Not sure if many have been following on FB but in 2001, my senior year in HS, my dad bought a '69 camaro z28. And by that i mean pretty much a rusted down, metal shell of the car. (so pissed i can't find any pics right now) Basically just the stripped down body of the car, no engine, trans, wires, etc. Literally just the shell. Well his plan was to rebuild and get it as close to 'numbers matching' as possible. It's been 11 years but it's finally coming into fruition. He built the engine and has it in place, started it for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I was over yesterday and took a vid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUdNfrJnm8M&feature=plcp how do you embed here?

Awesome thing about the engine is that he was able to find an original '69 302 block which is pretty rare nowadays. It's the exact engine that came out of this car if you were to buy it in 1969. Here are some pics i took; gonna try hard to track down some pics of when he first got it.

Getting Phil to pose with one or both would be pretty awesome of course. Like have them parked together at an angle with Phil posing with crossed arms, sunglasses and a hat in front. Don't make me fire up photoshop.

Someone with a tuba (looks for andy) needs to do this somewhere where I'm about to be running so I can experience this. I would also accept cello or larger.

My buddy who works for Harley Davidson has been restoring a 1969 Buick GS with a 455. Every time I go by I see the progress. Amazing

Awesome. Nothing like the sound of a big block. The '69 Z28s came with the race inspired 302 small block while the SS had the 396/427/454 so it won't have the grunt of those cars but Z28s are much more rare and valuable. Lot of ppl make "clones" where its just a regular camaro and they'll put the z28/SS badging...but the VIN number on this car is original z28; original color. It'll be exactly the car that left the showroom floor.

Can't wait to ride in it.

Nah, just too dumb to click the link. Didn't recognize the carb though.

Hah wish I could have embedded. Good catch; my Dad did mention that wasn't the stock Carb. I think he's getting it replaced with the right one soon

So much depends on what the car will be used for; trailered show car? drag car? street racer? driver? I've owned a lot of cars, but they were all used going places. The carb on there now looks really big--like way bigger than 1200 cfm. If that's what you need, go for it.

This is a '69, so I suspect that an OEM would be really fantastic. After the movement to injection was unstoppable, some of the carbs they were making were just as good, and didn't have the high-end limits of the fuelies.

I vote we drive this bear to Vegas for the Series...

Its going to be a show car and he wants it as close to "numbers matching" as possible which is why I'm sure the correct one will be put on. Like I said he wants it to be just as he left the showroom floor.

As for driving it to Vegas..idk if I could survive the desert heat in a car without A/C

BBV is not my thing.

Just spoke to him; it's actually not the identical carb as far as model #, but it's the right size (780cfm) that came on those cars at the time.
10-17-2012 , 03:57 PM
as for my name; everyone i've ever met has called me camzzz...while it was always "cam zee" in my head...

That's awesome that it's original z28; original color.

My buddy spent far more than the original price of the car to go to a place called Studer Auto Body and Paint to put an original stock in color back on the Buick after stripping it down. It had been repainted twice. My wife thought he was crazy.

Wat? / does that mean I'm almost as old as you then?

I thought that was less awkward than putting "Chips' Mom" but am open to hearing about Parents' Nicknames for Advanced Players...
