnt be as annoying as an AC bus, which makes multiple stops in AC and in Brooklyn and usually ends up taking closer to 3.5 than 2.5 hours when alls said and done. (leaving AC at 4am and getting home 7:30am isnt that fun, just needed to do it the once )

go live in Philly, or Brigantine or somethin imo.

o yea, the buses are uncomfortable as ****

The question was by bus. Brooklyn is closer to AC than to the CT casinos. Driving from my house it's maybe 30-45 minutes difference; by bus the trip from Port Authority is two hours longer, even before you add the subway from Brooklyn to the bus terminal.

Parx (Chinatown bus only?) or Sands are probably marginally closer, but if you get there and the games suck there's no casino next door with better selection.

not just the suck factor, oftentimes sands, etc have crazy long waiting lists for 1/2 and 2/5 (though i hear they might have expanded their room or something recently, not sure.) and if you take a bus there youre pretty much trapped until its time for the return trip.

Sands poker room currently has 30 tables and is expanding to 36 soon. Long lines only occur at night on Saturdays or other holiday days. Use Bravo app to get a read on all games and wait times in the area.

yea I'd rather travel the extra mile for a signficantly better poker room (Borgata). Thansk for all the tips guys. It sounds like it will be tough to play full time from the NYC area, unless I intend to sleep in AC a few nights per week.

I'm pretty sure the girlfriend wouldn't be to fond of that idea, but who knows...

Thanks again.

Are the bus you talking about those chinatown buses (from 8ave brooklyn)? I would like to know more info about them. Do you have any resources or basic info like time/ticket booth locaiton/phone#?

Thanks.
