Stud 8 micro , too aggressive 4th street ? Stud 8 micro , too aggressive 4th street ?

Hi

Haven't played poker for a while and cant remember how to play stud 8 too well. Some learning to do. Opponent had made couple of questionable plays but wasn't out of line most of the times. Normally I am playing bit more cautiously 3rd and 4th and more aggressively later streets when possible.

Is it standard to reraise the 3rd here ?

However the 4th street + 5th are ones I am mainly interested, should I just call when he raises after me betting out on 4th and c/c 5th? Didn't give him enough credit for automatically having trips but since he raises my bet again would the call be correct action ?

hmm. Did run some numbers and my equity was higher than expected still on 5th against connected cards, some suited ones and trips but would like to know where and how I can improve my game.

on 3rd once he re-raises vs your ace open, especially since he was the bring in, he's kinda telling you his range is strong. your position isn't a super steal position and as such, given you have less steals, his relative raising range is stronger. so i like calling here quite often, HU, since with a hand like this we have a ton of options later on to raise once the boards play out a bit. i'm into protecting my range in a spot like this.

so when you lead 4th in spite of that and he raises, now you basically need to stop and really think about what range is capable of this line, with a 9d turn card. at this point i'd narrow his range to 3 low diamonds / AA / rolled up. so i'd call instead of jamming.

then because of that logic i definitely would not be leading 5th. he's telling you he's at the top of his range and you've seen only one other diamond and zero sixes.

aces and aces up are good hands. but it's ok to slow down.

Yeah this is exactly right. Your opponent's raise on 4 is awful, by the way. Don't telegraph your hand like that.

Thanks for your comments. Helps me big time. Felt that I should had slowed down way earlier and me betting out on 5th makes no sense. Like said normally don't play this way and found myself a few times missing opportunities to build pot during earlier streets and tried different approach. Way to overcompensate . . However will take some time to find right balance.
