quick Bio: steady winning player, decent amount of mix experience.

I'm.. fine at stud, and pretty strong at Razz (maybe one of my better games, actually), but find I'm always pretty surprised by the winning holdings and later street betting patterns in stud8.

for example, I've noticed a lot of squeeze plays on later streets with what I would have considered pretty middling stud hands playing for live and a lot of building bigger pots than I'd expect with a low draw (I always thought if you're not playing to scoop you shouldn't be pumping it too hard)

this makes me think I'm doing something wrong in my Stud8 and was wondering if there was a compendium of good reading (ideally here, maybe elsewhere online, ideally not a book, maybe a video, but w/e) that would help rebuild my foundations.

hard to think of any online resources to recommend. beyond that, stud 8 is a complex game that somehow surprises me with new, close spots the more i play it. so chances are any in-depth literature will be coming from a book.

hahaha will do, although I don't know that they'd count as that tough for anyone else. I'll make a point to record a few.

I am a successful stud/8 tournament player on WPN with multiple wins over the last few years in the $16.50 range and a recent win in the weekly $55 high stakes; I find this book incredibly useful in the later stages of the tournaments as well as against 'thinking' players earlier in the tournament, however I was wondering if anyone has any suggested reading for low stakes games? Most players are not folding ANY 3 lows on 4th and playing every pair regardless in these small stakes games and I am having a tough time adjusting. I tend to play aggressive and semi-bluff based on the strength of board, but I think I am playing too aggressive in spots where the players will probably not fold.

Example, if I have a 7-4 draw on 4th, a probable pair of kings bets on my right,do I raise an 8-5 behind me, even if it is unlikely he will fold a hand as weak as a pair of 5s or any low draw? I would raise for sure with an Ace as part of the draw, but what other factors should be considered in a low stakes game.

is there any hendon mob recorded stud hi/low mtts outside of the wsop? they did have a horse mtt here in aussie at the aussie millions and on cup day last year. Also one low stakes played monthly but i wont be playing that.

Books are good as a start and I would recommend reading those that have been suggested in the thread but it’s important to understand that they have limitations in that they may be slighted outdated. By that I mean they don’t really take ranges into account nor reflect equities from tools such as propokertools or troutulator so you may incorrectly fold in some spots among other mistakes.

My first Hendon recorded cash was Stud 8. Of course, that was in 1999 (!)

Thinking of this, I would love for some OGs to comment about how Stud 8 has changed over the years if at all.

In 99' was Stud 8 free money like NL would have been? When did it become what it is now?

I still think games like Stud 8 have such huge amount of bad players in them today. People really hate to fold on 3rd street sometimes.

I never got to play Stud 8 in a live casino in those days. It was only in my home game. The sum total of my knowledge was from the HG and Ray Zee's book.

My tournament cash was in a field with some very big NL players, who frankly did not know what they were doing in Stud 8. They played medium pairs way too much vs much stronger hands. They played too many 'razz' hands. Their starting ranges were so weak, it was easy for them to be drawing at half, or being free rolled.

There was one 'name' player who knew what he was doing. Miami John Cernuto was in the field, and he duly won.

There used to be some stud 8 content on Deuces Cracked. I believe one of the series was called "From a Donk to a Stud" by JoeTall, but I can't recall if it was stud hi or stud 8.

Does anyone have access to any of these old videos? It doesn't appear the new DuecesCracked site has any of these old videos.

Also, does anyone know if any of the newer training sites have any stud content?
