Playing a home game tonight and the guys are open to some stud, but will never play it limit. Found some PL stud rules here:

But it says to deal the river face up. To me this spoils the game a little, will it really ruin the game if we deal the river face down?

I've played PL stud games in home games with 7th street down and it's worked well. Big action game.

The river-up format was promoted by Mr. David Zanetti, who sometimes appears in this forum. He felt strongly about using it for big-bet stud games. I've played it both ways, and it can work both ways.

As far as pot limit stud games, I like the 6-card variety, dealt (xx)1-1-1-1. It has four betting rounds and an up river card. The reduced betting rounds will help prevent the fish from getting murdered as they learn -- but they may still have a tough time of it.
