Paying off with two pair

Full game, .40-.80, .10 ante, .20 bring in
(suits not important for this hand)
No read on main opponent in hand -- new opponent

3rd:
BI (xx) 4/opens/calls
P1 7 folds
P2 10 folds
Hero (Q2)Q raises
P 3 9 folds
V. (xx)8 calls
P 4 K folds
P 5 J calls

4th
BI (xx) 49 calls
Hero (Q2)Q7bets
V. (xx)87 calls
P 5 J3 calls

5th (pot = $3.80)
BI (xx) 49T folds
Hero (Q2)Q7Jbets
V. (xx)875 calls
P 5 J34 folds

6th (pot = $5.25)
Hero (Q2)Q7J2checks
V. (xx)8754 bets

How would others play 6th and 7th here -- assuming no improvement

Here are my thoughts:

So when the villain picks up 4 to a straight on board and bets, the pot is about $6 and I will have to call .80 more here. But if I call here, I'm likely calling river as well, so let's say it's $6.80 : $1.60 on a call (counting his last bet) or about 4:1. His sixes are all live, as are my deuces and queens. I *think* he has the straight and if he flipped it, I'd fold. In no limit, he might bet big so I could fold and I'd also be able to call 6th hoping to hit a full house and get a big raise in. But here both his bets and mine are limited, so my hand reading skills aren't as valuable, since I'm priced in to call when behind and can't exploit when I'm ahead.

Re: Paying off with two pair

i think i c/c 6th and river.

opponent should have a stronger average hand than you with these boards, so default actions should be you doing a lot of checking here with intentions to call or raise.

and by playing this way you're under-repped so you have to call down.

i'm not a stud expert by any means though.

Re: Paying off with two pair

Did you at least consider checking 4th for an attempted kr? I'm not saying I wouldn't have bet if J3 caught suited and the rest were rainbow but "suits don't matter" could be a crutch. you have your worst kicker on third and caught dead and completely unconnected on 4th. Could you have caught a worse 4th street?

As played, I think you have a hard spot on 6th and 7th given your bet on 4th and 5th. I think you're kinda stuck showing down having made queens up on 6th but your play on 4th and 5th signals that you have precisely queens and seventh doesn't get bet often enough to make queens up worth it. His worse two pair just doesn't get value often enough.

Re: Paying off with two pair

With four players in on 4th, and these boards, a c/r is likely only to bloat the pot and not k/o folks in this game. I want the value from hands I'm likely ahead of here (all). Then on 5th some may fold, leaving dead money in pot, or keep stubbornly calling with less chances to catch up (and I can improve as well). Against certain players I can find a river fold, but many of the more draw happy regs will bet when they miss/have low two pair, so calling is prob +EV even though I lose most times. The real issue for me in this game is that unlike hold'em it's easier for folks to catch up, and harder to punish them for chasing (limit v. nl). But on the other hand, when I catch I sometimes win massive pots -- got a c/r in on a four opponent field on 5th the other day to build a massive pot with a big str8 that held up. Only takes a few of those to cover the losses (and I can steal/suck out in the right conditions too).

Re: Paying off with two pair

not good enough at stud to say if 4th is a x/r but seems kinda fancy. Although I would bet if checked to with split jacks here so maybe it's good.

6th and 7th I think you just need to check/call down. He can just have split 8s a lot that are turning into a bluff. Or even betting worse 2 pair for value.
