I think you can study as much as you want but you really need to find a live game to put that theory into practice. I think especially with stud, you need to read up on situations and then try them out at the table. There are so many more variables in stud compared to hold'em (dead cards, variable position on the streets) that it is hard to understand the concepts without practicing them. In holdem you can and usually should jam with aces very quick, in stud there are times where you should fold rolled up trips on fourth (not me though, I'll be there for the ride until 7th).
