Hi there, new member to the forums. I play a lot of Stud 8 on Pokerstars and if you do too, you'd probably will have played against me (Qiball311). The level of play across all the limits up to and sometimes including $10/$20 is astonishingly bad. I see almost every player making obvious mistakes and EV- plays all the time. The crazier thing is, these same players reload and reload and seem to have a infinite amount of money. I myself started with $77 and have managed to grind up $2K profit within two months basically playing just stud 8. I actually don't recognize a single winning player. The traffic at stud 8 isn't massive so you see a lot of the same players all the time but THEY ARE SO BAD??? I want some regulars of stud discussing about this. Thanks!

Beatable is a understatement. Maybe I am just running good but I usually come out of 2/4 a decent profit despite all the frustrating bricks in really big pots when the fish start jamming with their garbage. As for regs, I don't think any of them are long term winnings. Some really horrible players include CatPat, MaxHire and most of the Chinese players. Like I said, if you have a decent understanding of Stud, it is easily one of the most beatable games on PS. I feel that strongly about it.

nah, its pretty standard, imo.
up to 1/2 its easy and 2-4 - 3/6 has lots of regs.
you might mistakenly confound a deceptive play between regs as "bad play",
but at least at 3/6 everyone is solid on 3rd and 4th and if it looks different
they migth just try to fool you and other players with a little advertising.
i agree that 1/2 at weekends is a walk in the park,
but at higher stakes it aint easier than it is in other variants.

Mmm If I'm honest I don't think any of them are advanced enough to understand the concept of advertising. I really just genuinely believe they are just plain bad players. Although you probably been on PS longer than I have, I'll take your advice with a pinch of salt. If I may ask, what's your username and who are the good regs in your opinion?

i play 8-game since a year and am not familar with the names at stud8 anymore.
i just always felt the difference between up to 1/2 and 2/4 and higher.

did they just make bad plays against each other in ante-steal situations
or did they play plain wrong against you hu or in 3way pots?

Just plain bad man. Too loose, too many split high pairs, chases lows when the other guy is already showing a better low, things like that. I don't know why there aren't more guys like me grinding away at the stud 8 games. I don't play much HUs or short handed, my full strength is at FR.

You do realize that a ton of the good regulars that might have played this games no longer can? I know that i used to play these all the way up to 10/20 all the time and it was like printing money sometimes. The good players have left from what i can see. I have seen people play on merge at the 15/30 games as well and just playing horribly.

That may be a big part of it. I only started to play since the beginning of the year so obviously I don't know the level of play before BF. I know lots of Americans love stud and if and when poker is finally legalized over there, there will be a 2nd poker boom. It will not only be great for the game of stud but all of poker too. Oh and I noticed you been a member since 2008 August and only 5 posts?

I agree that 1/2 on Stars is beatable, people do all kinds of bad plays, myself included :/

IMO FaraChef, Myskoxe and SMAN are decent regs.

basically stud8 has a very small player pool in mid and high stakes...its always the same screennames of the regs...some chinese...it kind of alerts me when there are two or more chinese in the game cause they might be colluding as they do in stud...i think i read somewhere its a big problem in stud..
anyway there is not enough traffic in stud8 except for weekends or maybe only a few hours per day

I'm playing stud8 every day up to 10/20 and there are games at least 10-16 hours every day! Last week we had five 10/20 tables going - on a wednesday

I don't know if your being serious but basically all the players you mentioned apart from Dimsum and maybe black baran, are all horrible horrible players. Maybe you are seeing something I'm not? But I'll tell you what I see, tons upon tons of leaks on their plays. I think I'll post some hands histories next time and type out my thought process.

Oh and FWIW just killed at the Stud 8 tables tonight, made $273 at 2/4 in 475 hands. A combination or running hot and bad players making tilted raises.

Haha, I have no doubt if and when the US players come back, the Stud games will be filled with action once again. That said, still plenty of easy money to be made already but having more traffic is always nice. Hope you guys do get your online poker back, I feel for you.

Had to drop down in stakes with occasional pops at 2/4 now. Ran crazily bad with like 50 BB dropped in 150 hands or so. My showdown win percentage was around average so it was all the silly draws bricking that cost me money. That and all the chops the fish got with Q-A-2 and the like. Can't always run like god eh?

Its very easy to get action going on PS. just start your own tables...

I'm not a big fan of short handed or HUs on Stud though. The rake is crazily bad. Anyway this thread is done. I'm gonna start a new one about a challenge I got planned about turning $100 into $1k then maybe that into $10k playing just stud by the end of the year. I'm sure it can be done The games are soft enough and I'm confident in my own ability to achieve it. Be on a look out soon!
